What would your elevator pitch for So What be to my conservative-leaning mother who feels overwhelmed by politics so much that she's willfully uniformed? I want her to feel empowered by knowing what's going on, not overwhelmed. I think you could be a good fit for her since you're generally lighthearted, fair, and offer good analysis and context. But what would you say to my mom?
I have got some questions on Trump's replacement theories because of his criminal indictments. Are you entertaining questions on that too? Just checking
Now that Ukraine aid has passed the senate, is it time for Democrats and/or less-isolationist Republicans to submit a discharge petition to pass that bill in the house?
It appears that Ronna Romney McDaniel is on her way out, what do you think about Lara Trump possibly co-chairing? She’s stated the money will all go to Trump, no surprise there.
Do you foresee the ability to replicate Suozzo's successful framing of the immigration/border security attacks by Republicans in his Special Election to any, all or some of the 30-40 competitive House districts in the November general election? Suozzo was a known quantity as a prior incumbent. His Republican challenger was a virtual unknown -- like George Santos had been. She purposely avoided many public opportunities to introduce herself to voters which may have increased a foreboding similarity to George Santos. This NY-3 special election also occurred within one month of Republicans killing their own negotiated bipartisan border security bill at the request of Donald Trump -- who bragged about it. Some media accounts have treated Suozzo's success as a template for other Democrats this fall. Will Democrats in those competitive districts enjoy the resource ratio advantage of Suozzo. Are the Republican candidates as unknown as in NY-3?
Wanted to get your thoughts on the lack of drama/turnover in the Biden administration. There's been no tell-all from a disgruntled staffer, no Woodward book where everyone spills and the cabinet has largely stayed in-tact.
Do you think this is a good thing for Biden heading into the campaign?
The answer is simple, Biden is a DECENT human being. You remember no drama Obama, well Biden was his Vice President. Birds of the same fearher flock together
Chris, does the country need to have a conversation around ageism? Remember, the largest block of population, the Baby Boomers, are now almost all over 60 years old. So many people today feel free to conclude, because someone looks old, they must have diminished capabilities. It feels like a form of racism - we try to teach people to not draw conclusions about someone else because of their skin color, sex, religion, physical handicaps, and so on, however, we seem to feel we can judge someone else because of whether or not they look or act old. So much of the conversation around Biden is because he looks old, a subjective feature, and not based upon his command of facts, his ability to lead, or other objective criteria. EVERYONE, at any age, makes verbal gaffes, mixes up names, and mixes up dates from time-to-time - verbal gaffes, in and of themselves, are not objective measures of someone’s mental capabilities. Yet, so many today are quick to negatively judge Biden.
An old adage in negotiations is to never underestimate an opponent, for any reason. Because of ageism, are we underestimating Biden’s capabilities solely because of how he looks and a few verbal gaffes?
Chris where do you see journalism in five and 10 years? My local paper just announced it’s moving from seven day print to two day print with daily online news. My father loves the paper and it’s one of his happy points (he’s 84). He will not access it on line.
I’ve asked this before relative to the No Labels effort, but with the recent comment by Sen Manchin that if he were hypothetically to run as a third party candidate he would choose Mitt Romney, do see any path through the electoral college for a third party candidate to win? No Labels put out an analysis awhile back where they showed an independent third party could win by winning some key battle ground states, which they would only need to win with a majority of the voters.
There are videos from 2/8 online of Trump saying “I heard and I watched and the one thing I’ll say they kept saying about what I said right after the insurrection.” Then it hit him that he said it was an insurrection and added “because I think it was an insurrection caused by Nancy Pelosi.” Some of the videos have been shortened but when you listen to the parts quoted above, I really don’t think he meant to say insurrection at all… and then tried to clean it up. None of the coverage I have seen picked up on that. Comments?
This past week you expertly used the “mad as hell” meme from Peter Finch’s Network character. Do you think Finch’s character shares similarities with the way Trump ran his 2016 campaign?
I’d like to see a deep dive on Trump’s stupid comments re NATO. People hear him talking about countries paying their bills. But they don’t owe money to us. He’s referring to countries’ obligation to spend 2% of their gdp on defense. Well, it doesn’t matter if Finland or Belgium, for example, spend 2% or 5% of their GDP on defense. They can’t fend off a Russian invasion without our help. People need to understand that , contrary to what Jamie Dimon said, Trump’s not “sort of right” re NATO. It’s not a pay for play protection racket

So wondering @chriscillizza, what grade would you give journalism in the US in 2024? What can/should be done to improve it?

Happy early birthday, Chris!

So Donald Trump's son is Donald Trump Junior. So why isn't Donald Trump called Donald Trump Senior?
Tim Scott voted to certify Biden's electoral college win on Jan 6- do you think that dooms his chances of becoming Trump's pick for VP?

Question- why are you so adamant that JB must remain the nominee, when there are avenues that open the door for someone new?
