I think everyone is just numb to the craziness at this point. The people who hate Trump know he's crazy and insane and the people who love Trump will just go triggered snowflake and celebrate an owning of the libs.
The dude spent last Thanksgiving meeting with white supremacists and here we are.
EDIT: I do think we need to start hounding Republicans who endorsed him and force him to answer for this stuff. And don't let them off with I didn't see it. That to me should be the bigger story, the moral cowardice.
Also, Chris, checking Twitter while on vacation, we need an intervention.
I try not to check work e-mail when I'm on vacation, but it's so tempting. I went to Kansas City for a three-day weekend and turned off my phone and it was kind of liberating.
Trump should give the Presidential Medal of Freedom to every @#$%#@#@!! over-educated, under-intelligent, otherwise-unemployable asswipe in the Press Corpse for their 24/7/365 work in "normalizing" him and making the race "Don vs Joe" instead of "Joe vs The End of the Republic."
Just a "for instance" - the Nation's Finest Fishwrap, aka the New York Times, thought it was far more "newsworthy" to run a story about Trump making a dodgy pardon three years ago, than an actual "news story" about Joe Biden's behind-the-scenes work to convince Nitwityahoo to agree to a ceasefire and for getting hostages released thes past four days. Yeah, "We can't show any favoritism by reporting things the president actually does when carrying out the duties of his office."
I'll almost be happy to see the surprised look on all those trust fund babies when they're staring out through the barbed wire at the FEMA camp El Caudillo Del Mar A Lardo has planned for them.
The Mainstream Media - the New York Times most especially - haven't got the brains to find their asses with both hands on a clear day with a two hour advance notice.
It's terrifying how many people support this clown, and we have a lot of them here in Iowa--which used to be a purple state. I've been hired to be a vote counter (and not a participant!) at the upcoming GOP caucus, so I'll get to see for myself which of my neighbors are part of the cult. I can't wait to hear their reasons for supporting him:
Point of correction. It is not correct to assert that Donald Trump is the ''front runner'' to be the next President. He is not.
You probably want to say the front runner to be the Republican nominee BUT not the President. No vote has even been cast yet. Biden IS the current President of the United States and he is going to continue to be after the election in 2024. Can we please talk about how the President is handling the most contentious issue of the day [Biden's admirable role in securing the release of hostages and the pause in the war] instead of Trump, Trump and Trump and Trump again
Thanks, Chris, for this spot-on editorial. It seems as though the US is sleepwalking into a disaster in 2024. Democrats seem to be unable to successfully message why their candidate, albeit old, has done a very good job under the circumstances and why, more importantly, the alternative would be, and has already been bad for the country. Non-MAGA Republicans seem unwilling or unable to get off the horse that has brought them this far, even if the country's future may depend upon it. And many independents seem indifferent to the danger. (I don't mention the actual MAGA cult followers as I think that history has shown that literally nothing will change their minds, as Trump himself boasted back in 2016). Is there anything that can be done in the next 12 months to change this dangerous trajectory that we appear to be on?
I would add to this that “this is the man that the GOP is promoting and following. That GOP congress people take orders from. If you don’t like what Tuberville is doing to our national security, it’s because of this guy. If you don’t like that congress has stymied government, it is because of this guy.”
There is an entire political party beholden and supporting this fascist.
My bumper sticker is VOTE BLUE FOR FREEDOM.
The GOP must be linked to this guy and needs to go down with him.
As much as I like "My bumper sticker is VOTE BLUE FOR FREEDOM."
I fully appreciate your sentiments, but it seems to be lacking in its messaging...the term "freedom" is amorphous because people have personal views of the meaning of freedom.
To some Trumpers, freedom is being able to carry an unregistered gun anywhere at anytime. (I'm awaiting the lawsuit against those churches and hospitals having signs of a handgun with a circle and slash --- thus denying 2nd Amendment rights.)
To me, freedom is having some certainty that an obvious crackpot being snitty over some issue in the "public square" won't be able to draw a weapon and "...Terrorize y'all's neighborhood."
We are all for freedom, but in oh so different ways.
You’re in the same boat as many others in your profession, who still see value there in terms of what you read? That seems to be the rationale of many writers. I never got into it. Didn’t follow people on the platform. That did make it easy to leave.
I agree that “average” Americans are completely tuned out and have no clue who Willis, James and Engoran are, or how many simultaneous court cases are in play. Nor is MSM bringing the topic(s) to the average persons attention. But .... there are scads of us Substacker’s who ARE aware. We read your posts, Joyce Vance’s posts about his legal issues, Heather Cox-Richardson’s well researched impeccably sourced posts, Steve Beschloss, and even Steve Schmidt’s posts (although I’m still in disbelief he’s working on the Phillips campaign). There are SO many great writers here. My point is, those of us who know MUST get the word out and help wake people up to the madness. As often as possible. I try to do my bit. That’s for sure. Start sharing these blogs on your Social Media accounts. You never know who you will reach.
It all boils down to votes. The kool-aid clan will ALL vote, so the only way to prevent the oncoming dictatorship and end of democracy as we know it is if everyone else casts their vote. And therein lies the problem: the media can't stop blabbing about Biden's age, which doesn't do him any favors with regards to younger voters. The media should be shouting nonstop from the rooftop Joe's successes. Democracy will end in the USA simply because good people will do nothing. People need to be reminded of how fragile our democracy is.
The sad fact is that 35-40% of the population finds nothing wrong with this type of stream-of-thought psycho-babble. Trump is speaking to the dark side of the electorate and has found a willing audience that agrees with his dystopian "Hunger Games" viewpoint. As such, he is but the metaphorical lightning rod of this dark storm of hate and resentment that began with Reagan.
It's a sad comment on the voters in this country, and the media which informs said voters, but I think that most people don't care. In a normal, healthy democracy, Trump's misdeeds leading up to the 2016 election would have eliminated him from consideration. Everything that has happened since should have removed even the slightest doubt that the man should never be allowed near 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue ever again, yet he is starting to open up a lead in the polls. Yes, I know that we are almost a year out from the election but to be blunt, there is nothing that has happened that would suggest that this trend will reverse itself. Are voters suddenly going to get better informed? Is Fox News suddenly going to stop lying?
Like Steve Schmidt of The Warning says: it’s the duo of ignorance and indifference in the electorate that will take this country straight to the bottom and ruin for generations the promise and values of the United States of America.
Welcome back, Chris. Sounds like you had a great time in Portugal, what an experience for your son. I am so disgusted by all of this. I am sure many do not follow as closely as we seem to do here, however, we all knew this going back to 2015 (or before!). How anyone could have voted for him to begin with just boggles my mind. Here we are again and just no bottom. When you think it can’t get worse, it does. Very scary days ahead.
We are a nation of sheeple, more concerned with "personal celebrity" (selfies on Facebook and other social media) in the immediate now.
Question for Chris --- Did you notice if the Portuguese ("Port-a-gee" - in my Spanish grandmother's pronunciation) take as many selfies with things (buildings, art work, architecture, gardens) as Americans have become addicted to?
I was at the Chicago Museum of Art on Veteran's Day weekend and people waited for an up-close space to selfie themselves with paintings of Van Gogh, Monet, Manet, and the stain glass panels by Chagall, then walked away for their next "shot."
Even my 30-something daughter, who is an elder-stateswoman selfier, thought it was bizarre to not stand and contemplate the art work itself.
I cannot believe that in a country of 300+ million people, we do not have 2 middle of the road candidates; male or female, 40-60 years old, who could unite our country. Am I asking too much?
I think everyone is just numb to the craziness at this point. The people who hate Trump know he's crazy and insane and the people who love Trump will just go triggered snowflake and celebrate an owning of the libs.

