They mostly looked like two kids squabbling over who would get the last piece of pie—the rest of which is being gobbled up by Daddy.

Haley and De Santis are ankle biters. They are absolutely inconsequential in the massive behemoth that is the Trump candidacy. Chris is right that it is likely the last debate that we’ll hear in this election..there is virtually no way that Donald J Trump’s handlers allow him to get on a stage with President Joe Biden. Trump is obviously becoming mere and more cognitively compromised…..such a debate would finish him.

I live for political debates. I was away for the prior debate in December, DVRed it and watched the whole thing when I came back.

I skipped this one and watched a movie from the 1950s instead. Why do I want to watch two people battling to lose by 30 points in Iowa?

During the Iowa State bowl game on ESPN, DeSantis and Haley's PACs both ran ads...attacking the other. Nothing about the frontrunner. Such a baffling strategy.

If you arrive at your job each day fearing for your job, you will accomplish nothing. That, in a nutshell, is the state of politics in this country on the federal, state and local level. The same is true of campaigns. None of these candidates express anything remotely resembling an idea or a thought that would benefit the American people. Instead, they campaign each day fearing for the day their campaign will end.

As a former R, I am so dead inside watching the biggest loser in the race walk away with it unchallenged. Its not even Nikki or tiny Ds fault, it is the fact the weakest party in political history just rolled over for the Trumpists. While his Jonestown style hold on the faithful is such a mystery to me, the weakness of the party isnt. The patheticness of it all is shown by the only legit challenge being led by a guy who is most notable for being an early Trump adopter.

I watched the whole thing - and you nailed it here in <4 minutes. Wish I could go back in time and reclaim my Wednesday night!

Their refusal to say anything bad about their Orange leader defines them (and their cowardice).

You frequently ask what people like/don't like about this substack. I may be in the minority, but I would MUCH rather read your analysis in a post than watch a video. Nothing against your presentation -- it's just so much faster and more efficient to read, although I realize a written product may take a little longer to create.

agree entirely -- too long and DeSantis was just a pinch better. Haley should have been wearing a red dress - not pale pink. It was a night for a strong woman statement.
