What is it going to take for folks to buy in to a two State solution? How can there ever be peace in the Middle East until the Palestinian issue is resolved to the acceptance of all affected parties? From a supporter of Israel.

Repubs have talked about extending a sort of grace period for Mike Johnson on this go around of government shutdown talks, but that is likely a short leash. Will the Gaetz/MAGA crowd relent on MTV bc they've finally got a bona fide legit far right guy installed?

Also, seeing Nancy Mace on Bill Maher squirm when asked about evidence of Trump's criminality compared to Biden's was one of the first times(at least that I've seen) where major Repubs were put on the spot like this. Why don't more members of the media create this awkward juxtaposition to highlight the hypocrisy?

In an alternate universe where Mitch McConnell voted to impeach Donald Trump for J6, where do you think we'd be now? My guess: 1.McConnell voting for impeachment would have brought enough Republicans with him to get the impeachment. 2. With the threat of Trump neutralized, Biden would have resigned after the 2022 midterms due to low approval numbers and to give Harris the opportunity to run as an incumbent 3. Trump would have already been tried and convicted by now.

Arab Americans are threatening to not support Biden. Do they think potentially tipping the election to Trump will leave them and their interests better off?

Have you noticed the peculiarity of the RINO vs. puppet dichotomy in Trump speak? If you are a Democrat in government and follow in the path of the party's leader, per Trump, you are a "puppet." By that thinking, there should be some credit given to a politician - any politician - who veers from the lockstep of leadership. Not so in Trump land! ANY deviation from what Trump wants on the right begets being called a RINO, because he wants to be a puppet master. And, for what it's worth, why can't we have DINOs? A rhinoceros and dinosaur seem more apt than an elephant and donkey these days anyway.

What do you think each of Trump’s kids will say on the stand under oath ?!

What are your thoughts on Mike Johnson being able to avoid a government shutdown in a couple of weeks? I saw some articles about how he may not have the legislative experience to navigate this mess. Does he work with McConnell (a less Trumpian GOP'er) to get something that might actually pass in the Senate or hold firm to what his House Republicans & Trump want and risk leading the House into a shutdown?

How do you think the Trump trial in Colorado will turn out? Do you think he will be disqualified from the ballot, and do you think that could be a bad thing (as Chris Christie has suggested) since Trump is likely to lose the state anyway?

Chris-

What is your opinion on those who would like to get rid of the electoral college? I feel that candidates would never campaign in small states anymore and would only go to big cities. But I could be wrong

Isnt "needing Democratic help" to pass bills in the House the way Congress is suppose to work? Why do the republicans refuse to do this? It goes against what congressmen were voted to go do by their comstitutants! I know the republicsns want to blow up the way of things but like removing the speaker they have not put forth a path to something better(?) something different (?). I was taught if you didnt have a solution to a problem then keep your comments to yourself.

A few months ago there was a controversy going around regarding where Tommy Tuberville lives. It was reported that he actually lives in Florida and not in Alabama. According to the report, this would disqualify him from representing Alabama in the Senate. Then the story disappeared. Do you know what the scoop is? Thanks!

Today you wrote in the "a moment I can't stop thinking about" where "In the House there will be enormous pressure on every Republican member not to certify [the vote]."

Q: If there is an electoral college victory for Biden in Nov 2024 and every house Republican (and therefore a house majority) refuses to certify the vote, what happens then? Is this a constitutional crisis? does the supreme court get involved?

I just read your article on the moment you can't forget, and Republican election denialism. You ended it by mentioning that a democracy can't flourish when one of the two parties refuses to accept the results of an election (I may be paraphrasing). I'm not trying to be sensationalist here, but do you genuinely think the United States can be said to have a functioning democracy?

The main-streaming of election denialism is obviously the latest, but you also have a political party that OPENLY says they are going to gerrymander districts solely to deny the opposition any representation. The same party also OPENLY blocks the opposition party from appointing ANY judiciary members solely for partisan purposes. The same party's Senate leader just OPENLY said that massive amounts of cash must still be able to flow directly from companies to political campaigns. And sure, that last one (along with the open corruption of the lobbying industry) is bipartisan.

All that to say...if this was the state of affairs in Australia, wouldn't commentators label it as no longer democratic? If it was the state of affairs in South Africa or Chile, wouldn't commentators go even further and label it a failed democracy? I'm terrified of the answer, but how is the US not like that, at this point?
