This question is seemingly right up there with the fantasy that Michelle Obama is secretly plotting to ride in and be the Democratic nominee later this year.
But......
Is there any chance the Supreme Court is about to get the last laugh. They made the announcement yesterday regarding Trump's immunity, knowing full well how unpopular it would be, because they've already decided that he's not eligible to run based on the insurrection parameters specified in the 14th Amendment? A decision that will be released between now and the middle of April?
Bonus question: Do you think it's better to relocate to Canada, England, or one of the European countries? (Asking for a friend [wink, wink]).
I have to vote “Canada” because of familiarity. Even though as they say “Canada could have had it all: American industry, British Culture and French Cuisine. Instead they got French Industry, American culture and British cuisine”
Does the Supreme Court just not care how most Americans have lost faith in them? In what world does it take sense to put off hearing the immunity claim for TWO MONTHS? It clearly reeks of trying to delay Trump's trial until after the election. Such a case is paramount to our nations interests. And they think it is ok to wait until June to issue a ruling?
Can you comment on potential political motivations of the recent Supreme Court decision to take up the presidential immunity case? Specifically thoughts as related to timing.
Follow up question, if the Supreme Court is acting with political motivations (or at least the appearance there of), what changes would be needed to restore the impartiality of the court?
I think we're now up to 19 Republican members of the House who have said that they won't run for re-election, with many citing the toxic environment up on Capitol Hill.
Now that they're free from being primaried by a Trump-endorsed opponent, wouldn't many problems be solved by one of them making a Motion to Vacate? They could abstain from voting for or against Johnson, thereby allowing the Democrats to remove Johnson and become the majority party in the House, with Hakeem Jeffries as the new Speaker. Budgets would get passed, Ukraine would get funding, etc, etc, etc. These 19 Republican don't have to do anything other than sit on their hands.
With nothing to lose, why will they not take this step? Especially in light of the actions taken by the Supreme Court on Wednesday, why are none of the people patriotic enough to put the well-being of the country ahead of the impending autocracy of Trump and what's become of the Republican Party?
I saw Jeffrey Toobin last night back on CNN. He was let go for enormously different reasons than you. But, any chance we will see you back on CNN (or another network) anytime soon?
Yes, we are royally and totally screwed. The republicans have now expanded their gerrymandering from the state level to the national level. With only about 33% actual support, they've rigged the system to have control over the other 67%. Doesn't matter how many of us in the coastal states vote democratic, the republicans control all of the levers of power. Women will become de facto second-class citizens, subservient to men and with no control over their own reproductive systems. All non-white people will need to document their citizenship back for two or three generations to avoid being sent to one of the new concentration camps. The Supreme Court will override the Obergefell decision and retroactively void all same-sex marriages. Trans people will be forced to undergo medical procedures returning them to their gender at birth, and will then be sent to a separate concentration camp. Christianity will become the official (and only recognized) religion. All this, and more, coming on January 20, 2025.
Earlier in the week, you aid that all signs were point to the eventual Kissing of the Ring w reference to Mitch and DJT and an inevitable endorsement.
Does McConnell's decision to step down as leader, change the calculus any? Does Mitch now play the role of spoiler and use his megaphone to bury Trump?
Do you think that the 20%-30% of Republicans who don't like Trump (i.e. Haley supporters) will ever realize that "their" GOP is dead and leave the party? The wings of the party are so far apart philosophically that they no longer are able function as a governing entity.
An outside the box question… So… the Supreme Court has agreed to take up the case regarding Presidential immunity. Let’s say, for a moment that they rule in Trump’s favor Does that mean Joe Biden can engage the National Guard & hold office for however long he wants? Because Presidential immunity would then apply equally to both sides, no?
I've been hearing from a variety of media sources that Trump's event crowds are slowly but surely shrinking. Maybe not by massive amounts, but that he no longer fills arenas. The latest was before the SC primary when he complained that the lights were blinding him and he then gave his "I'm like a black person" rant. From what I heard, the lights were bright so that he couldn't see that the venue was not full.
I also heard on The Focus Group podcast some MAGA people complaining about the fact that Trump is tiresome and his stories are re-runs (i.e., his greatest hits). They too are apparently getting tired of the lies and stories.
Is it possible that Trump has run his course?
But ... what happens to the country if he loses in November. Are the hard core MAGA crowd going to go nuts and become homegrown terrorists?
Do you think that last night's Supreme Court decision (agreeing to take on the "total immunity" issue) is purely political OR is possibly a backwards way of attempting to appear apolitical? I'm torn - my faith in SCOTUS is severely shaken and I'm not sure I trust any motives at the moment...
Pundits and politicians have always said the next upcoming presidential election is "historic" or "the most important election in US history" or "Flight 93 election" or whatever. I think that has created a "boy who cried wolf" problem that is obscuring the fact that 2024 probably actually *is* the most consequential election in US history (at least since 1860). I know it's difficult to evaluate the historical consequence of events as they're happening. But what do you think?
Hi Chris. You wrote that the Republican party has turned into a cult of personality, and I totally agree! I would like to hear your take on what happens post-Trump. After all, a cult of personality requires a specific person to worship, and for whatever reason (still unfathomable to me) Trump appeals to millions of devotees. I just don't see anyone else (even those trying to out-Trump Trump) having the same appeal. So, does the party revert to what it was under Reagan & Bush(es)? Or is there a wild period where the MAGA crowd will be looking for a Trump replacement? Also, will the direction the Dems take influence this process? Like, the more wokeism is pushed by the Dems, the more MAGAs will resist reverting to 'normal' Republican agenda.
It has been feeling a little like Mitch McConnell was starting to lose some control over his conference. Do you agree, and if so, do you think this contributed to his decision to step down?

Especially since the issue was fully briefed before the DC Circuit ruling!

I don’t mind the thumb on your YouTube channel!!

I like the thumb! Does the very low attendance at CPAC give us any hope that people are turning away from Trump?
