Nope. The most important factor to Trump in selecting personnel for his administration is loyalty to him. Then central casting. Qualified for the job comes where down the list.
So what? I'd bet the vast majority of us got our jobs via networking, referral, and/or posturing/politics, not via meritocracy or being the most qualified for the job.
First, I disagree. Most people I know didn’t get their jobs just because they sucked up to the boss and looked the part. But most of us aren’t being nominated to run the most powerful military in the world, or run the Homeland Security Agency with a quarter of a million employees.
Loyalty is driving Trump's choices, in addition to looks and camera presence. I get it; the President should be able to pick his team. In turn, the People deserve a Senate that uses its advise and consent power; it must not allow recess appointments!
Mitch McConnell said that yesterday. Let's see if there are enough Republicans with a spine to block this power grab. All three of the candidates to succeed McConnell have already given in.
President does not control the Congress (separation of powers). The Senate writes it's own rules, as does the House. Only the Senate determines if/when it recesses. It does not have to give up its "advice and consent" Constitutional duty!
Habba lost EVERY case for Trump—every case! She was horrible, very unprofessional in court; the most important thing to her was how pretty she looked on camera! Why on earth would he reward HER for all the losing???
He learned from the Sean Spicer --> Sarah Sanders --> Stephanie Grisham (who now plays Esther on "Nobody Wants This") --> Kayleigh McEnany progression that spin and shade get much more attention and credibility when delivered by hot women.
Exactly why Senate hearings on these appointees are essential. Trump can pick anyone he wants to be Secretary of Defense, but the person he picks needs to be scrutinized. There is a 100% chance Pete Hegseth will be confirmed, but the public has a right to know who the hell he is and what makes him qualified.
Trump for the most part has picked experienced politicians so far. Now he’s begun to staff his clown car. Selecting Pete Hegseth, a TV Host, as defense secretary, undermines United States security. And, more importantly, the security of the states. Expect blue states to begin to run interference on this. They have the power to reach out to foreign nations and grow their own security forces. And take control of military bases located in their states if they have to.
The conflict that is about to befall the military is going to be a spectacle. An opportunity to mock the idiocy of kicking out women and General not loyal to Trump but loyal to the constitution.
And you think that qualifies him to run the critical defense dept, the largest defense dept in the world with a several billion dollar budget and millions of employees, even tho he has never been an executive of anything?
First, let me thank you for your service to our country. Second, what qualifications would please you for SECDEF? Being a 4-star general? Being a defense contractor?
A high ranking experienced military officer has usually been the choice. Someone with executive experience in running a huge major organization would be nice. A person with some diplomatic experience too, since the head of the DoD has to coordinate and work with the leaders of our allies defense organizations, and has to deal with arms manufacturers etc. A person with some experience dealing with a huge budget would be nice, as the defense budget is the biggest budget in our government with something in the neighborhood of 900 billion a year.
This proposed guy has none of those qualifications.
What qualificatiins would you like to see in the persoon leading the DoD where the security of our nation is the paramount mission?
Anyone and no one can manage an $852B budget and 2.8 million employees. Those are astronomical numbers that require a vast hierarchy. There are just two C-suite expectations of his job: (1) be willing to make impossibly consequential decisions and (2) be willing to accept all responsibility, including throwing himself under the bus for those decisions. Yes, I would assume he has the book smarts, street smarts, ego, and death wish for that role.
He has zero experience running any kind of organization and zero experience in foreign policy amd zero experience in diplomacy. Book smarts will not help him running the largest department of the US government with millions of employees worldwide and the largest budget in the US government with the redpondibility of degending the USA and working with all of our allies. Book smarts and SOME experience in running a large organization, or a couple of years of foreign policy or diplomatic experience MIGHT get someone thru, but this guy has none of those.
He was a mid level officer in the army national guard. Decorated or not, that is not a qualification to lead a dept with a 900 billion dollar annual budget and millions of employees worldwide, and is responsible for the very defense of the USA.
He has zero experience as an executive leading anything! And you want to put him in charge of the largest department in the US government??? Tell us you think defending the US is not important without telling us.
By the Constitution, the role of the Secretary of Defense is held by a civilian. It is, by definition, not the top general or admiral. I applaud the selection of someone outside the industrial military complex. Austin, a former four star general has been a disaster. BTW if you were a hiring manager, you would be breaking federal law by demeaning a veteran.
The DoD has always been held by a civilian. Just like this guy, the experienced and long serving, high ranking, members of the military with vast experience in navigating the defense dept, were former military, but unlike this guy, they had vast experience leading huge operations, and even diplomatic experience. This guy has zero qualifications to run the DoD with its annual budget of 900 billion dollars with millions of personell all around the world.
You are telling us you think the defense of the US, and it's armed forces, is unimportant when you think this guy can be an effective leader of the US Dept of Defense.
