The general election in 2024 is more likely than not to be between old but decent Joe Biden and old and dishonest, Corrupt and criminally minded Donald Trump. And Old but decent Joe Biden is going to win. Most American people voted Trump out of office in 2020 and they will vote against him again in 2024.

I agree!!

Democrats believe that third party candidates will hand the election to Trump. Should Democrats be worried about the Greens with Cornel West and/or the No Labels group of, among others, Joe Lieberman and Larry Hogan?

I just heard about several Secretaries of State considering using the 14th Amendment to keep Donald Trump off state primary ballots. They said it was based on the Tribe/Luttig Op-ed and a lot of both Democrats and Republicans who have weighed in. The reporter said anyone who held office and was involved (not led) in an insurrection could be blocked from running again. Someone else said it would depend on if he is convicted of the insurrection charges. I do not want him in office again, but I really do not know how I feel about this one yet. I know this is new - what are your thoughts on this?

It’s been more than 8 years since Trump announced he was running for president. And I agree with you that he won’t be done until he’s no longer with us. The thing that is so deflating as a Democrat is I don’t feel like there are really any goals for the GOP base other than more conspiracy theories, more gaslighting, and more whining about how the system is rigged against them. There will ALWAYS be more fuel for the fire. And it just feels like, as I believe Alfred said in Batman, some just want to see the world burn. And how do you fight that?

Hi Chris! Something I’ve been wondering for a while now ... all these people that defend Mr. Trump, which is it... do they think he didn’t actually do the things he’s being indicted for, or do they think he did them but none of it was illegal, therefore acceptable? Thoughts?

If the Republicans do impeach President Biden (and as meritless as it would be, I think that they may very well do so), what effect would THAT have on each party’s chances and campaigns in November of 2024?

My fear is that Democrats, thinking that Biden is too old, will do like they did to Hillary and stay home or vote some third party loser. Result: Trump wins, an existential catastrophe to America. How do we avoid that, given that Democrats have shown less than long-range thinking?

My question is in two parts: Who do you think would be Trump’s wisest choice for running mate? And who do you think he’ll *actually* choose?

I've just read that the Georgia state trial of Trump & collaborators will be televised. This is likely to be the legal crime show of the century (allowing that it is early years yet). I can't help but feel that a similar openness should be applied to the Federal trials. How likely do you think this might be, given the Georgia announcement?

Some Republicans like Sarah Palin are openly calling for a Civil War, especially if Trump is convicted of any crimes. And you know if Trump loses another election, he will again claim that it was rigged....which could lead to more violence. Do you think we'll have thousands of MAGATs storming the Capitol the next time?

How can Democrats appeal more to Rural voters? How can we get more people willing to work across the aisle?

Who determines if one (DJT) is ineligible to run for President based on Section 3 of the 14th Amendment? Is it individual states keeping them off the ballot?

I know I asked a question, but with the Blake Masters news, I'd love to get your take on the craziness of the Arizona Senate race. Do you think the NRSC is banging its head against the wall at either Masters or Lake running?

This sounds weird: "both men are deeply flawed as they approach the general election. Biden is seen as too old (he’s 80) to be president for four more years. Trump’s many indictments (four and counting) have people convinced he is corrupt or at least willing to push the boundaries of acceptable conduct."

I would agree that age may be a concern, but a flaw? One is a simple fact that raises concerns about being up to the job or the capability of the person who would take over if you passed, (sorry VP Harris). The other is a series of purposeful actions born out of desperation and an attack on the basis of our democracy.

Both are worth writing about and reporting on sure, but they aren't the same thing.

Chris - thanks to an article by Laurence H. Tribe and J. Michael Luttig in The Atlantic, and the paper, The Sweep and Force of Section Three, published by William Baude & Michael Stokes Paulsen, there is a lot of talk suddenly about whether Donald Trump is ineligible to be a candidate for any public office based upon Section Three of the Fourteenth Amendment of the US Constitution.

1. What is your reaction to this development, and at this point in time, do you sense any States will actually try to disqualify DJT from a ballot?

2. in the event a State or States actually do try to disqualify DJT, it is expected these decisions would be litigated (on an expedited basis) and ultimately be decided by the Supreme Court. One thing I have not seen getting any attention, however, was still interested in getting your thoughts on, is this - if this issue does get to the Supreme Court, will any of the Justices need to consider recusing themselves?

FIRST, I am first thinking of Associate Justice Clarence Thomas, whose spouse was actively engaged in trying to help DJT's criminal conspiracy, communicating with both Mark Meadows indicted in the GA RICO case) directly, as well as some of the AZ officials (some of whom are possible unindicted co-conspirators) if not also communicating with officials in others states (PA?), and possibly communicating with other witnesses for the GA RICO case and Jack Smith's Federal indictment of DJT in Washington. I suppose it is possible Ginni Thomas could also be a potential witness in both trials as well.

SECOND, should any Justice who was nominated to the bench by the former President, in this case, Associate Justice Amy Coney Barrett, Associate Justice Neil M. Gorsuch, and Associate Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh, be allowed to then weigh in as to whether DJT should be allowed to be a candidate again, especially in light of the indictments, etc.?

FINALLY, if the above three justices would have to recuse, I am expect DJT would then claim any justice nominated by the person DJT claims is persecuting him, Associate Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, would also be required to recuse herself.

Thanks
