This has grown tiresome. I was 39 in 1989 when I had a full-term stillborn daughter. To this day, I have to stop and think whether my son was born in 1990 or 1991, simply because that was such a stressful time that my brain circuits were blown to pieces.
I could go on and on, but nothing I've seen about Biden's supposed memory problems gives me cause for concern. After you've lived FOR DECADES, perhaps you can be forgiven for not remembering every freakin' date. A lot of it does blend together.
I am so sorry for your loss…and, I totally agree! Also wasn’t the interview on Oct 7 or 8th , 2023.. and, I am 66… and have a couple/ few traumatic events and dates seared in my memory… but have to “ do the memory math” sometimes as you mentioned…to place other events in the correct place in my personal timeline of ( so many) life events, etc.❤️. @Rebecca Wright
Loss trauma isn't a factor for me, but I've had lapses like that re the exact date my mom or dad died. I check notes or text a sibling to be sure of things. And I'm 'only' 67.
I agree, it’s all partisan like everything else has become. Truthfully, I am just so disgusted with all of this that it is making my blood boil. I don’t believe this report is as damning as the right wants it be but it does show that Biden has some recall issues. I am nearly 68 and have had recall issues for quite awhile already, it happens. Does it mean that Biden can’t run the country? No, not in my opinion. Would we be better with a younger candidate, yes, again in my opinion. Yet, we do not need to tear him apart in order to “get points”. Trump is only a few years younger and has major issues besides recalling dates, or having senior moments.
Trump took classified documents from the White House. Lied about having them, only gave them up after being subpoenaed and then lied that he had given them all over when he hadn't. Biden, to the best of my knowledge, was compliant in returning documents after it came to his attention and then forgot a few things. Big effing difference.
My husband - a trained engineer - has been useless with numbers his entire life. He can never remember stuff like what year he was born, how old I was on my last birthday, how old his now-adult children are, etc. It took him six months to memorize his very easy cellphone number. It's just not the way his brain works.
Getting older doesn't necessarily mean losing your marbles. Biden has lived a long life filled with lots of stuff. I'll take experience over ignorance every time. Time to move on.
The media is doing a repeat of MAGA and indicted President Trump talking points similar to Jim Comey when he decided to investigate Clinton. The media has a low bar for indicted president Trump.
You know I think we all forget important and not so important dates. I know my mom past away in the early 90s but heck if I remember the exact date. I know it is around November 11, or just before because I remember my Dad would get drunk on that day as a WWII veteran and my mom would cry all of that day. So I thought here passing away close to that date was a spite for my dad. I know that my oldest brother who was like a father to me past away during the early morning of August 29th. I do not remember the exact year and the reason I remember the exact date is because it coincides with our wedding anniversary. And can go on and on with being forgetfull and not remembering important event dates So what. I am still very lucid and productive.
In the past 20 or so years I've lost both parents, both in-laws, and an older brother. The only one I could even approximate is Dad, who passed about two weeks before my birthday. No clue on the day or the year. Yet for all five I could recite their birthdays without pausing to think about it. Why? At least for me it's because death happens once, and it's sad enough on its own. Birthdays were celebrated, and they have many happy memories for me. We're all different. Biden isn't great with remembering specific dates either - no big whoop for me. Trump thought a photo of E. Jean Carroll was his wife. Why is no one countering with that tid-bit?
My own educated guess is that the American people saw what they saw and heard what they heard on Thursday during the SOTU address. The American people also know that Biden is old and DECENT and Trump is also old and facing 91 criminal indictments. The American people are not going to be swayed by the talking and writing heads about Biden's age. They will believe their eyes and ears over the partisan talking and heads.
The hearing is pretty vanilla as far as I’m concerned. The transcript is clear: Biden was misjudged on memory. The hearing is just a Trump vs Biden charade IMO
Everyone who has ever had an interview with an attorney has been instructed on the use of “I don’t remember” …Hur knows this perfectly well, and used his report as an opportunity to rip on President Biden. He likely has a nice offer from Donald J Trump should Trump prevail in 2024.
