I can't decide if "Prebuttal" is going to be the name for my new Bluegrass band or the name of our first live album.

Note: I do not as yet know how to play a musical instrument, just planning ahead...

"Prebuttal" is already taken. It is the name of that weird exercise MTG was doing.

Hasn’t Trump told her that the human body is like a battery and only has so much energy.

CrossFit-ter here. Kipping is a progression (primary) movement for more complex gymnastics movements which are also part of the CrossFit core (see bar muscle ups and ring muscle ups). Plenty of scientific evidence that CrossFit is a great methodology for keeping fit and reducing a whole host of common medical issues such as high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. I hate MTG, but CrossFit is not a negative for her in my opinion.

I knew that term was familiar via gymnastics, a popular sport at my high school. Thx

What MTG is doing here is actually a variation of kipping pull-ups, called butterfly pull-ups. The actual motion is different than the traditional kip, and it takes a considerable amount of coordination to do this correctly (as she is). Many CrossFit athletes do these butterfly pull-ups in competitions.

There are benefits to doing strict pull-ups and there are benefits to doing kipping pull-ups. From physics, we know that power = force * distance / time. Doing these butterfly pull-ups (if you can do them), you can get many more pull-ups done in much less time than you could doing strict pull-ups. So, your average power is much higher than when you do strict pull-ups. You are also utilizing your whole body for the movement (core, hamstrings, shoulders, back, arms, etc.). So, your whole body is getting a workout. Finally, in almost every sport, you would never use one muscle group in isolation without using your other muscle groups. You use your whole body - all your muscles - in a coordinated effort to throw, catch, hit, push, pull, wrestle, swim, climb, jump, etc. CrossFit is all about core strength and conditioning. By kipping, you are not just strengthening your whole body, you are making neurological connections and learning how to use your muscles in coordination with agility to develop your total explosive power capacity.

By all moral and ethical means, criticize MTG for her politics and for her manners (or lack thereof). But you can't really fault her for doing butterfly pull-ups. Butterfly pull-ups are badass! (I do traditional kipping pull-ups, but I have not been able to figure out the coordination to do butterfly pull-ups).

So just to be Clear...I am a fan of both Strict Pull-ups and Kipping Pullups(Which is how gymnast get onto the rings, uneven bar and men's Bar...What Greene is doing is a Butterfly Pullup 🦋 or chest to bar...Neither of these do I recommend or endorse(as a certified Personal Trainer) also I don't endorse MTG in any form or fashion.

Excellent observation.

It does look like it would be seriously good for your core. It also does indeed look ridiculous.

Oops, 100 reps every time, sorry for the phrasing that was not clear. 3 times usually a week.

One inescapable fact is that the lack of exercise affects health outcomes. I applaud her and in this one regard, only this, she has “it” right insofar as the discipline of training. I’m 73.5 years old and have been lifting weights since 1989. As for pull-ups, many times a week usually 100 spread over 8-9 sets, but strict.

Fluid motion is a large part a a safe workout. That is why I prefer a run and walk rather than a jog. She does the jerk. I think she is emulating the people who use a bar to ascend a pegged rail. Pull up quickly and catch the next peg with a bar in your hands. Still, I agree with you in that it is better than no daily workout. Does taking the long way through the house to get to the fridge to get an ice cream bar count as a workout? Hey, it got up to 86 degrees here, I had no choice. I am moving to Italy and I look forwards to a short walk to the beach. 1/8 of a mile away, but a 500 ft difference in altitude. I bet that walk will add ten years to my life.