Trump has 100 days to reduce the price of eggs. If he undermines US security, marginalizes minorities, and threatens families by his actions, he’s going to create civil discord. It’s not hatred if I see a man bashing my car with a hammer because he and his followers likes dents. Trump isn’t a President for everyone. That’s not going to end well.
What is it with the price of eggs in this community? You know the Right to Farm Act allows you to raise chickens for farm-fresh eggs, right? It's way less expensive than actually buying eggs, assuming you eat a lot of eggs.
Yes! My HOA doesn't like it, but they can't stop me because of the Right to Farm Act. I grease the wheels with the neighbors by giving them free eggs. They probably voted for Harris because they weren't experiencing any egg inflation.
Do you understand that this isn’t a sensible idea for most people? This defines the problem between the two sides of the debate. There’s a lack of coherent thinking required to justify political and ideological positions. It’s every Americans right to declare that the earth is flat. Not everyone will agree. And practical considerations will get in the way of one of those positions. It’s a Walter Mitty world. Take your pick.
The United States is going to descend into clown car chaos. You can see that already. Trump needs to make sensible choices and be President for everyone not just his supporters. If he doesn’t, the results won’t be pretty. He’s begun to make decisions even Republicans question. So it’s not just left wing bias.
Chris has done a great job being an independent non biased reporter so far. But I think he’s going to have a very hard time going forward.
On September 12, 2001 could you ever imagine a universe where we leave $7B of military equipment to the Taliban. From tanks to helicopters....disastrous
That equipment was left to the Afghan government! Remember them? We spent thousands of lives and mulitiple trillions of dollars to stand them up, only to have djt freeze them out while he made a surrender deal with the taliban! He then released 5000 convicted taliban terrorists to show the taliban his good faith in agreeing to and to follow thru in the surrender deal made under their terms. Those 5000 joined in and were instrumental in overthrowing the Afghan government that djt had already had thrown under the bus. And the equipment fell into their hands, needlessly. Thanks to your "hero."
Are you disagreeing with President Biden's statement that he was responsible for the decision for the withdrawal?
August 15, 2021. The Afghan government formally collapses*
August 15, 2021. Biden defends his withdrawal
August 30, 2021. US withdraws from an enclave in Kabul
We should have never-ever let $7B of equipment and munitions fall in the hands of the Taliban. They are having Parades with our equipment 3 years later. This is Austin's legacy as SecDef.
You are refusing to accept the facts of how President Biden was put in an impossible situation. Not only did djt surrender to the taliban, but before leaving office he reduced US forces in Afghanistan to a bare minimum which was not enough to defend our air bases so all had to be closed except one, and that resulted in the chaos of trying to evacuate all those who needed to evacuate. And if Biden had inserted more troops the taliban said that would be a broach of their agreement and they would take it as a provocation to resume attacking US forces and infrastructure, which would have escalated the war and we would still be there today fighting that pointless war at even more cost in US lives snd more trillions of US tax payer dollars.
Yes, President Biden took responsibility for the job he was required to do, because he is a responsible adult and would never blame someone else. He was responsible for doing what was needed with the limited resources he was left by the former guy, whose actions sabatoged any chance of a seemless orderly withdrawl.
You refuse to acknowledge that the surrender deal djt made with the taliban directly led to all that military equipment falling to the taliban!!! Changing the subject does not work, you incorrectly claimed that the military hardware was left for the taliban which is totally incorrect. Try dealing with actual facts.
The US Prez is the Commander in Chief...by definition he is responsible
Considering Putin annexed the Crimea from Ukraine in 2014 under Obama-Biden, Biden doesn't have to be military genius to figure out that Putin may attack again, which he did in 2022 under Biden-Harris.
Um, how is anyone supposed to stop Putin doing what he wants? You make it sound as if that is easy. Are you suggesting that Trump had a leverage over Putin that Obama or Biden didn't? And that's why Putin went dark during the Trump years?
The absurd choice of Hegseth for DOD head is likely a Trump loyalty test for the US Senate. If they confirm a guy like Hegseth, who is so obviously unqualified for that job, then Trump knows...the Senate is his. No questions asked.
There will be chaos every day. He’s unfit! We demand an independent physician do a comprehensive physical, mental and psychological examination of Trump—then the full report be published! We have a right to know about his health, and not by letter from his quack!
This is going to be sooooo entertaining. Musk AND Vivek as “outside of government” consultants to lead "Department of Government Efficiency." Its going to be fun to watch these two "consultants" operate this "department" which is not a department. Anyone want to take the over/under on how long this lasts before it implodes - will it even get off the ground? (SpaceX pun intended) :-)
Really? He just won decisively, some 85-90% of all countries in this great country and he’s a laughingstock? What does that make the person and the administration he defeated? 🤔
Yes, narrow, by the numbers. He barely gained a higher vote total from 2020 even tho the eligable voter base is bigger now. He won each battleground state by 1 or 2 points, which is a narrow victory. The popular vote is still narrowing. His win was decisive, but that does not mean it was a win of high numbered proportion.

