“I’m not performative” reminds me of “I’m not racist”

“I had a black roommate in college”

I had a Black roommate as a civilian hire by the New York State Maritime Academy on the Summer 1970 Cadet Training Cruise to Rotterdam, NL and Cardiff, Wales. [I was the Captain's Boy/Orderly (don't go there), I served him his meals and cleaned his cabin)

As a late teen NYC suburbanite, I was hoping for learning about the wonders of Black culture. My college man a couple of years older was cool and seemingly hip (the Black and Hispanic guys, like Bobby Sanchez, Galley Supervisor were more instructive).

Anyway, we get to Holland and the dude promises me he knows how to score pot...no luck. He didn't know that the "Dutchers" were legally into hashish, of which I was familiar from suburban Long Island, just across the border from NYC in Nassau County.

Late teen learning of race relations and imbibement of trendy chemical amusements.

I see Blacks, Hispanics, and Asians in the grocery store line...I know their pain (of having to wait for a price check in aisle three).

I’m a little disappointed. I was hoping she was the newest Avenger: Flip Flop Woman.

A year ago she was tagged as being a "normal" ReTrumplican.

I think that was on a flip.

Mace says she doesn't answer to anybody. What about Trump? If I recall, she was once critical of Trump, but then she bent over backwards to appease him when she realized that it would benefit her politically. Who cares about doing the right thing?

Expand full comment

I don't think she caters for Trump either. Trump could not save McCarthy nor was he (Trump) able to get his candidate (Jim Jordan) over the finish line in his bid to be the Speaker of the House. Good for the House Republicans. They are beginning to see what the rest of the country saw in Trump and voted him out in 2020 and will not vote for him in 2024.

What about the needs of her precious dogs?

But maybe she's the "perfect" Republican now--performative nonsense is far more important than substance.

Obviously, Ms. Mace was skimming "Teen-zine" when she was supposed to be reading her high school English assignment of the "Scarlett Letter."

Race to the bottom for the ReTrumplican't Celebrity-Hungry females (and adjacent) ...who wins the race?

Well. That's more than just a little bit sexist.

Glad you enjoyed the reality of the celebrity Queens.

A part of me thinks she was inspired by Easy A and has no idea about the Scarlet Letter.

This clip from Face the Nation was also such a bad look.

...”A”, as in asinine antic

She seems to be succeeding in getting attention and free media with this stunt. Clothing as billboard works. Melania did it, AOC did too.

Chris - Agree. Regretfully agree. I recall that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's first term from 2020 to 2022 was spent mostly without committee assignments due to her dalliances with white supremacist groups and via social media harrassment of Parkland HS mass shooting survivors among other uncouth behavior formerly unbecoming and intolerable to voters. As a Rep-elect, she was also one of Rep. Jim Jordan's co-conspirators who met at the WH with former POTUS Trump in Dec. to scheme how to reverse Trump's defeat by voters. None of that didn't stop Greene from raising more money online than any other individual, non-leadership Rep. - as a freshman. Does the potential for judicially-forced reconfiguration of Rep. Mace's Charleston-centered district to add back 30,000 mostly Black residents/voters who were stripped from her district's present boundaries after the 2020 Census redistricting have anything to do with the dramatic changes in Rep. Mace's modus operandi as a US Rep?

Check out Tapper’s reaction at the end of this clip when she tells him about all the Congressional Dems who trust Jordan. They’re not going to have a speaker soon.

Another GOPer who is going down the rabbit hole. No sane one around in the GOP, at least anyone that will speak up and do anything.

The Mace Veer is confounding. After seeing her on The Bill Maher Show last year, I texted friends to say that a moderate conservative retired soldier white woman was going to be a serious Presidential candidate in 8 years. I’m baffled. I assume she wants to be Trump’s Vice President.

Ah, that makes sense...

We talk along about Donald Trump in this forum so I think it's worth mentioning and emphasizing that Trump lost multiple times with the House Republicans. He could not save McCarthy, he was not welcome as a temporary Speaker and his candidate (Jim Jordan) for the Speakership lost as well!. Good omen for the House Republicans and the Country aa well
