Trump is a lunatic. A deadly serious one. I don’t even want to think about what happens if he gets back into office.

Trump is not getting back into office Shawn Don't bother to try to think about what happens if he ever gets back to office. This is mot 2016 nor is Joe Biden Hillary Clinton.

As 2016 proved. Nothing is impossible.

A raving nut job. Loony tunes.

I don't want to go too deep here. My initial feeling about Trump, waaaaaayyyy back before I even knew much more about him than he was a reality TV host running for President, was I could not get past the way he treated people. I know you have written about this many times. To me, whatever his real beliefs, the way he treats people and expects people to treat him is what makes him so dangerous. Full stop for me.

It also doesn't help that Faux News is covering it like it's the biggest story of the year.

I'm an expert eye roller, and roll my eyes at many things. This evoked a full on laughing fit.

I so wish every single student was required to have a proofs class. Teach them how to assess the probability of a statement's truth. We need a much better educational system.

The problem is that we have no agreed upon set of facts anymore. Just people saying stuff without proof or evidence. HUGE societal problem going forward.

Expand full comment

We have a huge population who are unable to evaluate facts, and people, like Trump, who are rewarded for encouraging this weakness and who use it to their advantage. It's not new - I still remember Jim Jones.

But Jim Jones was never PRESIDENT of the United States!!!

Thank God! I realized how ironic that declaration seems as soon as I wrote it. It's really difficult to not be totally discouraged.

Yes, its not only a A RESULT that matters, or matters somewhat, but a process along the way to the result that's out of its mind.

Sad but accurate, IMHO.

I saw Trump snort lines of Adderall off a men's room counter in Trump tower! Prove me wrong! Look, he's 77 and JACKED UP all the time! That proves me right. And you can't prove otherwise!

Look, Trump is in a position of power because he has a type of charisma that appeals to stupid, gullible people. The GOP created a "base" of those people. And now the GOP as a "party" has to pander to that base.

This all scares me. God forbid he is elected again, however, if he loses that will be very bad as well. The difference will be that he won’t be president. To think this is our “presumptive?” GOP nominee, to have our democracy at stake. On the other hand, the fact that so many people believe these things, is also a very frightening thing. It’s similar to how we were brought up: respect your elders, respect the police, respect doctors, respect the President of the United States, respect the office of the presidency, etc., etc.. My recently deceased dad would go on a tirade about how this country is not like it used to be and that he was towards the end of his life, we were getting up there (upper 60s & early 70s), what about his grandson (30) & great grandchildren? He would get so upset that these politicians would blatantly lie to the American people! Something is in black and white and yet they deny it. It’s a sorry state of affairs. Who’d think that we’d have Trump as the president to begin with, let alone a possible 2nd time? The cocaine “truth” that Trump posted is disgusting and despicable and yet, where is the outrage?

The sad thing is that the GOP probably isn’t going back to anything approaching normal once Trump is gone. Assuming all his doctors, who are the finest doctors, aren’t correct in saying he should live to be 200.

Chris: You left out the amplification of this story by the right wing media. “Credible” journalists like Byron York, Miranda Devine and Mark Theissen have had multiple posts on this story.

Sad but true. I’m feeling a need for a time out on all political news. Like until 2025. Sigh.

The drivel and lies expounded by tfg are so incredibly outrageous! I know it will never happen but I’d like to see Jack Smith sue the pants off trump. Falsely accusing someone of being a drug addict is, I believe, defamation per se, meaning no damages need be proved. Smith’s skin is thick, I know, but mine? Not so much!

I'm speechless, which well is normal lately. But can't help but laugh a little. I mean come on!!!!!!

What if some of the gossip rags, like The National Enquirer, or even the MSM, start publishing lies about Donald Trump, and force Trump to have to answer for them? There has been a lot of effort to figure out how to properly cover Trump...why not do so by playing by his rules? For example, what else were in "his boxes" in Mar a Lago? Could drugs have been in those boxes?

I know, I know, it is a downward spiral, and it would be ugly, however, for a brief moment, it might be fun....

BTW, you indicate that whomever brought the cocaine into the White House was "...a ridiculously ballsy move by whoever did it." My understanding is cocaine users experience, among other things, a sense of over confidence in themselves and their abilities - it may not be ballsy at all, however, just a result of being high...

But wouldn't that further degrade the idea that facts actually exist?

I think it's dangerous to play by Trump's rules because a) he enjoys it and b) he wins.

I agree - after I posted, I thought, Trump would find a way to make whatever was said into a badge of courage...hopefully, Trump continues to lose where it counts - at the ballot box