I know, Sam. I am addicted. I admit it.

People who don’t sleep become manic.

Love this. Made my day.
Wow, TCinLA! You hit the nail on the head.
Nitwityahoo.....good one!

I completely agree with you Dr.Ibrahim!
Joe Biden’s years of experience have helped keep things in focus re: Hostage release and extending the cease fire.
Well said.

Good idea, Andy. I have lived here for over 20 years. More and more Americans are coming this way!
I’m glad you’re back and writing.
I would add to this that “this is the man that the GOP is promoting and following. That GOP congress people take orders from. How about "VOTE BLUE TO ENSURE SANITY PREVAILS."
I would actually like it as “VOTE BLUE TO ENSURE DEMOCRACY PREVAILS”.
You are corrrct. Freedom is amorphous and wanting it is universal. BLUE should claim it. Like MAGA tries to claim patriotism.
The new BFF is BLUE FOR FREEDOM.
Here’s where to get the stickers
https://thecommunety.etsy.com
BTW the biggest word is FOR.
Blue is for many things. The Red team is the ANTI party.
It’s FOR vs. ANTI , BLUE vs. RED
Me likey!!!
About this time next year, maybe we all should head to Portugal and never return.
I deactivated my Twitter account. I don’t EVER want to be associated with that cesspool ever again. You should cut the cord Chris.
It's hard for me. has been a part of my professional workday for, like, 15 years.
It’s a cesspool of sewage and hate amplified by Elon Musk. It’s just not worth it.

Glad to hear you share posts elsewhere. I wasn’t precisely talking to you though.
