You would have thought that her father would have taught her that honesty and openess is the best policy. Oh wait...

It was only a matter of time. She worked with the best:

Scott Pruitt, EPA: put a sound proof phone booth in his office that cost $43,000.

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin: cost taxpayers more than $1 million in combined airfare after taking eight separate government trips during a an eight-month period last year.

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke: his office spent nearly $139,000 to renovate three sets of office doors allegedly in need of repair and $53k on helicopter trips.

Ben Carson, HUD: spent $31,000 mahogany dining set to replace the 50-year-old table in Carson's office.

Bottom line: it’s a natural progression and in comparison to the others, a $19,000 podium sounds like a bargain....:)

I want Chris to travel the country and unearth scandals in each state he visits.

Why does a lectern cost $19,000?

Also, if we wanna follow this story is there a reporter or news outlet you recommend keeping up with?

I would follow Matt Campbell at Blue Hog Report. He's been all over this. He's at: https://twitter.com/BlueHogReport

I spent an afternoon in Jonesboro recently, I'm mad I didn't catch this one. Though in Memphis I got inundated with Presley-Reeves campaign ads.

amateur mistake - address all your podium needs at Lecterns 'R Us

Using state money for a private purpose looks criminal and depending on the facts impeachable. The US Attorney needs to investigate because the fraudulent use of a credit card is undoubtedly a federal offense.

No surprise. She was a liar at the podium in the White House, which is an understatement. Her father....

A true deplorable. A condescending liar. She has very little redeeming qualities as a human being. Corrupt and devoid of empathy, she's a true leader of MAGAts.

Thank you for this Chris! I hadn't heard of podium gate yet. Very, very interesting.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Based upon her 'performance' as the White House press secretary for Trump, I have would not consider Ms. Sanders' to have a great deal of integrity, anyway - she took Kellyanne Conway's 'alternative facts' (remember the Bowling Green Massacre) and raised it to a whole new level of lying.

I normally do not believe in coincidences...so why were you really in Arkansas?

Given how much lecterns/podiums are going for in Arkansas, have you thought of a new career?

Oh, really...? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Lecterns do not cost $19,000. Almost positive this will result in more revealing purchases and demonstrate how politicians are above the law when spending our money. Corruption seems to be the rule rather than the exception.

Expand full comment

Let me add - is there not a bidding process for this type of purchase? Price shopping?

Expand full comment

While I’ve done VASTLY more corporate business than government business, there is ALWAYS a threshold amount for minor purchases, and additional “signatures” are required when the purchase exceeds xxx amount.

After the passage of Sorbane-Oxley, federal legislation that resulted from the Enron book-cooking scandal, “transparency” in the purchasing process became critical. A $19K purchase that did NOT require a minimum of 3 bids and as many approving signatures seems HIGHLY atypical and suspicious to me. And typically, a P-card, ie corporate credit card, carries a very low limit, since it doesn’t require approving signatures: $19K on a P-card, even for a Governor, is HIGHLY unusual.

This is indeed a real scandal and I would wager, as Chris has said, it may well be just the tip of the iceberg...

Expand full comment

Thanks. I've only been slightly involved in corporate purchases way in the past, but there were rules upon rules. There were also strict approved vendor lists in that business. Someone would get fired over a $19k lectern.

Not to quibble (ok, i am quibbling) it’s Sarbanes-Oxley. Paul Sarbanes was a good guy.

Expand full comment

Yeah, I questioned whether I should check the spelling or not, particularly since auto-correct on my iPad wrote “Sorbonne” and I corrected it. The point is still the same: it made the corporate purchasing process quite onerous, though it was clearly needed (seems like the Trump Organization could have learned a thing or two from it...)

She will be just fine. Nobody operating under the MAGA umbrella ever has to face the consequences of their actions. Remember Matt Goetz? Didn't he have some issue related to an underage female just disappear? And like that situation, this too shall pass.
