Ironic that his NC event was cancelled over STORMY weather.

Expand full comment

It wasn't actually. The weather wasn't good but it wasn't that bad. It was canceled because the people run ning his campaign were terrified he'd go off-teleprompter and start ranting about the case in court so badly that when he came to court Monday they'd have thrown him in jail.

These big guys, strong guys, they came up to me, with tears in their eyes, and they said: "Chris, thank you. You are a real American hero."

I hope when Trump dies (I'm not a MAGAt so I don't believe Trump is immortal), scientists will be allowed to study his brain to see how it was possible for this moron to somehow convince millions of voters that he is the chosen one.

Since I suspect that organ hasn't been operational since 90s...probably on a loop! 🤪

I love the “X Lines” pieces that Chris writes as most, if not all, of us here do. I caanot bear to watch or listen to Trump’s moronic rants (or anyone else’s from MAGA World), so I appreciate Chris’ work in breaking the tirades down and injecting humor while doing so.

However, I was struck by Julie’s comment attached to the 4/22 “Chris Crucial” post. It read, in part, “And after 9 years we are still doing this!! Rolling around in the gutter with Donald Trump!!”

9 years indeed. I have followed Chris for his political insight, but also for these “Lines” pieces. Analyzing Trump’s rants would drive me mad. So kudos to you, Chris, for dismembering Trump’s, and others’, rhetoric for all these years. And as long as Trump is around, it looks like CNN’s Daniel Dale (“Facts First”) will have a job.

Thanks, Gail!

You are most welcome. Chris!

That is, as long as the bean counters at Warner Media don’t scrutinize Daniel’s pay and benefits.

To those of us reading the sound bytes that Chris shares with us, it is obvious that Trump is a liar, conman, shaking in his boots, and altogether a buffoon. What I find so puzzling are the folks that hear him speak and shake their fists that Trump is a victim and he is right, etc. I grew up in NJ and NYC and he was a figure in our public news my entire life. All of us locals knew he was a windbag, cheat, and empty-souled. When he announced himself as a candidate back in 2015, I thought the whole thing was laughable and that everyone in the country would think it was ridiculous. I am shocked that people who are stuggling, poor, disenfranchised, lacking in education, etc. would look at this man sitting on his golden toilet in Dump Tower and say "He gets me!"

Also, Trump is saying that he had no idea that there was a payment to Stormy Daniels to buy her off. He just blindly wrote a check for $130K because Cohen asked him to? Trump is known for stiffing everyone (except Stormy), so I highly doubt he would write a check to Cohen without knowing why.

Yep!

Totally agree with you. I grew up in Ridgewood, NJ (Bergen County) and he sure did dominate the news. Learned way back when, just how awful of a human being he is.

this is a wonderful day - I am going to celebrate by going to vote against Tump in the PA primary

Rant aside, a bedraggled Trump sitting in that dingy courtroom for many weeks HAS to diminish him in the minds of all of but the most devout MAGA followers.

And forget the campaign. Trump is upset because he is losing practice time which may add a shot or two to his golf handicap.

It still hasn’t penetrated Donald J Trump’s fluffy head that the ONLY reason that he is in court four out of five days per week is…that he is a CRIMINAL.

Expand full comment

This is the man who said in January of 2016: “I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn’t lose any voters, OK?” With that mindset, then a “minor thing” like a bookkeeping entry can’t possibly be a criminal act for which he can be held accountable (or so he thinks).

Expand full comment

Trump thinks that he cannot be held responsible for any act; criminal or questionable.

Expand full comment

True!!

So he admits the crime in #2? Does he know he is a defendant?

Chris, this is your forte. Great read. I don’t have to watch his rants, you provide the best parts. Trump is becoming more rumpled and disoriented by the day. His attention deficit disorder (and lack of reading comprehension) is being fed in a massive way. All that info overload is short circuiting his brain. We are in for a word salad bar going forward. My biggest concern is the SCOTUS immunity case. I hope RBG can elf from above!

Are you and Jennifer Rubin coordinating columns or is she reading yours? One of your titles from yesterday "The Shrinkage of Donald Trump". Jennifer's column today "Trump was going to dominate the Courtroom. Instead he is shrinking". Great minds think alike?!

While I LOVE the idea, TC...The MAGAts would never let us hear the end of how the "Biden Witch Hunt" (which it isn't nor ever has been, but that will never penetrate their overheated noggins) hounded their beloved Donald to death...To Death, I say. Nah...I'd rather have TFG perish at the podium, mid-rant, at one of his hate-alongs. That way, THEY can wonder if they were too much for him.

Today, he came out of court with a stack of social media printouts that he said he could not show the media. Evidence to exonerate him. It was special.

Chris, I love when you do these! As others have said, I can not stand to listen to Trump, or even look at him, these are a fun, but sad, way to be reminded of just how off the wall nuts he is. He is utterly disgraceful.
