Hi quick comment - love seeing you on video but I really like the written posts too - I find I can get to them faster during my work day. So, hope you'll still be sending the written versions as well a few times a week as needed? Love your writing style! Thanks for all the content.

I agree. I don’t have time for the videos. I hope I’m not missing good stuff. Maybe include the transcript.

I'll second this. I rarely, if ever, look at youtube videos for any reason so transcripts would be appreciated.

I agree with this, Tanya. It's much easier for me to read an article then watch a multi-minute video.

Yes to this. I am a quick reader and it’s much easier for me to fit in during my workday if it’s a written post. Plus I already feel overwhelmed by video content. I’m not able to watch everything I’m already subscribed too as it is.

I totally agree! I’m much more likely to read than watch a video!

Hi Chris, I also prefer not having videos in your columns. I usually read them while taking a short break at my desk. Having a video play makes that difficult.

Here's my question. What would happen if interviewers stop pretending that they understand Trump when he goes into word salad mode. Instead of listening respectfully, I would like to see someone say, "I'm sorry, that doesn't make sense. What are you talking about?"

This is a wonderful idea!! Somehow it needs to start becoming news! I listened to a Bulwark podcast that had a psychiatrist on and he talked about how this jumbling of words is an early sign of dementia. This needs to be out there!! There could be one ad with clips of all of his gaffes!

Hi, Chris. This may be a little outside your normal political expertise and more into psychology but here goes. There is a major disconnect between reality and Trump supporters. Facts aren't facts. Trump's lies are truths. The world is upside down. How can this happen? Also, the Time interview is absolutely frightening but his supporters want his dictatorial ideas to come to fruition. Again, why? Any insight into what's happening and why?

I worry about a lot of things related to Trump getting another term in the White House. But one of my biggest fears is what he plans to do with civil service and government employees. The talk of eliminating agencies and ensuring that if you work for the government in any way, you must be loyal to him, is frightening. This isn’t one of those things that can just be easily reversed in the future. Why do you think this isn’t getting more attention as a campaign issue?

Thanks for posting the old video of Obama’s 2011 WHCD speech. I really enjoyed it. I know it probably pushed Trump into running, but it also seemed a more effective line of attack on Trump. He treated Trump like a buffoon. I’m really not into blood sport campaigning, but isn’t making your opponent look cartoonish to voters smart? Wouldn’t that help? Or, would it just make his base dig in more? It would definitely get under his skin…

Hi Chris. Do you think it’s possible Alito and Thomas want Trump to win so they can retire? If so, doesn’t the Biden campaign need to make the connection to people?? And what would happen if Trump were to get 2 more Supreme Court picks!! That would mean he would have chosen over half of the SC! To me that is absolutely terrifying. I am frustrated we don’t see Dems using the SC in messaging. To me it could be effective, esp since their approval rating is in the cellar

Hi Chris - really enjoy your work and what you’re doing with the Replay as well! - I have 2 young children (7 and 4) so thankfully I don’t have to try to explain to them the embarrassment of what is happening on college campuses right now. My question is, how are you explaining it to your children and what are your overall thoughts on these protests? Personally, I am appalled at our “esteemed” universities allowing these types of encampments, protests, etc. to occur and university administrations all across the country should be ashamed of themselves. Appreciate your thoughts!

Friday question:

Major League Baseball- I’ll mention some minor controversies with a very short opinion. Please give yours:

Pitch Clock - I love it

Larger Bases - ehh

Pace of play - love it

Total inter league schedule - like it

Guardians or Indians - Guardians it is

Thanks Chris

Chris I will be celebrating my 13th wedding anniversary with my wife on May 22nd of this year. Looking at the traditional gifts for the 13th anniversary shows lace as the perfect gift. Since your nickname is lace I’m thinking a signed autographed photo will be the perfect gift this year. This definitely won’t be a flush the mouse situation. Thoughts?

Don’t you agree voters (that’s US) are entirely to blame for the sad state of our politics? Liz Cheney takes a principled stand and loses her Republican primary by 30 points. Marjorie Taylor Greene sprouts self-serving extreme-MAGA nonsense and undermines her own party/leaders, but wins her 2022 6-person primary with 69% of the vote! In 1970 cartoonist Walt Kelly (“Pogo”) wrote “we have met the enemy and he is us”. Imagine Trump’s behavior if he speeched “blah blah VERMIN yada yada POISON etc” and there was an uncomfortable silence and occasional Boos? Hint: Different!

I agree to some extent, but partisanship, extreme gerrymandering, and our electoral college system have a lot to do with it, too.

Good points well taken, Pam. Still, the Liz Cheney WY primary was statewide- no gerrymandering there

Very true. I think her defeat was the result of Trump's complete takeover of the GOP - and the voters that have fallen in line with that takeover are certainly to blame for lifting up a party that has gone completely off the rails. Unfortunately, the reasons I listed above give the GOP a leg up nationally although the party in no way represents a majority of U.S. voters. That's what is so frustrating to me. I keep seeing people saying that we will deserve it if we re-elect Trump, but Trump has never won the popular vote and never will. It's our electoral system that made his presidency possible and I'm afraid may do so again.

Chris, it's painful watching these campus protests get worse and worse, especially as a Columbia alum. But politically, isn't this an obvious "Sister Souljah" moment for Biden (ie, anger a bit of your narrow fringe to capture much more of the vast middle)?? Watching masked thugs deny Jewish students access to campus, smashing buildings, and protesters demanding food as "humanitarian aid" for themselves, these are not popular aspects of the movement in the vast majority of America. Why not denounce that forcefully from one of these campuses? It also looks like a leadership failure to stay silent. Please tell me it's not really all about the electoral politics of Michigan....

Question for you...what do you make of RFK's comments yesterday that Biden should drop out of the race because he is the only one who can beat Trump?

What do you think is the realistic point of RFK's campaign? The likelihood that he could beat either candidate is basically none. Biden nor Trump would never drop out. Do you think RFK is trying to just be a disruptor? I can see a case being made that his campaign could hurt either candidate, but probably more so to Biden.

What is his point?

Hello,

During every presidential election year, voters are told about the potential for an "October Surprise" that could upend the election. What is a good definition of "October Surprise" and what was the biggest one that you can remember? Do they really effect the outcome of the race or is it more of a fear that campaigns have? Thank you!

In April 1970 I was a student at Buffalo State. Post Kent State, I was in an English class in the basement of one of the halls on campus. Several people entered the classroom and advised if we wanted to leave, we should because they were going to occupy that hall in protest of Kent State. I left and had to navigate an obstacle course, with tear gas heavy in the air to get to my car. Police, National Guard and students were going at it. Frightening. My question is this. How much influence do Biden and Blinken have on Netenyahu? It appears Bibi is ruthless.
