I am ashamed to be an American today.

I'm sorry to say I am too😔 He still sounds like a moron despite being elected the President. Sad, sad, sad.

I’m sick, just sick. I have nothing else to say.

I’m not sure this stuff can ever be funny again. I know it’s probably the current mood speaking, but ooo boy is this all grim.

I just thought the same thing. Perhaps it is just the despair I am feeling right now, but I usually chuckle with Chris’s comments. Not at all. I read Trumps words in complete disgust.

This stuff never really mattered outside of echo chambers.

Remember, folks, with Trump it’s all about GRIFT. GRIFT as a byproduct of power, to be more specific. He declares victory and now he gets to work setting up the money channels to enrich himself, his family, and the sycophants by hundreds of millions of dollars. Think bibles, golden tennis shoes, fabric scraps from his suit…..except multiply it all by a million. Doing what he said he would do on the campaign (running Gestapo squads through immigrant neighborhoods, etc.) doesn’t make him money. It’s destabilizing and could affect the transfer of power to Vance, thereby interrupting the flow of priority number one….that’s right, GRIFT. Take a little comfort: “Crazy campaign Trump” ends here in my view.

I would expect to get a meeting with Trump, or especially to be treated to a State Dinner, or other similar events, there will be a payment required, as long as it is arranged through the DOJ.

Sorry, didn't read. I can't laugh at this shit today.

Exactly. These lists stopped being funny a while ago and I find it depressing that Chris continues to churn them out.

I am very disappointed in the election results. I feel despair and helplessness about the future. I don’t understand why people voted again for someone so unsuited for the job. The United States is no longer held in high esteem by the rest of the world. Our leadership or lack thereof is an embarrassment. Our means of choosing capable leaders is broken and needs a large overhaul.

You are very balanced with this, as you usually are. I guess you will continue to do this for the next 4 years. As you have reminded us, 50% of American supported this man, and that is a number that cannot be ignored. I live with one. I just hav to figure out how to find pockets of grace.

Trump said a lot of garbage things to get elected and to stay out of jail. Now, his version of turning the page comes next. That means putting on a show to make it look good to his MAGA thralls while accomplishing very little..other than staying out of prison. And his duped followers will fall for the con..again.

Houston…we have a winner. And conventional wisdom gets punched in the nose again.

At least it was hugely entertaining to watch the meltdown on MSNBC last night. The coverage on CNN, while obviously glum, was actually pretty good by comparison.

The Dems paid a huge price for conspiring to hide Biden‘s real condition from the rest of us, and then nominating a candidate without vetting her through a robust primary election process, when she had never won a single primary or general election vote for the presidency. The fact that she was an assertive (“sharp as a tack”) conspirator in the effort to high Biden’s condition was damning. And, once again, we have a clear indication that elites making choices for the rest of us in their smoke filled rooms doesn’t work in an environment where mainstream media is no longer the source of much news for people.

What the Democrats did to themselves in 2024 was considerably worse and more damaging to their cause than what they did with superdelegates in 2016.

Maybe it’s time for Democratic elites to wander out of their urban coastal enclaves and see what’s happening with the majority (the garbage?) of Americans, whom they clearly don’t understand very well.

I don't disagree with you Dan, but I push back a bit, no one tried to run against him. NO ONE, and that is all on the party. If there were people who would have run, then there would have been a fully vetted candidate, as you said, and his weaknesses would have been seen.

Rockets ? Really ? He can’t even do a victory speech without veering off into somewhere - in this case space? I really sometimes wonder if we really did get the government we deserved. I hope before the mid-terms the shine wears off.

Well, if nothing else, Chris, you're going to have bigly amounts of material for columns for the next four years.

Come January he'll be a lame duck - I hope he gets reminded of that every day. Should drive him crazy, and I hope it does, with the attention turning to all the other Republicans trying to out Trump him.

I'm glad you're "protecting your genius", Chris. It was only a little chuckle, but I needed it.

We’re going to “fix everything” about our country? Guess his definition isn’t the same as ours on what is fixing and what is everything. I have to do more research on Hitler, Putin, and Kim Jong Un, Erdogan, etc on fixing everything.

I’m sorry, but this narrative of a “mandate” is just total nonsense, and the media and pundits need to stop repeating it just because they are shocked that he won. He might get 6 more electoral votes than Biden. Nobody crowed about a Biden “mandate”. All the media talked about was a few thousand votes in one state or another, and acted like he was lucky to be president.

Trump might wind up winning the popular vote by 1%-2%. That is not a “mandate”. Yes. He made gains in 48 out of 50 states in an apathetic and largely ignorant electorate, where he succeeded in driving voter turnout down significantly. Woo. Hoo. /sarcasm.

Stop repeating the “mandate” bullshit. It is still essentially a 49-51 country on one Tuesday in November. He is going to overreach and, if the media covers it correctly as outrageous rather than some breaking of norms — his popularity will tank. If he delivers on even a sliver of the promises he made on tariffs and mass deportations, inflation is going to skyrocket, as will government spending.

So, before you help him load up on credibility for more false statements, take a beat and put his win in proper context. It was surprising in the widespread gains across the board, but was not some sweeping 15 point victory. Knock it off now, and don’t get conditioned to his hyperbole and false bravado wearing down your rational intellect.

Chris, if you really care about being honest with the American people, you will do the following research: you will look at the 10 lowest GDP per capita nations in the world and the top 10, focussing on the bottom 20% people in each country.

By comparing the percentage of their GDP per capita to the top 20% of which nations come up on top, my guess is the USA comes up pretty high. Maybe it’s a NYT thing, but god are Americans selfish. You are so well off, but you elect him. Ignorance is bliss, I guess.