Special Counsel ''Dr'' Hur wants another Job in a Trump Presidency.Hence he wants to determine the "state of mind and the mental status" of Biden. The problem is, Trump is going to lose in November and there will never be another Trump Presidency.
The issue of age may be a concern, but it will not be determinative in the final vote count. The most fresh meat is where the bond money Trump posted come from? Chubb has ties to Russia. Bill Krystol says Trump can be bought? Of course he can, but not by Russia in an election year. You should look into this. And then there’s the $450MM he’ll need coming up? That source will also be topical. Robert Hur just seized a chance to editorialize his report, none of it shows Biden tried to hide, purloin, disclose, or sell the documents. I’ll bet Smith will ask about all of that very soon at trial (the attempt to delay will be denied because the matter is not related to presidential immunity)
I'll be interested in how Hur’s testimony pans out, but my impression of his report is different. It seems to me Republicans should tear him up for not charging Biden. If Hur were Jim Jordan, he would just take it to a grand jury, right? I mean if he were all-in on Trump. If he wanted to, he could say, ”There is enough evidence to take to a grand jury, and I will let them decide on Biden's mental capabilities.” But he didn't do that.
This hearing brought the Trump document case to the top of mind. It was an own goal by the GOP.
Every hearing will bring up a comparison to trump. If the talk about Hunter that will be compared to Ivanka and Jared. If they talk about immunity it will bring up that no one is denying Jan 6. If they talk about how unfair the Stormy Daniels case is they will be reminding voters that he had sex with a porn star ….
Bring it on Republicans…you create the negative ads for the Biden campaign every time you hold a hearing.
Is there anyone who likes listening to Jim Jordan?
My wife and I had the same challenging time when trying to remember exactly what year our parents my sister and her bother died.
The same discussion trying to remember most events...."wasn't it 1988?...or was it 1989?' "My dad died near Christmas, and I think it was 2008. Is that right?"
Of course, all of the "special counsels" (at least since the attacks on Bill Clinton) have been Republicans with various degrees of partisanship. Democrats install Republicans (especially if a Democrat is being investigated) because they obsess over the appearance of fairness.
Republicans install Republicans as special counsels because they want to be assured they get the result they favor and they don't give a shit about "appearances" or especially "fairness".
They want to PROTECT Republicans and destroy Democrats , no matter WHAT they have to do.
Robert Hur's report was a (mostly) a partisan screed that handed the Republicans exactly what they wanted.
As I read this I had two thoughts. One, we as a society are more willing to talk about dementia and Alzheimer's disease. It is awful and there are not many who have not known at least one person who has dealt with this terrible disease. So there may be some projection going on.
Which then led me to think about the last years of Ronald Reagan and what would ultimately be his defense in Iran Contra.

This is a very fair and, I think, accurate assessment Elaine.

Biden, to the best of my knowledge, was compliant in returning documents after it came to his attention and then forgot a few things. Big effing difference.
That's easy: Hur is a villain.
A vile, partisan villain.
My husband - a trained engineer - has been useless with numbers his entire life. He can never remember stuff like what year he was born, how old I was on my last birthday, how old his now-adult children are, etc. It took him six months to memorize his very easy cellphone number. The media is doing a repeat of MAGA and indicted President Trump talking points similar to Jim Comey when he decided to investigate Clinton. The media has a low bar for indicted president Trump.
And in this hearing we heard how many times Trump says he didn’t remember.
And Biden behavior, including sitting over two days for interviews with the special prosecutor, is contrasted with Trumps.
In other words the media can look at this waste of time hearing through a very different lens.
My take away is that I much prefer Biden to Trump. The Republicans are just plain mean.
You know I think we all forget important and not so important dates. I know my mom past away in the early 90s but heck if I remember the exact date. Yes! Was thinking that too re: Hur’s ongoing support of Trump!!!
The issue of age may be a concern, but it will not be determinative in the final vote count. The most fresh meat is where the bond money Trump posted come from? Chubb has ties to Russia.
