The Republican "Base" are now enemies of democracy. I am constantly shocked by the way people I would have once told you were solid, serious, engaged individuals with whom I disagreed on how things should be done but also respected as people of integrity and intelligence, who have descended into this insanity. They really are the frogs in the pot set at simmer, who got boiled without realizing it. The water in the pot being the propaganda and fantasy pushed by Limbaugh and then Faux Snooze.
But the thing that really bothers me is that they had to essentially be ready to believe the bullshit to begin with, which means in too many cases, they were actually scumballs when I thought otherwise.
Yeah, I’ve been thinking about the boiling of congressional Republican frogs, too. It’s hard to argue capital gains tax cuts with someone denouncing you as a far left pedophile who wants to destroy the country.
Given everything we know about Trump — and everything he has said about 2020 — I struggle to see how he ever leaves either the primary or the general election race if he loses.
It’s Trump or bust. He said Cruz cheated him in Iowa in 2016. The GOP is owned by him because they accepted and went along with the stolen election lie. They’ll continue to be owned by him because it’s too late to come out, even en masse, and say he lost.
Their symbol going forward will no longer be an elephant. It will be Trump overturning a checkers board.
I just realized this morning listening to a podcast that Trump will likely soon be a, more or less, convicted rapist. If anyone thinks that’s a bridge too far for his sycophants, I’d like to sell them that bridge.
The country is heading for a constitutional crisis. I would be stunned if enough republicans stood up to Trump and tossed him to the curb. Win or lose, the country will be where I would never have thought the United States of America could ever be. It baffles me how so many people can stand by him and think he is God.
This has been the essential tension between Trumpism and our society based on norms, customs, laws etc.
How does it handle someone who's response to every request is "Make Me".

This is in yesterday’s Atlantic talking about the Trump stranglehold.

Until enough Republicans are willing to stand up and repudiate the bully, he will continue to own them.
And it's not going to happen.

Agreed completely. We have arrived at a situation where one party believes that only it can ever win elections.
