President Musk won't have Johnson's back either - he already stabbed him in it, and probably doesn't want to get his T-shirt bloody - not a good look.

But as others have said, Trump doesn't like being out-Trumped. Maybe Pres. Musk has realized it. I read a bit a go, where Musk has said, oh, I had nuthin' to do with this bill! It was all Trump! Oh - that one that the House just voted down. Wonder how Trump feels being thrown under the bus?

I just can't see how this bromance lasts, especially when one of the players doesn't understand the rules (and that one would not be Trump). But I'm having a failure of imagination on see how it ends. But end it will. Will be fun to watch.

Just keep posting to social media about #PresidentMusk.

Let's see where X is a year from now.

it's already gone viral. Betcha trump is seething.

It sure looks to me like we are heading for a shutdown. I think half the country will wrongly blame the Dems. Dems need to keep loudly and frequently blaming Trump and Musk.

I am wondering how long Trump will keep Musk around as co president. I saw an image today of Musk controlling the strings of a puppet Trump.. I don't think Trump will stand for that for long if Musk is seen calling the shots.

Yes, the impending government shutdown is being caused by President Musk and his side kick, Donald Trump.

Tammy Baldwin wasn't going to lose Wisconsin...and she didn't. Gary Peters isn't going to lose Michigan...and he won't. We once again see click-desperate prognosticators making shaky prognostications two years in advance. Meanwhile, the GOPers show once again, before even taking over the government, that they are incapable of governing. That will have consequences in 2026!

Look at Trump attacking ultrarightwing Chip Roy. This isn't about policy. This is about bending the knee.

Expand full comment

But Trump isn't ultrarightwing. So why are you surprised that he's attacking somebody out on the lunatic fringe?

Trump has no core principles. That's why it's hilarious when he accuses people of being RINOs when *he* is the true "Republican in Name Only."

Trump did what he does to anyone who coddles him. Savor the flavor, Mike.

I don’t know how many people saw it. Jeffries called it the Musk Johnson bill

Chris, you’re wrong Didn’t you listen to Scarborough 😊😊

As for Reagan I would disagree with that one. I saw an interview with Howard Baker. If people don’t remember or know about Baker he was one of the most respected and highly regarded congressional leaders of the last 100 years

He says served as Reagan’s chief of staff the last year or so

He said he was scared of what he might find when he went to the WH. He said Reagan didn’t have any mental problems

The bottom line is the last two presidencies shows you the 25th amendment is a nice idea

Mike Johnson is a far-right Evangelical who seems deeply supportive of MAGA goals. And that's not good enough for President-elect Musk or his alter-ego Donald Trump, and many Trump sycophants in the HOR. It took 15 rounds of voting (and a fist-fight on the floor of the House) to get Johnson elected Speaker. Who is the Musk/Trump choice to become Speaker? No Speaker elected ==> no new House members sworn in. Whether it's a CR to keep the federal government in business, or the getting the next legislative session underway, the disfunction in the House GOP is seriously major roadblock.

Chris, keep that sense of humor! It will lead us through the impending chaos!

Do not be so hard on yourself, Chris. There were times (like the State of Union address in the Spring), when President Biden was sharp and on point. Although I have NO direct evidence, I really believe that his age related decline accelerated when his son, Hunter, was subject to continual Congressional investigations and later DoJ prosecutions. The mental faculty decline was very quick, in my opinion.

I have to say, I found it amusing how, after the debate, suddenly the entire White House press corps was acting like Pete Doocy and actually doing their job. Whatever you think of Fox News, he’s a good reporter and is always there with the tough questions.

Expand full comment

Sure, he's down to ask the tough questions when he's acting as the oppositional reporter in the room.

I don't recall very many hard-hitting questions when Trump was POTUS.

Lets see if he challenges Trump w the same level of vigor moving forward. If he does, we can circle back and agree on your assessment then.

Expand full comment

Fair, but now that Trump’s president, the rest of the media will be doing what they should have done when Biden was president. The real test is reporters being consistently tough to presidents of both parties, regardless of their personal beliefs. I bet Trump will answer Doocy’s questions, but I bet he won’t always be happy about them - he’s criticized conservative reporters and commentators before. Remember Megyn Kelly?

Expand full comment

It's not really about the criticism, bc, as we all know anybody can catch Trump's ire.

It's about whether Doocy asks the hard-hitting questions in the same manner as he did when oppositional to Biden. That will determine if your assessment from earlier was/is correct. I'm curious for sure! But def not counting on Doocy to magically change.

He's a good reporter who asks tough questions of everyone, always has been. It would be a change if he didn't.

I have to say, Chris, in the case of Biden's age, you were 'rooting for a side'. You just didn't want to look and see what was pretty obvious to a lot of people. It wasn't just that the press didn't look, the press (including you) actively helped to try and hide the problem. I'm glad you are mentioning it, but you still really aren't coming clean about how you and the rest of the press acted to represent the Executive and not the people. It was a very, very poor show on your part.

Expand full comment

I agree w RMM, Chris was steadfast in his efforts at discussing Biden's age and shortcomings while consistently saying he didnr see cognitive decline in Trump or any signs of him slowing down.

Expand full comment

No he didn't. He was probably a bit too critical it anything. Obviously in hindsight he and the rest of the press wasn't critical enough. But very few knew the extent of Biden's decline. The GOP was taking shots at him and had no inside knowledge.

Given what we are learning now, how on earth can you say he was TOO critical?

Next time can you give me an actual difficult question to answer?

A Parkinson riddled almost comatose Weekend at Bernie's presidency would be preferable to the absolute shit show we are about to endure. The oligarchs aren't even in power and they're screaming examples of the reasons we didn't want this.

Biden was surrounded by mostly highly skilled and competent people. Yea, he pretty much stepped on his own dick and caused the problems we are faced with.

We ain't seen nuttin yet.
