I don't know to what end you want to continue to harp on Biden's age. I believe your audience and the American people already know that Biden and Trump are both old politicians. Now, while you continue to write about Biden's age, you would hopefully also write about his numerous and laudable achievements in the spirit of unbiased and independent journalism. Also, I know Trump is way more controversial and attention seeking than Biden but make the effort to give both of them equal time and space in your daily commentaries

I agree about Biden’s age. The harping about his age gets boring and OLD. Everyone knows he’s 82. Write about Biden’s accomplishments and how his policies are affecting regular people in positive ways.

I respectfully disagree. I don't need Chris or anyone to feed me just news I find pleasing. He isn't supposed to be a cheerleader. I know it's difficult for some to hear, but Biden's age is a major issue in the campaign. Same is true re Hunter. You may understandably think both issues are minor, especially given Biden's very successful first term. I will vote for Joe if he doesn't drop out. But it is undeniable (or should be) that these issues are are weight around Joe's neck in light of numerous polls showing Trump to be in dead heat despite his multiple indictments and manifest incompetence. My experience is consistent with the polls. Most people I speak to ,including people close to Biden's age, view a second term as problematic.

Great introduction! I found your journalism in 2020. It was, and continues to be, broadbased. A breath of fresh air. I really enjoy all your stories. Especially family/life based. I think its good to show balance in both. Keep up good work! Thanks for everything!

Thanks for sharing your goals and plans, Chris. As far as content, I would enjoy some pieces featuring exchanges with colleagues of yours- something similar to what Brett Stephens and Gail Collins do. To anyone "sampling" the site, I can recommend it highly. Chris regularly turns out thought-provoking and timely content, and unlike some , he does so with good humor. I also find the discussion in the comments section to be interesting and respectful.

I also think exchanges with colleagues is a good idea, similar to the exchanges that occur on The Bulwark between Charlie Sikes, Mona Charin, Tim Miller and Jonathan V Last ...etc

Keep up the good work! Glad to have found you on substack. I always appreciated your analysis on CNN. I came here for your political analysis and insight, but I’ve been finding your candid feelings on non-political issues as important as your political knowledge and opinions. Thank you for sharing these personal postings with us!

Continue the good work and I especially love any article outlining the "insert large number" craziest/wackiest things Trump said in a speech or interview - the 2024 campaign should have a few more opportunities for those gems. Maybe you could add some political topic deep dives into the blog? Every few weeks do a focus on a key topic in the American political debate; why it matters, who is talking (or not talking) about it, and where it might make a difference going forward? Topics like climate change, crime, the economy, health care, racial tensions, urban vs rural, technology, generational viewpoints, etc would be great to discuss as a community after getting your views and commentary.

Thanks for some great insight and writing! I'm proud to be a subscriber. As you say, many of your columns regard Trump and the presidential election, which is appropriate. For other topics, how about a sort of long-term series on one (or more) political figure in each state. There's high-profile ones such as Sen. Tuberville for Alabama and non-so-high-profile ones such as Mike Crapo (from my state, Idaho).

Welcome to the new subscribers. It’s a nice comfortable place to interact with others and you have a nice balance of material. I came to follow you a bit before you went to CNN and have enjoyed your writing and can “hear” you in your writing. I enjoy your analysis of the various issues that we are now facing as a country. Also, enjoy hearing about some of the personal issues you deal with.

Thanks for all you do!

Chris, I found you on the WaPo during the Obama campaign and have thoroughly enjoyed your commentary ever since. It's more and more difficult to make sense of what is going on these days and I enjoy the thought you put into "behind the story" and how you see yourself fitting into the world -- that personal viewpoint resonates with these in such crazy times. You and David Leonhardt over at the NYT help me keep my sanity!

Chris, I’ve always enjoyed your writing and broadcast journalism. I find it engaging and soothing, particularly when you talk about your struggles and your kids. It’s obvious your writing comes from the heart. In addition to your sardonic wit, I find the writing about your travels and your occasional snapshots, especially the ones from Marin, super cool. Time for me to step up and become a subscriber! But you have to let us now when you’re coming back out to the bay area! We got some stories for you! Lou
