The Morning: The last mainstream media election?

My conversation with Taylor Lorenz.

On Thursday afternoon, I did something really cool and fun. For an hour,

of (and formerly of the New York Times and the Washington Post) and I talked about the media and the election.

Our working theory is that the 2024 campaign signals the end of the pervasive influence of the mainstream media — that its longtime role as gatekeeper of information and analysis has effectively ended.

It was part of the Substack Election Dialogues series. (You can check out all the other convos here.)

For me, it was a really affirming conversation about where [waves hands around] all of this is headed. The media is in the mist of a massive evolution — and I truly believe Substack (and newsletters like Taylor’s and mine) are on the leading edge of it.

I hope you spend some time listening to our chat. I think you will enjoy it.

Thank you
