What are your thoughts on the Alabama Republicans simply ignoring the US Supreme Court's order to redraw their redistricting plan? Does this mean that Blue states can ignore decisions from the right-wing court that they don't like, too?
You wrote about your disappointment with President Biden not acknowledging Hunter daughter from an affair. I read an article recently specifically expressing that the child's mother is specifically preventing contact because of ongoing negotiations between the mother and Hunter. If the article was accurate, potus has a legitimate reason for staying silent.
We can all see that American politics are in a bad, bad place, with important civic institutions and conventions being cast aside frequently. (Gracious concessions by election losers, peaceful transitions of power, respect for the judiciary and the rule of law, certain principles being more important than partisanship.)
As a person for whom the political process has been both a lifelong hobby and a point of personal and national pride, the last several years have totally sucked.
So, help me out: What are a few (let's say 3 or 4) reasons for *optimism* in the civic future of America in the next 10 years?
I am a little perplexed about all this " Did Trump believe his own lies?" discussion. I might believe that i am entiltled to more money, or that someone ripped me off, but robbing a bank is not legal, despite my beliefs. I might believe that Santa Claus is a fake entity and pure commercial propaganda, but that does not give me the right to go out and harm Santas (maybe not a great example).
Beliefs don't get you indicted, behaviors do?? What am i missing? Thank you.
Politico had an interesting article about college towns hurting the GOP (https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2023/07/21/gop-college-towns-00106974) and the party continues to push policies that are unpopular with both Gen Z and Millennials such as stricter abortion plans, no action on climate change and refusal to address gun laws. I know the GOP will never fully disappear, but could they be make themselves too unpopular to win major elections unless they address these issues?
Shoehi Ohteni ,in my opinion, is the most unique baseball player in my lifetime (I'm 64). As an Angels fan I'd love for him to stay with them, yet I doubt he will.. What is your opinion of him? Other than Babe Ruth, and in fact only in early part of Ruth's career , has anyone done what he is doing?
I’m a dyed-in-the-wool 75 year old out gay male. I’ve voted in every election since I turned 21. And I’ve consistently voted for the Democratic candidate. I’ve been listening to a lot of the Republican interviews lately -- Scott, Hayley, Christie, DeSantis, and tonight I heard an interview with Governor Burgum. I refuse to listen to Donald Trump speak, so he’s off the table as far as I’m concerned. Why is DeSantis such a nasty, mean, rude jerk? He’s as insulting and mean as Trump. I heard Christie being interviewed by Andrea Mitchell today. He seems like a decent sort of Bush-type. He has a common sense of decency to him. Same with most of the others. DeSantis is just totally unappealing, brash, and impossible to listen to. Any idea what makes him tick like an annoying cuckoo clock?

I hope there would be mass protests if a president tried to stay in power or tried to abuse their authority in any way. I wonder: What would you think about the constitution and independent media? Would they be able to resist any efforts?
