This may be the first (and probably last) time Texas Republicans have ever been called "RINOs". Generally speaking, they're somewhere to the right of Attila the Hun.
"Fun fact: Paxton’s wife, Angela, now holds the state Senate district that he once represented in the middle of the last decade! She has not said whether she will recuse herself from the proceedings."
If Melania had been a U.S. Senator, maybe they would have gotten enough votes to convict Trump.
One thing I loved that you did at CNN and WaPo is when you'd interview an expert, like a journalist on the ground covering the story, and got their take on everything. Be cool if you brought that back to So What.
Who becomes AG if he’s impeached? Will there be a special election or does the Governor appoint to complete the term? There may be political jockeying as well as the sudden awakening of GOP ethics.
The governor appoints his replacement if he’s removed. It’s optional for now whether to appoint a caretaker or let the deputy take over during the trial. So far, Abbott hasn’t made any appointments.
Paxton is sketchy enough that I’m totally okay with not worrying about the partisan implications of getting rid of him. If we’re only interested in whether his removal benefits us politically, we’re no better than Trump’s supporters.
I think you miss my point, which is that his removal isn’t simply out of an ethical concern but for a political reason that will do us more harm. My sense is that we’re glad to see the Republicans clean house, but they might be doing it for political gain and we are celebrating what will be to our disadvantage.
Well if he does get impeached, would that push him up the list as a candidate for AG under a Trump 2.0.......

So things can be worse for the good guys after impeachment.