2014. Putin annexed Crimea under Obama-Biden
2022. Putin re-attacked Ukraine under Biden-Harris
Trump was the Commander in Chief between the two global security failures
Security failures? lol
How is the US prez responsible for putins unprovoked attacks??
Is this an actual question?
The US Prez is the Commander in Chief...by definition he is responsible
Considering Putin annexed the Crimea from Ukraine in 2014 under Obama-Biden, Biden doesn't have to be military genius to figure out that Putin may attack again, which he did in 2022 under Biden-Harris.

The Commander in Chief is responsible for Ukraine? Are you serious??
The Commander in Chief of the US is responsible for putin engaging in a unprovoked attacks?? You are seriously in denial of reality.
So Trump is going to tell Putin to get out of Ukraine now, right?
Your premise was that Trump would undermine US Security.
My premise, which is a historical fact, is that Trump increased US Security.
So yes, Trump will clean up the mess of Obama-Clinton's 2009 "re-set" policy with Russia which was a historical disaster.
It’s becoming clear that Trump is dismantling the United States. It’s going to be interesting to watch. And see how media commentators report on it.
The "experience" of Marco Rubio, Kristi Noem, and Elissa Stefanik consists of kissing his butt. They ARE the clown car.
I think Noem's shooting dead her family pet, still an innoent puppy, was a big plus in djt"s eyes....
He does hate dogs...
Yes.
And i imagine he thinks she would have no problem shooting peaceful protesters too. Another plus in his mind.

What a hilarious joke! Trump is still the laughingstock!
Really? He just won decisively, some 85-90% of all countries in this great country and he’s a laughingstock? What does that make the person and the administration he defeated? 🤔
His win is not a laughing stock.
His actions and words are a laughing stock. Because he narrowly won does not negate the laughingstock nature of his nominees and suggestions.
Narrow?!?
Grasping at straws now…..
Best of luck to you 😎
By the way go back and look at who raised the Russia issue more
Also the senate intelligence committee, led by Republican, found trouble with Trump's actions
Now to your question They had pictures and evidence of documents at Mar-a-lago and attempts to hide them Trump and his attorneys disobeyed a court order to release them all
The case in NY did not involve the US government Where is the lawfare Thirty three counts Unanimous guilty on all 33 charges
The DC case could be a little tougher but there was enough evidence to indict
A lot of backseat lawyers calling it law school that don't have any legal training That's the real problem
Dutch, I will give you some things to think about
Alberto Gonzales from Wikipedia
Gonzales's tenure as U.S. Attorney General was marked by controversy regarding warrantless surveillance of U.S. citizens and the legal authorization of "enhanced interrogation techniques", later generally acknowledged as constituting torture, in the U.S. government's post-9/11 "War on Terror". Gonzales had also presided over the firings of several U.S. Attorneys who had refused back-channel White House directives to prosecute political enemies, allegedly causing the office of Attorney General to become improperly politicized.[2] Following calls for his removal, Gonzales resigned from the office "in the best interests of the department", on August 27, 2007, effective September 17, 2007.[3][4]

Bush decided not to go forward He wrote in his book he could see another Saturday night massacre coming
Gonzales called Comey a very good attorney, though a little self righteous Mueller didn't go outside of his quidelines and wouldn't investigate Trump other that obstruction He said he wouldn't call Trump guilty or innocent because that was not under his permissions You cannot indict a sitting president He was selected twice to head the FBI
Both of these guys were very highly regarded justice people and both received overwhelming confirmations By the way they are also both Republicans
Who am I going to believe THE EXPERTS
Dutch can I have some of your drugs I'm a retired recruiter and most of these picks would not even be considered This is not political but experience driven
By the way I think Susie Wile is a good pick But she won't be able to to keep the clown car out of the WH I give her six months
Habba actually might not be a bad choice She really has very little influence in that position and did a good job(even though it was mostly lies) in front of the cameras in the trials She couldn't be any worse that his other previous press secretaries

Time to roll out the "Im working for Donald Trump t-shirts" A reference to "Im working for Mel Brooks" Blazing Saddle line.. This might be an even bigger farce that that movie
Matt Gaetz must be the exception that proves the rule then. No way Butthead should be the central casting image for AG!!
