Going a little local here (no, not this is not about the refugee Safeway)… Can you talk a bit about Mark Robinson and the NC governor race? I mean, the things I am reading about him are just awful.

My hope is it turns out to be like other elections in which the radical Republican makes it through the primary then gets defeated in the general.

Liz Cheney says she will do what it takes to prevent Trump from being re-elected. What will she do, and when will she start?

This is a link to Liz Cheney's PAC. She's previously said that she intends to support "work horse" type Congressional candidates committed to governing from both parties in competitive districts/states in addition to defeating Trump for POTUS. https://greattask.com/

Chris - could you discuss the political effects of appearances that Trump is broke? He has 3 days left to pay $83.3 million to appeal the Carroll case or pay Carroll? He paid the $5m to appeal last year's Carroll case. He'd have to put up property collateral to secure a bond loan to appeal. If he doesn't, Carroll's lawyers can move to liquidate some of his property to pay up. He faces a deadline within one month to put up $450+ million to NY taxpayers for biz fraud or the NY AG could similarly confiscate assets. Trump's lawyers are throwing up desperate motions to delay, but must he fork over the money one way or the other before the GOP Convention? How appealing would a broke, sexual abuser, biz fraud Trump be to low info voters in the General Election? https://x.com/Salions/status/1765777394244231663?s=20

I know you've hashed over this multiple times for us, and I am in agreement that politics is a pendulum (albeit with a long cycle). Somehow the current times feel different. With the GOP becoming the party of Trump, is it possible that traditional conservatives (ala Haley, and the like) become more and more homeless, disaffected and leave the party (or at least stop voting for a time), and the active GOP becomes nothing but MAGA Republicans. That doesn't seem sustainable, and it seems like there is at least a possibility that the GOP implodes, or at least becomes a shadow of its former self. Is the pendulum still stronger than these times?

I find my self thinking about the money Trump owes as a result of his NY fraud and defamation/rape cases. Specifically, as it pertains to national security. Have you come across any insights (or have any of your own) about what it would mean if a wealthy donor, or worse, a foreign government bailed him out? TBH, I’d much prefer the RNC help him pay his bills—at least we know where the money is coming from, and it means they have less money to spend on his (and other Republicans’) campaigns.

What do you think? 2028 - Harris/ Buttigieg. v. Haley/Scott

Random, but why did Nikki Haley’s alleged affairs get zero media coverage?

Chris, some of the “So What” readers have complained that the MSM focuses too much on Biden’s age. I see three “solutions” for this:

1. Polling organizations stop asking voters whether they think Biden is too old to be President again.

2. Polling organizations continue to ask the question, but they restrict the data to the campaigns only (might be hard).

3. Polling organizations continue to ask the question, but MSM media outlets self-censor and stop reporting it (highly unlikely that Fox would do this, especially if the numbers were bad for Biden).

What are your thoughts? Is there a “solution?” Should there be?

What is the immediate and long-term future of CA Rep. Katie Porter now that she is not running in the fall?

Hi Chris,

I would love to get your takeaways on the California senate primary and Katie Porter's "rigged" comment.

It's sad that such a talented Democrat is using the crutch excuse of a "rigged" election because they lost. It's also very sad that Adam Schiff used the perfectly legal but ethically ambiguous strategy of boosting Steve Garvey's image so that he'd be Schiff's opponent in November. Yeah, I know that the only thing that matters in the long run is how many D's and R's there are next January, but it would have left a better taste in my mouth if Schiff and Porter had a true battle in which the best candidate won in November.

Katie Porter did the exact same thing!

Does the CBS poll that shows 30-ish percent of Republicans won’t support Trump help Biden a lot? I know they’ll likely just stay home, but if the gop stays home en masse, that’s a boon for Biden, right? La Cheesieree!

Given that we are heading toward a Trump v Biden rematch it feels like this year's election is more about what voters don't want. Can you think of a previous election where voters were so strongly focused on what they don't want, the high disapproval ratings of both candidates, and the general lack of party enthusiasm? In a way Trump and Biden are both incumbents who have strong disapproval numbers and both parties have some amount of fragmentation in their ranks, so have we ever had a similar election situation in the last 100 years or is this truly unique?

Hi Chris, I am a long time follower of yours and I appreciate the insights you share. I think this may have been asked before but I must have missed it. I don’t want anyone to think less of me for asking but what do you think would happen if, heaven forbid, Joe Biden or Donald Trump had a serious medical issue come up that would pull them out of the race. How would a substitute be chosen and who do you think that could be for each party?

Will the overruling of Roe v. Wade play any role in the election and, if the Supreme Court sustains the Mifepristone ban, will THAT play any role in the election?
