A real shame!! Jim was a truth teller we could count on! CNN is really sucking. They used to be a reliable source of news …..sadly they are now just Trump suck-ups!!
CNN bleeding support, including mine. For the most part, hosts are not asking hard questions, thereby normalizing what is happening. The US is in trouble.
I am done with CNN!! Since when does a journalist have to kiss the ring of the current President. I am sick and tired of hosts/moderators cave to voices like Scott Jennings et al several times a day because he talks louder and is more condescending. Jim was the best! I hope he lands in an environment where his voice can be heard.
I have not even turned on CNN in at least a year, there are much more interesting, provocative, and honest places from which to derive information. Jim Acosta was brilliant in so many press events with Donald J TrumpMusk, he asked the questions that many of us wanted answered by a lying, transactional old man with a chip on his shoulder and a hatred for so many Americans. Jim Acosta has probably evaluated where he can be the most effective(I suspect independent journalism) and he’ll do splendidly whatever he chooses. CNwho makes itself look meaningless and capitulate by moves like this one, it won’t help its bottom line.
It is very sad when major news organizations behave like they have to keep any president happy. I wonder what great journalism schools are telling their students about this behavior by cnn and other news organizations?
Sorry to see Acosta leave but understand perfectly. As much as I enjoy CNN (and still watching it, via YouTube clips, admittedly), I'm sorry to see it go the way of WaPo, ABC and other news sources. I realize it's a business decision but it seems as if bullying from a high profile politicians still works. Sad. Would love to hear your take on (or a deeper dive into) journalistic integrity...or if it even exists any longer. Keep up the good fight, Chris!
I stopped watching CNN ever since they condoned Trump's idea of acquiring Greenland, Canada, and Panama, calling them "expansions" similar to the Louisiana Purchase. That with the Scott Jennings promotion was the last straw. Until CNN comes to their senses, which they won't, I will never turn it on again.
Scott Jennings is NOT a journalist; he is a right wing hack that goes down to Mar-a-Lago on a regular basis to kiss the ring. If I was Jim Acosta I would be steaming also; and to NOT have access to whatever their optimum time slots are (that Jennings has) had to stick in his craw. None of the so-called News organizations including ABC, CNN, CBS or the NBC franchise are newsworthy anymore. I have resorted to Substack for my news now which seems weird but I am just starting to get used to in place of X/twitter.
We have signed off of legacy media and saw a shift with CNN when Zucker was fired. Jim Acosta is a great journalist, asking tough questions and follow ups. It’s sad that this is how corporate media has decided to do, bending to MAGA and Trump. Cable news is going down the toilet, news consumption is changing, this is one reason why. We are seniors who grew up with watching Walter Cronkite with our parents, reading newspapers, etc.. we now follow independent journalism, listen to podcasts and keep informed but not following it all down rabbit holes that we did in Trumps first term.
I have mostly left both MSNBC and CNN and now play BBC World News when I have a bit of free time from your Substack and all of the others as well as all of the Podcasts I subscribe.
That said, I do still watch Kasie Hunt's show as well as Nicolle Wallace's show. But that is about it.
That said, it's too bad that Jim Acosta is out at CNN. He was a great source of information and insight.
I'm with you Jeff. Here in NYC BBC World News is on Spectrum channel 209. Watching it instead of MSNBC or CNN, except I do watch Nicole and Ari Melber sometimes. I appreciate their sincerity.
I met Jim Acosta in 2019 at a meeting of the Atlanta Press Club. He had just released his book entitled “Enemy of the People: A Dangerous Time to Tell the Truth in America,” and I have an autographed copy. The book excoriates Trump. It was a dangerous time to tell the truth then. It’s even more dangerous now because the major news organizations, with the possible exception of The NYT, are unwilling to back their reporters who dare to ask the tough questions and to expose the truth. No reports from the CDC (e.g., Covid surging again or people dying from bird flu), no reports from the FDA (e.g., recalls of products due to salmonella or listeria infections), and now fewer reporters to hold the Trump administration to account. Let’s all watch Fox News, shall we? 😏
Thanks for the update. Always enjoyed Jim’s spots on CNN and it is a shame that things have taken this turn. I think everyone needs to pay attention to what is happening here with news networks.
I am old enough to tell you that CNN has been my background music since they went on the air. Yes, I'm that old. The powers that be made their preferences clear by getting rid of Jim. He was one of the best. Other than AC 360, I no longer watch it. Will not subscribe to their new news on line. If they have lost me, they might as well pull the plug entirely. I feel so bad for the other journalists there.

One more spineless organization obeying in advance. Trump called Acosta a rude terrible person. He musta been looking in the mirror.
Exactly Dawn. Trump’s willingness to demean anyone from his pulpit of power is unprecedented … his sensitivity to the slightest rebuke is as well.
CNwho?

The repulsive capitulation and fealty to Trump from major media sources marches on.
This is how autocracies take hold.

Then, we should ask ourselves WHY?
Where are we headed as a country??
Chris - Thanks for this sad update and for sharing your perspective.

I hate this. I hope he finds an independent outlet to report from.
