At this point I am having difficulty sleeping because of this person. The very thought of Trump back in the White House absolutely terrifies me! The Republican Party question for power is risking our democracy and their choice of Trump is criminal. The man is not mentally fit he’s showing obvious signs of dementia, it’s criminal to foist him off on our country. He’s shown us who he is what is wrong with those who favor him? I can only assume that his fans are as full of hate as he is, this is so disturbing! So many voters full of hate driven by this monstrous man.

Geez, take a breath. You need to look at yourself if you think half of the country is full of hate.

lol even republicans are filled with hatred with each other much less the other half of the country. Dude I live in a red state, they even hate RINOs.

He is a symptom, not the disease. Hate is the most primal of emotions, behind fear, and is an effective staff to herd us sheep. But hate is also cultivated and taught. Who are the "teachers"? I'm sad to admit but for the majority of us, that answer is the church. We are so fractionally divided over our beliefs of a higher power, kinder path, better nature that we've created something called "History" to remember why these divisions are so dangerous. Something has to overcome these memories: organized religion, the greatest example of monetizing and weaponizing our greatest gifts and achievements...

Sooooo...Sarah Longwell actually thinks that “When he’s kind of out of the picture … people forget all the chaos that he brings.” Seriously? When is DonOLD ever out of the picture? We cannot scroll through our phones, our laptops, or view the national news on TV for 5 straight minutes without DonOLD showing up. He's ALWAYS in the picture. I'm signing off with a new term I came across this week...

"The Exhausted Majority."

Harris will continue to be out there showing off her likeable personamity and he popular policies on the economy and immigration. She will be out there telling the TRUTH about the economy(falling inflation etc) and immigration.

I have this picture in my head of very short clips of Jan6, Trump smiling at Putin and Kim, dancing with the Saudis, tossing paper towels etc, with the final frame saying NOT AGAIN. Kamala doesn’t even have to appear. Just approve the message. The Lincoln Project are you listening?

Works for me!

You are correct that when DonOLD is not in the headlines, the chaos he generates, the incalculable damage he has caused at every level - targeting every group that isn’t white and male, sowing the seeds of distrust of every element of the government he wants to run - the sheer exhaustion he brings forth —- all of that sinks from memory. As do the incidentals, like 4 indictments, a conviction on 34 felony counts, inciting a riot to overthrow a legitimate election. And when you forget all that, well, gosh, maybe he isn’t so bad.

BUT - we CANNOT FORGET ALL THAT. Why would you even suggest it? So now, I’ll be looking for the column that offers a plan for how Harris can win. Adding it to the growing list - the Trump flip flop column and the 3 pieces on why Harris might win.

Chris, this is just between us. Don't tell anyone else, OK?

You are kind of a big shot. Actually you truly are one of our nations top political analyst.

A lot of people read and listen to what you say and write. Probably people very close to both major candidates.

What in the world would possess you to give any political advice to that man to even remotely consider the possibility of helping him win the election?

It's nice that you prefaced the comments with the fact that you know he will never listen to you. But we have no clue who in his immediate orbit does listen to you. Would you feel just a tad upset if it was later disclosed that somebody was able to convince him to stop talking because of you?

I agree. That was my first thought. “Why are you offering him any suggestions that might in some way help him to (god forbid) be elected?”

I actually just texted former Pres. Donald J. Trump this article and he told me “thanks,‘I’ll just lay low for the next 3 weeks and crush Comrade Kamala.” Thanks Chris, you’ve ruined everything!

It’s not about policies. It’s about authoritarianism. Once you Trump sane washers realize this it will be obvious the man belongs in the dustbin of history. Stop with the “if it wasn’t for his tweets” bullcrap.

I honestly don't understand why you are offering 45's campaign advice to help them win. Not very happy I paid to support you for you to offer campaigns advice. Especially this candidate's campaign. Suggest you review Bob Woodward's snd numerous general's books discussing the danger we face.

This is not about being a cutesy provocateur, this is about our Democracy Chris!

Agree, he probably would benefit, but it would be SO nice if he STFU....

If there really are Americans out there who haven’t yet focused on the pros and cons of the candidates, the MS media and

Social Media are failing to give them the information they need or we are working them too hard as they scramble to make a living despite the trillionares sending rockets to Mars.

I don’t believe the polls. But, if they are actually accurate, Americans are going to be at war with themselves regardless of which candidate wins. So let’s hope for bad polling.

I just don’t think this is the most compelling story right now. Trump is obviously not going to disappear. What’s more compelling, and a story that is getting much less attention it deserves, in my humble opinion, is the effect of the hurricanes on voting. Like, in a race so close in North Carolina, if thousands of people can’t vote or just don’t prioritize voting over. I don’t know, finding water to flush their toilet, what’s the impact? I think that’s a serious issue worthy of attention.

reasons why Trump will not take your advice ...

(1) when attacked he feels compelled to respond (no self-control)

(2) he's too needy for attention (rallies, news interviews etc.)

(3) he actually likes himself and believes that others do too

(4) he thinks of campaigning as a TV reality show and that ratings = success

(5) he doesn't take advice (Mr. Know-it-all, thinks he's the smartest guy in the room)

In arguendo, would the Harris Campaign be better served by flooding the airwaves daily with reminders of the chaos which is Donald Trump - showing his press conferences on Covid, etc., talking about abortion access, maybe showing the parts of Trump’s rallies on windmill and sharks, and shutting up about everything else?

I think either that or just talk about abortion every day all day.

Chris, thanks for the link to Sarah Longwell’s Politico interview. For a serious discussion that shows why Trump will never step off the stage, see Heather Cox Richardson’s latest at https://open.substack.com/pub/heathercoxrichardson/p/october-13-2024?r=3as69&utm_medium=ios.

Jesus, Chris. You spend several posts over the last few months talking about how Kamala needed to to more interviews with neutral or unfriendly mainstream outlets, and now you propose that Trump should just disappear entirely, got media dark, except for a single repetitive press release per day?

Really?

I know it is just a thought experiment, but you can't whine about how Kamala has an obligation to do what is best for a healthy democracy, and then today just throw out there how smart it would be for Trump to disappear.

The media bias towards a double standard towards ignoring or excusing Trump's behavior, and constantly demanding more and perfection from Kamala is maddening -- even as a thought experiment. She has obligations to normalcy and democracy, and the public, and for him -- anything goes baby! Y'all gotta stop it.
