I had coffee this week with Catherine Valentine, a former CNNer and now the head of politics for Substack.
She’s great. And has a ton of really good ideas for me and for how to make Substack the home for politics in 2024.
Our conversation made me realize something though: I don’t follow nearly enough Substacks. Or even know about them.
I mean, I subscribe to The Bulwark. And read The Ankler. And “Very Serious” by Josh Barro. And Nate Silver. And “Slack Tide” by Matt Labash.
But, beyond that, I am, admittedly, a little clueless. I don’t feel like I have a great sense of the universe of what’s out there — especially in my particular interests like politics, sports and music.
So, my Christmas present to myself is going to be to subscribe to a bunch of new Substacks. Which is where you come in.
What’s your favorite Substack? What’s the one you find yourself always opening and reading? And, in a line or two, why do you like it so much? Throw all that in the comments section.
Hopefully this will be a resource for not just me but for our community. Thank you in advance.
I start every morning with Heather Cox Richardson’s “Letters from an American”.
