I wanted to thank you for this video talk taking our questions. It's definitely a reckoning for the Democratic party, as the Washington Post noted - https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/11/06/kamala-harris-loses-presidential-election/ - although Bernie Sanders is saying that it's not the left, but the party itself - https://www.abc3340.com/news/nation-world/bernie-sanders-blasts-democratic-party-after-trump-win-abandoned-working-class-people - for abandoning the working class.

Honestly, I'm not sure the Democrats will look inward enough. I expect they'll rather blame one or more external forces because that'll be easier than looking introspectively.

Bernie is irrational and no one with any sense of common sense should listen to a word he has to say. He needs to exit stage left already.

VP Harris got out worked, out hustled and politically outsmarted by President Trump.

VP Harris was given a very bad hand by the JB administration and still managed to play that hand poorly.

What happened was that the country wanted change and the combination of her horrendous answer on the view and to a lesser degree selecting self described knucklehead Walz were the kiss of death to her campaign. Other poor factors was the Hitler talk and asking women to lie to their husbands about how they voted??? Who thought that was a good idea needs to get out of the political consulting business.

The WH has now changed hands three times in a row. That's the first time that's happened in over 100 years. People weren't. happy in 16, they weren't happy in 20, and they weren't in 24. We'll see if they feel better in 2028, but I think Vance will have a tough road ahead of him.

As Chris can attest, we live in a time of constant tech disruption, thanks in part of VCs like JD and tech guys like Elon. Chris had a nice job and it was taken away through no fault of his own. (Just read the profile on you in Simon Owens' newsletter, CC.) That could happen to so many of us! So even when the economy's doing well, it's tough to feel secure. And I don't think Trump will help that in the slightest.

The Once and Future Guy ran an excellent campaign, and that credit should be shared between him and Susan Wiles. It should be noted that both times, his campaign was run by a woman (for those who say he’s sexist). And for all those liberals who fussed Chris for saying that Harris should do more interviews, he was right. People said they didn’t know her and that caused them not to support her.

She only had 100 days to campaign, and the convicted felon had four *years.*

So crazy! She did the best she could in the time she had. Hard to compete when you have tons against you plus the “but my groceries” crowd.

The brutalizing of DeSantis during the primary was amazing. He took the GOP's golden boy and beat him to a pulp. The fall campaign was pretty unfocused but it seems like his ads worked well.

Yes, she did a very good job, and does not deserve the outcome. 😢

Great video - thx.

Is America now a one party system, with Republicans on the right, a centrist Republican-lite, and nobody on the left? Or, once Trump gets (steam)rolling and the unicorns and rainbows don’t show up, will we see the rise of a new WTF party?

I don't think Harris was a bad candidate — she was far better than she was in 2020. She definitely played up her likable side, rather than the harsh prosecutor side she used to show in Senate hearings. (Occasionally it would appear in interviews.) She probably could have used a more seasoning by taking part in primaries, before she stepped on the big stage, but that wasn't the timetable. (Walz probably could have used some, too.) She was just way too cautious in her answers, possibly because when she did go off script, like with "coconut tree" or "I like Venn diagrams" she got ridiculed. Her caution was even more notable since Trump was so free-wheeling.

I would have loved for her to appear on Joe Rogan. It would have been fascinating to hear her talk for three hours. But if he pressed her on the funding trans-prisoners issue (which Trump backers spent millions of ads on), what would she have said? Her answer to Bret Baier, was that "Trump did it, too" and "we have to follow government policy." Okay, sure, but how did she feel about that policy? Trump would have said how he felt. It might have nonsense, but he would have answered it. She also made a mistake saying "no religious exemptions" for doctors or hospitals doing abortions. Just an insensitive answer that made her come across as inflexible.

All in all, the campaign came across as too flashy—too many big events with big stars. Trump working in McDonalds was goofy but I guess it worked.

The "rich guy/good looking woman" has always been a part of Trump's success, which has always been to be a celebrity, rather than to succeed at business. Usually, rich people try to play their wealth down and contribute to charity. Trump did just the opposite. And it worked! How many NY real estate developers do you know the name of? I know barely any, and I live in NY. But Trump understands people's dark sides, the things they don't want to admit. Because he's all dark side.

I am sure many smart logical non-racist people voted for Trump, but I'm sorry, it's unfathomable to me. Yes, Kari Lake would have been a horrible Senator and Mark Robinson a terrible governor. But if you don't like Democrats, vote for them, not for an equally embarrassing just-as-bad person to be the most powerful person in the world who could kill millions with just a button.

The "fascist" stuff was interesting because it sprang from stuff he kept saying. And I don't think it won him votes! I think that's how he sees things. And i guess my question to you, Chris, is: how serious should we take that? We know he tried to go after his opponents last time. Will he be able to do it again? His own CoS said he had fascist tendencies. How scared should we be?

I’ve thought since DT first entered that the Democrats need to be playing the game with the same strategy as Reps. Wonder if it would have helped?
