The Morning: The stunning power of Elon Musk

An unelected power broker.

Elon Musk got 0 votes for president in 2024. Or for any other office. And yet, Musk just single-handedly killed a multi-billion dollar plan to fund the federal government for three months.

Check out this from Kentucky Rep. Andy Barr:

And Musk latched on to this idea — quote-tweeting the Barr quote (wheels within wheels!):

The Washington Post headline tells the story:

Pause for a second. Consider this. Elon Musk is:

  • The richest man in the world

  • The owner of the political town square

  • An informal but extremely powerful advisor to the incoming president

  • Unelected (I know I said this before but it’s really important)

Like, that should be eye-opening.

Musk has ALL the power of an elected official, without any of the responsibilities. He is among the most powerful people in the country. And the world.

Whether you agree or disagree with Musk’s views, the fact that he has the power and influence he does should raise questions. Lots of them.
