Why do campaigns bombard anyone who donates once with a ton of messages asking for money. My guess is that it is cheap and if it brings in anything that is a bonus. Has anyone ever thought that it is a discouragement to ever donating? Has anyone done any research on the long-term impact of this practice?
I was one of the many that ordered the Harris/Walz camo hat and on a slow day I don't get less than 6 texts or emails - on a busy day it's at least 10. Unfortunately I'm not wealthy enough to have benefited from the tax cuts Dottering Donnie gave to his buddies in the top one-percent, so the cash spigot is on permanent "slow-drip".
Can't help but to reply - I get at least 10 messages a day. They can refer to the same candidate- one message they are on the verge of blowing the whole thing. The other message can be boosting how much further ahead they are than their opponent. It reals of "no greenbacks from me"
Hi, Chris. Let's say the election plays out similarly to 2020. Obliviously, Trump won't concede and claim it was rigged but do you think Republicans will placate him like last time and humor his denialism or will they be quick to move on?
I have no doubt that Peter Marshall's job was harder than it looked (and RIP), but everyone remembers Paul, and while there have been many Hollywood Squares hosts since, no center square (including some pretty big names) has been able to replicate Paul Lynde's popularity and force of personality. There's a reason we're still talking about a guy best known for a game show.
There is so much interest in the debates, with both presidential and VP debates scheduled.
Are there still voters that are really undecided? We have been watching Trump for over 8 years. There are still people who don’t know how they feel about him and will decide their vote based on a debate?
I didn't see either of these mentioned already, so I'm shooting for a two-fer. Also, Chris if these make the cut can I get a written reply? I'm a reader, not a listener. One reader suggested including a written transcript of your podcasts for those of us that prefer reading over listening. I don't know if that's technically possible, but it would be a great enhancement.
Question 1: Is the popularity of Harris/Walz ticket facing the possibility of cresting too soon before the election?
Question 2: Trump recently proposed making tips free from federal taxes. Shortly after, Harris said something similar (the same?).
Is there any benefit or advantage (or drawback) to Harris (or Walz) saying something along the lines of . . . .
"I'm running to be the President of all Americans. Some people may be surprised to hear me say this, but the Democratic party doesn't have a monopoly on good ideas. Every President should be receptive to proposals that improve the lives of ordinary Americans, regardless of which party made the suggestion; and that's how things will work in a Harris/Walz administration. If we're going to have a government that works for everyone, then all of us in Washington have to move away from the "my way or the highway" approach to legislation."
Or is this just another one of my West Wing fantasies?
The thing that worries me the most is what if Harris wins, and the Republicans have put so many election deniers in place for who will refuse to certify the election, will he somehow be able to steal it? I’m hoping that there are people looking into this, but I don’t hear it talked about very much.
On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being "nobody cares" and 10 being election dispositive, how big a problem for Harris are the continuing protests and the overall Gaza issue? It is difficult for her to have to thread the needle, when almost anything she says is going to be unsatisfactory to one side or the other, and when Trump can just tell Netanyahu to "finish the job" with no apparent ramification.
Do you think that having a Presidential nominee drop out and be replaced by a new candidate with better polling will be an option that is used going forward (seeing how well it has worked for the Democrats this time around)?
(reposting a question added to your YouTube post on RFK Jr earlier today)
Chris, any thoughts on what happens to the state of the race if RFK Jr. drops out?
There was a fair bit of punditry weeks/months ago on whether he was hurting Trump more or Biden more, but of course that's ancient history now, and I haven't seen much talk about where his remaining 3-4% might go if he drops out.
IMO this is a bit of a wildcard, but it seems like a reasonable guess that by this point Kamala has already picked up the majority of the voters that were anti-Biden but ok with a generic Dem, so what remains are either firmly anti-Dem and/or true RFK Jr. believers…and if I had to guess I'd think they break more towards Trump than Harris…and given the right race, this could put Trump back in the lead…kind of keeps me up at night 😬
Will Dems use ads that highlight all the prior Trump administration’s senior officials are not endorsing Trump? In fact many said won’t vote for him, even his VP?
In the battleground states, do Democrats have a surrogate and enthusiasm advantage? For example, I don't see Scott Walker, Paul Ryan, Brian Kemp, Pat Toomey, Jeff Flake, etc. standing up on stage with the Trump-Vance team.
Also, Ted Cruz and Rick Scott are not innately likeable figures and both had competitive races in 2018 with neither candidate eclipsing 51%. Do you predict those races at all get close this cycle?
Of those you listed, only Kemp is still in office, whereas I *think* most of the surrogates on the D side are currently in office. Somehow I don't think either Trump or Kemp want his as a POTUS campaign surrogate.
I keep reading that Biden is pissed at Pelosi at "pushing him out", all these five weeks later. Surely, seeing the response to KH he can't still be holding a grudge? What's your take, can this marriage be saved?
Are Trump's people hand-picking the reporters at these press conferences, because the questions they are asking are beyond softball. They are spoon feeding him the answers with the questions.
Chris, are Trump’s blabfests really press conferences? In the old days the reporter would ask a question and the askee?, would answer the question. Not ramble on for ten minutes talking about something entirely different.
Why won’t any reporters ask Trump about the $10 million dollar bribe?
Or why he buried Ivana on his golf course?
Or where the Crossfire Hurricane binder is?
Or why he forbade the Butler doctors to give a press conference?
You forgot my favorite . . . .
Trump to the big oil guys - "give me a billion dollars and I'll make it worth you while".
He buried Ivana???

the texts and emails are driving me mad - and not even candidates in my state! A huge downside to Act Blue.
100% agree.

You can unsubscribe. I did and, for the most part, the messages have stopped. (For now anyway.)

Peter Marshall died today at 98 years old. Who was more important to Hollywood Square’s success? Peter Marshall or Paul Lynde?
Peter was important to the entire game show genre. Paul was hilarious but Peter’s influence went beyond Squares.
I have no doubt that Peter Marshall's job was harder than it looked (and RIP), but everyone remembers Paul, and while there have been many Hollywood Squares hosts since, no center square (including some pretty big names) has been able to replicate Paul Lynde's popularity and force of personality. Wow, Peter lived to a ripe old age. Peter was the straight guy who fed the lines to Paul. They were both good.

Upvote again for written transcript of the podcasts. Maybe the Listening Post service that is Our Host's source of the Trumpy transcripts?
update edit - transcript button is on the lower right, just left of the cc button. Thanks, Chris!

If Trump can't have his way - he is intent on taking us all down. He's already started with - if he doesn't win; then it's rigged

I actually had 3 questions, but hope you will answer at least 1:
1) Who do you feel was/is the best television newsperson ever?
2) Who was/is the best journalist ever?
3) How would you describe your relationship with the Kornheiser family? Do you hang out with them socially as well as appearing on the podcast?
