Chris is spot on. To quote our mutual friend TonyK…it’s all about the money. FoxNews gave us Trump and won’t give up on him until the money runs out. Despicable.
There are a lot of conservatives that keep their TV's on all day - tuned to Fox. I've never seen anyone watch MSNBC or CNN like that. It sure has an effect on your worldview, especially if those people spend most of their time with others who live in that RW media bubble. Murdoch is destroying American democracy for personal gain.
I believe DeSantis thought he would pick up the Fox megaphone and that they would become his cheering section. It never materialized, mainly because Ron is just… not a good candidate. Besides his quirky weirdness that lets one think he could be a for-real psycho, he's got this deeply swampy scheme going on in Florida, all wrapped up in Moms 4 Liberty and Chris Rufo, the Zieglers, etc. It's starting to look kind of Neo-Nazi and Hitler-y, to be honest, because Ron has brought these creeps on board.
Another example is Ladapo as Surgeon General. DeSantis seemingly has no idea how big an ass that guy is viewed as in the scientific community. Or he does know, and that's the point.
Smart piece , Chris. I think the disclosures from the Dominion case make clear that Fox wanted to move on from Trump. Murdoch hates Trump. Even Tucker hated Trump. The problem for Fox- and all of us- is that the GOP base wants Trump, and GOP pols are too chicken to stand up for principle. The polls show clearly that Haley is the stronger candidate. The base doesn’t care. Trump is a manifest criminal and malignant narcissist . The base wants him more than ever. I used to shake my head as Italy kept electing Berlusconi and think “ at least that can’t happen here.” Well, Sinclair Lewis was , sadly, right, all those years ago. It can happen here
Well you may opine that it can happen here Todd David, anything can happen anywhere. It's not going to happen here. America will not elect t-rump again. America is not Italy
I stopped watching MSNBC for the most part. It's all Trump. all the time. We're your audience. You don't need to convince us. We're sick to death of him, talk about something us.
Even a broken clock is right twice a day (showing my age with THAT analogy), and DeSantis is right.
And, the fact that Fox and right wing media echo chamber (I’d add Mark Levin to that group) won’t turn their backs on him because of money and fear of that cultish base is also correct.
Wow…ol’ Ron just “woke” up and realized that just being a right-wing culture warrior gets you… nowhere without FOX “news”, because Donald J Trump sells, and Ron’s a low-budget stiff. Too bad for him that he didn’t start getting a little riled up earlier in the “ contest”….and try to actually compete with Donald J Trump. Maybe generate some interest and headlines. Too late now for Ron to stage any sort of comeback…..
Spot on, Chris. Follow the money. It’s always about the money and Trump was a ratings guy in 2015 & 2016, they fueled the flames. The cable news were all swarming over Trump back then but Fox was his cheering squad, never contradicting him or fact checking him. DeSantis could have had that but he was not the candidate that most envisioned, he fell flat. Sour grapes but also correct from DeSantis. I can remember back years ago when Fox was claiming to be “fair and balanced”, they slanted to the right but at least tried to be a news outlet. Those days are long gone.
FOX is an entertainment company masquerading as a news organization that, for ratings and advertising dollars, is in an eternal positive feedback loop of pandering to its audience cultural grievances.
Trumpism works because Trump himself, like Fox, is an entertainer masquerading as a politician who panders to the same grievances of his base.

The answer to all your questions is money! --La Cheeserie!
you know it...LaCheeserie to you!
Foxnews is the loudest voice in the Trump as hero/savior/inevitable nominee echo chamber and those immersed in that world will never know the truth.
If DeSantis had been more competent Fox would be his huckleberry now. But, he wasn’t, so whine on crazy diamond.

and that's what doubly pisses me off. He's not even FROM this country but he's done his fair share of ruining it through Fox. All for money.
And almost none of the viewers of Fox News or the other “...broader conservative media universe...” will ever hear the DeSantis complaints...
And hopefully, soon, we will never have to hear anything from DeSantis again (unless you live in Florida - condolences).

I sure hope you're right
Let’s not overlook the fact that CNN (sorry 😬) and MSNBC both absolutely profit by having Pres. Trump as their foil.

For those of us who missed that day in school: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Praetorian_Guard
Brian Stelter has written two excellent books on the very subject of Fox and Trump. the most recent one "Network of Lies" is really fascinating.
His earlier book "Hoax" is also very insightful.
You know there's nothing to do in North Carolina when we get multiple Chris weekend columns.
''Multiple Chris weekend columns'' all about t-rump , t-rump and t-rump.
Excellent. Thanks Chris
Nailed it!
