Reagan announced he was a candidate in 1980 in Philadelphia, MS. What's famous about Philadelphia, MS? The murder of civil rights workers Goodman, Chaney and Schwerner. And Reagan spoke about state's rights, which he could have done anywhere but choose that location in MS. Trump announced on Juneteenth, which in his egotism he claimed made the holiday famous, but was considered "racially tinged", a euphemism for racist. And one of the major and well documented changes since Musk has taken over Twitter is the explosion in misogynist, racist and antisemitic comments. Regardless of its popularity, announcing on Twitter is cut from the same cloth.

hahahahah!! i have a T shirt from the Four Season's Landscape Company commemorating the glorious media event perpetrated by Giuliani. Cillizza, you are a hoot, thanks so much for injecting some levity into what is surely going to be seen as the most absurd period of US history in the future (god willing there is a future!) thanks, ang

A Troll, unless paid to be disruptive, is someone with “The smartest guy in the room” syndrome.

Sound like DeSantis, and Musk?

I can’t help but think of DeSantis’ obsequious campaign ad reading Art of the Deal to his kids and all. Is he going to lick Musk’s boots with the same ardor that he did Trump’s?

As you note, don’t ask Rudy for directions to Four Seasons unless you’re looking for potting soil.

Maybe bootlicking is part of DeSantis’ personality, in as much as he has one.

Kinky. 😮

This all should be interesting. I am not sure we are ready for this as we have thought we’d have hit bottom by this point. Nope, another race to see who can bottom out first.

At the end of the day, don’t see that it matters much as his announcement will be picked up and shown over and over and over again.

I honestly wonder if DeSantis can ever do anything right in the eyes of some people. His offense is that he dare challenge Donald Trump for the nomination of his party. This is America. DeSantis deserves a chance. This scenario reminds me of 2008 when Barack Obama dared to challenge Hillary Clinton. See how that ended. I will argue that it made America better in the end. So, gentlemen, please give DeSantis a chance.

Just out of curiosity, how many people would Elon Musk to join their family for dinner? Probably less than would like Ron Desantis to join their family for dinner.

Elon Musk might be comparable to Donald Trump. Successful businessman, billionaire, troublemaker. If Ron DeSantis is running as Trump without the baggage, then aligning with Musk rather than Trump might be beneficial.
