Welcome to the Trump era (again).
It’s been, um, a whirlwind first few days.
Donald Trump signed 26 executive orders on January 20. (He signed one on his first day as president eight years ago.)
His controversial pick for Secretary of Defense — Pete Hegseth — will get a full Senate vote tomorrow, and looks like he will get confirmed by the slimmest of margins.
Meanwhile, Democrats are still playing the blame game about 2024.

I'm curious what you think of ranked choice voting. On the one hand, I get that for many (most?) people it's confusing as hell. Yet, I can't help but believe it could (would?) soften the extreme polarization between candidates advancing to general elections. Do you think it would be a good thing to be used widely? Do you think it ever would be? I'd welcome a few thoughts on a Friday, or even a devoted piece, if you were so inclined.
I feel like the resistance to Trump is at an all-time low. And those who do speak out are being ignored and often scorned for their opinions. Meanwhile, Trump is building momentum to change the country, and the world in his image. My guess is you’ll pass over this question in favor of something less dire, but I am genuinely frightened at where we are headed. I don’t have confidence that there are enough people to continue standing up to Trump again and again. Do you feel just as confident in the strength of our systems today as you were in November, or even last week?
