In a normal election with normal candidates, these reviews would be quaint and funny. When the "media" is getting criticized for not calling out Trump for the completely crazy stuff he's saying, these reviews now just seem like a complete missed opportunity to fairly compare the two candidates. Chris, your reviews of Harris' interviews and town hall performances actually criticize the candidate who is discussing policy, engaging with the audience like a normal human being, and is empathetic with the voters including those who disagree with her. With Trump it's just laughing it all off like it's normal or something. We've reached the point where we've normalized ridiculous and even treasonous statements and hold the other candidate to what used to be a normal benchmark. Trump couldn't pull off the town hall like she did this week on his absolute best day.

Exactly right. I do note that Harris is still leading in most national polls and in the average of the polls for the 4 key swing states. But there is a very serious chance that a malignant narcissist and know-nothing may get elected again. And we are starting to see people cower in the face of his threats-- witness WaPo and the LA Times being too afraid to endorse Harris. There is nothing normal here , and it's long past the time for responsible people to call that out .

Perfectly said. And this is being replicated across the real media too.

Amen!

EXACTLY!!!!

The double standard of how Trump and Harris are judged is SO ridiculously skewed and perverse.

More abject lunacy from Trump. We are asked by many, including Chris, to be understanding of Trump's voters. But I'm reminded of the great scene in the Sopranos in which Carmela sees a psychiatrist who tells her to take the kids and run and won't accept her blood money. In conclusion, he says "one think you can never say: that you haven't been told. " We've heard his unhinged words; we've had warnings from Kelly, Esper, Mattis, Milley, etc; we've heard from women he assaulted; we've seen his incitement to riot on 1/6; we know of the jury verdicts for fraud. It's beyond me how any decent and informed person could cast a ballot for Trump.

This is just more of letting trump get away with his unhinged statements by making the cute comments that are not analysis at all.

Agree. I don't understand why Chris insists on wasting his and our time with this garbage. It's not like we don't all know who Trump is.

Expand full comment

I agree. Would be better if he made some serious comments, like calling out the garbage for what it is.

He (Chris) apparently enjoys it and probably think that he just might be able to persuade some of his to become a MAGA member

By pointing out how unhinged Trump is? Really? You seem to live in another reality than me.

Expand full comment

Ugh Chris, you’ve reverted back to “amusing”adjectives when describing lines from Trump’s speeches or interviews. Instead of “wildest”, perhaps a word like “dangerous” or “unhinged” might be more apropos.

Expand full comment

Exactly my point. His language skills have deteriorated, which points to serious age-related cognitive decline. That’s not “wild”… that’s “dangerous af” in someone who is a coin toss away from becoming the next president.

Expand full comment

Yeah, it’s gotten to the point that I only read these fluff pieces when I’ve got literally absolutely *nothing* else to read….

Just no real political value, as he’s not saying ANYTHING important and it just shows how far his language skills have deteriorated since 2016….

Here are more “nutty” and “kooky” examples from Trump’s recent speeches…..

Harris is far, far tougher than the former president. He folds even in advance—forecasting negotiating points—as many analysts have already written about.

Sorry, Dude. A vote for Trump is an admission of a deep and profound dislike for America, our constitution, and everything we are about as a people.

If Trump gets back into the White House, those presidential historians who judged him the worst president ever will have to revise their list in 4 years. The only question is how much worse 47 will be than 45. He doesn't appear to be getting any smarter with age.

So much exaggeration, self-serving delusion, rewriting of history, and just blatant lies. He thinks he "gets along good" with everyone. Didn't he launch an investigation of John Kerry for violating the Logan Act?

What's he doing in his private conversations with Bibi, Orban, Putin, and who knows who else - which he flaunts openly? Unfortunately I get the sense that the die have been cast. The polls suggest an absolute stalemate, responsive to no reasoned words, revelations or events. I am exhausted and disheartened. I'd like to have faith that Americans will do the right thing for the country, but recent experience pushes me in the other direction. Perhaps our national history has just run its course and the best we can hope for is minimized violence and abuse.

FYI, Harris had a Townhall meeting with voters this week that was worth analyzing by an objective and independent mind.Well Chris I understand that the Cult leader (Trump) is having a talk with Joe Rogan today I think. When should we expect you to advertise that to us as well

Are you referring to that CNN debacle where she literally ducked every single question?

Nonsense. I just read the transcript of Trump's Univision town hall (the one where he described January 6 as a "day of love") and he was utterly incoherent.

So if Trump does it it’s terrible. He’s an idiot, etc. But when Kamala does it,‘it’s fine? She’s not an idiot? I’m confused by this. Two things can be true, you can both loathe Trump and believe that Kamala ducked every question on the CNN town hall.

But she didn't. That's the MAGAt spin. When MAGAts accuse they're really confessing.

Agreed, MAGA supporter Anderson Cooper pressing her on issues was terrible. Hopefully next time they’ll get a more leftist reporter to give her softball questions.

Great interview by Ezra Klein with Maggie Haberman in NYT about DJT. He is a waste of space, isn't he? Revenge and praise are his two tracks that he follows. He will do everything to arrest anyone who has spoken poorly of him. Gullible person too. Those who worked in gvt and support him want their own power to push their own weird ideas. She did say he's got the record for having the most high level ppl who worked with him say that he is a danger and should not be elected. His even threatened to remove Jack Smith as an American, instead of just remove from him office. He doesn't like governing and is bored by it,except anything involving construction. Yeah, in a condo building association he wouldn't get elected as neighbors wouldn't like the crabby old man, but as president of USA half the country wants him. Couldn't we elect Tom Cruise instead instead of Trump? He does great box office.
