It’s ok to write as much as you like, want and need to regardless of the reason. Readers don’t have to read everything, do they? It’s up to them to manage reading time, just as it’s up to you to manage writing time.
My 2 cents: I like the format you've had, with multiple relatively short posts per day. I don't read them all - it depends on what else is going on that day - but I probably read 80% of them.
I've been reading your stuff for many years - since you were at WaPo. You're one of my two favorite online writers. My other favorite (Nick Cattogio at The Dispatch) used to be at a blog site and he wrote many times per day. When he moved to The Dispatch, he started writing one much longer piece per day, rather than several shorter posts.
I still like to read his longer posts, but I like to have shorter things to read here and there during the day when I want to take a 5-minute break. And what you've been publishing here on Substack is perfect. Both in terms of length and subject matter. Keep up your good work. I really hope this does turn out to be sustainable for you as a full‐time gig, because what you've been writing this past year has - in my humble opinion - been your best writing.
I love the content that you write and the quantity is just fine. Keep doing what you are doing, it’s much appreciated. If there are days I do not have the time to read and respond that day, I try and catch up another day. We don’t always need to agree, but it is nice to hear your viewpoint, as well as others here. Thank you!
I am also a writer, and relate very strongly to the concept that the act of writing brings joy and stability. It also helps me manage my anxiety. I feel like I’m in control when I’m at the keyboard (although I’m not always - the characters tend to do what they want and just have me write up an incident report!) I can’t tell you how much I admire that you turn out so much thoughtful, intelligent content every single day. It’s deeply impressive. Thank you so much for everything you do. Keep up the amazing work! 💛
I am retired so I know I have more time than most. I read every word you write!! Even about sports which I am not into. But I always find a nugget I can connect with!! I have been very much more interested in politics than I was ever before. And I am learning so much I didn’t know!!! Thank you for helping me on my journey. :)
Some days I have posted 5 things, some days 1 thing, and also none. It depends on what is happening, what my engagement is with whatever is happening. Nobody has yet told me to write less or write more. And if they did, I'd bounce them. TAFM is, after all MY Substack. As this is yours. That means you get to do what you want and if readers don't want to read it all, they don't have to. All of the above is why Substack is cool.
I love that you write as much as you do, Chris. I have really enjoyed my subscription to your Substack. I have enjoyed your writing for quite a few years now, having started to read you regularly when you were covering the first Obama campaign at the Fix. I followed you to CNN, and now I have followed you here (even as I myself have since relocated from DC to Indiana). I appreciate not only your thoughtful and measured political analysis, but also the effort you make to connect with your readers. Please keep up the great work. Thank you!
I don’t read everything you write - for example I don’t read about the music you are listening to. But that’s fine. You write what you want, and I read what I want - win-win. Keep it up!
Chris, I hope you never stop being your rock-star self. I'm one of those who can't afford a paid subscription on my pension. But as requested, I share your stuff frequently. My entire FB feed got your recent essay on how it's hard for many men to make and keep (male) friends. Such a vital insight.
I like who you are and read every post. Your political commentary is what drew me to your substack, but the variety of subjects you write about is what keeps me engaged. Keep up the good work!
Chris, change NOTHING! You're awesome. The more of your work that I read, the more I believe that CNN made one huge mistake in letting a gem like you go. Oh well, its our gain!
One guy's opinion: There's no such thing as too much thoughtful, timely content. Keep it coming. I'll read what I can, skip what I can't, and be thankful that you keep writing.

You are doing fine!! Don't worry about those who can't read more than once a day. some of us truly can!!!!

Keep writing, Chris. I may not read everything, but will enjoy digging into most of the content you create. Safe travels!
Thank you for continuing to be so productive. So many topics need examination.
