Are you ready for the 2024 sprint? Because after Monday, there’s no looking back!
Labor Day has — for as long as I can remember — functioned as an unofficial/official kickoff of the campaign season as voters start (emphasis on start) to actually pay attention to the candidates who have been running for months now.
As we get to this starting line, it’s worth taking stock of where we are. We have two clear frontrunners — Donald Trump and Joe Biden — for their respective party nominations.
And both men are deeply flawed as they approach the general election. Biden is seen as too old (he’s 80) to be president for four more years. Trump’s many indictments (four and counting) have people convinced he is corrupt or at least willing to push the boundaries of acceptable conduct.
Polling suggests the general election will be close. And political handicappers suggest the playing field on which the race will play out will be tiny.
So, what questions do you have about the race to come? Do you think the Republican primary is already effectively over? Or do you see a path for a candidate not named “Donald Trump”? And how does the general election play out? What’s your wildcard in all of this?
Ask your questions in the comments section below. I will try to answer as many of them as I can on Friday morning.
And, a reminder: Anyone in our community can ask a question but only PAID subscribers get to see the full mailbag transcript on Fridays.
If you have been on the fence about subscribing, please consider doing it. Investing in me and my journalism means a ton. And it allows me the freedom to write about politics (and life) without any worries about what comes next.
Plus, I will continue to put more of my content behind a paywall and offer more incentives for subscribers as the year goes on.
Thanks in advance for considering it.
The general election in 2024 is more likely than not to be between old but decent Joe Biden and old and dishonest, Corrupt and criminally minded Donald Trump. And Old but decent Joe Biden is going to win. Most American people voted Trump out of office in 2020 and they will vote against him again in 2024.
Democrats believe that third party candidates will hand the election to Trump. Should Democrats be worried about the Greens with Cornel West and/or the No Labels group of, among others, Joe Lieberman and Larry Hogan?
