Chris, my background is business, not politics. What surprises me about Musk’s involvement with the administration is the extent to which he can be an absent CEO from multiple companies for weeks on end. You know all those Twitter employees that Musk found to be unnecessary? How is he different? It makes me wonder if he is really a “deal” guy who puts together capital to finance businesses more than a visionary engineer. Im not making a comment about DOGE, just seeing a mystery surrounding its founder.

According to a new Gallup poll, Trump has a 45% approval rating, which is the worst mid-February rating for a newly inaugurated president since 1953, except...Trump I, who was at 40%!

This poll is meaningless to me: complete and unequivocal adoration from his base and pretty much the exact opposite from those who oppose him. Let's wait a bit before passing too much judgement. Once all of the federal firings, tariffs, and god only knows what else begin to reshape the landscape to the point that real people are being really hurt, THEN we will begin to get an accurate take on how America feels about numero 47. I suspect that no matter how much his policies hurt his base, it will not affect their love for him one bit. Stockholm Syndrome

Sorry I am so late in responding. I frankly am not a fan of polls, but Gallup is a respected name among pollsters and has been that way for decades. The fact that Trump has <50% in this poll a month after he was inaugurated (during the "honeymoon" period) is something that should be noted.

Yes that 36% that adore him even if he shoots someone on 5th Avenue will always adore him. However, the other 64% will decide what will eventually happen in this drama. As Trump would say, stay tuned!

Hope you're right. I am a born pessimist. I have zero hope that this country will survive the current administration. Imagine what the landscape will look like in a year after what's happened in only 1 month.

I get the pessimism and I feel some myself. But last night I watched Rachel Maddow, and she showed a lot of polls showing Trump and his policies being somewhat unpopular. Also a few town halls in GOP districts where constituents are unhappy with the DOGGIE-cuts in spending. So there is hope, and I hope we all hang in there and look for the silver linings, the columns written by many who are on our side, and especially the people who do not want health care cut, are sick of seeing airplanes crash every other day, are scared of measles being spread, and even are unhappy with egg prices. I think the discontent will grow over time, maybe slowly but we'll get there.

He stole the election in plain sight and no one’s paying attention to it.

Chris, my memory is that I asked *why* character stopped mattering, not when. Either way I was flattered to know the question stuck with you. Thank you again for everything you do.

Chris - I know you like to do podcasts and interviews, but some of us get most of our information in print form and not oral presentations. So I urge to, as difficult as it might be, publish transcripts of podcasts and interviews for those of us who prefer to read our news rather than listen to it. John Isaacs

Thank you Chris. Now I see it. But it is one of many widgets that have great meaning but are not always clear. You might consider notifying readers each time about transcripts in a more visible way.

Warning for anybody not hard left; Political Wire's comment section is a true cesspool of woke insanity.

Trouble with _both_ legacy & the new Quality-Control-Free media is: Loquacity. Sometimes (often) there is just nothing major to comment on. For commentators that does not seem to be a problem. Brings to mind the adage 'To a man with a hammer, everything looks like a nail.'

Efforts to rid the government of waste, fraud, and abuse are a common, somewhat periodic theme. Different approaches, same 'objective'.

The danger for commentators is myopia - They can be busy commenting on so many issues, sort-of issues, and non-issues that the distinctions between Important, interesting and idiocy (President or commentator) are lost, and there is just this annoying noise .....
