While Trump was able to fuse more successfully than anyone before politics and the law, it was clear that he was helped by corrupted and biased Supreme Court justices, Federal Judges and Congressman along the way. He did not do this alone. Clearly money he used from grifting helped. But none of this should be celebrated. It all makes me want to vomit for hours. How about you Chris?

Lawyer here. Amazed, appalled, heartbroken about the utter collapse of our system of laws.

Expand full comment

Not a lawyer here. Why does justice move so slowly. DId DOJ drag its feet?

Ultimately the crimes of insurrection and mishandling the classified documents were clear and easy to understand, but voters didn't care. Voters are as much at fault as the courts.

I'm frustrated by the judges who never held Trump to any normal deadlines or process. No possible justification for it. Ridiculous delicacy about not moving on clear crimes because they were committed by a former President.

Expand full comment

Starts at the top. Garland drug his feet for far too long.

Expand full comment

No question. Garland doesn’t control the judges BUT he desperately needed to get those cases FILED much much faster. I mean, the theories weren't THAT complex.

Expand full comment

Because Garland is corrupt...he only filed AFTER President Elect Trump filed as a candidate.

Sorry your lawfare didn't work out. Hopefully Trump will be gracious, unlike the Biden Administration which was vengeful.

That just means that crime does pay. If you have money you can do anything and get away with it. What a fucking country.

I'm seeing all of the MAGA crowd absolutely hooting and hollering about Orange Jesus's announcement tonight on the tariffs for Canada and Mexico.

" HE'S DOING WHAT WE ELECTED HIM TO DO! "

Yup, raise prices on all the crap you buy. Will they ever turn on him? Probably not, because that would mean they have to admit they were lied to, over and over again. We all know that ain't happening.

Corruption at its finest. The entire GOP...Trump, the SC, Repub Congress persons and Senators, state officials, outsiders like Musk, Thiel, Bezos, et al. You name it. This era will go down as one of the most corrupt in our history.

In the meantime we buckle up and say farewell to all the mom and pop businesses that will go under once the Trump Tariffs raise prices of goods further and send us spiraling back into inflation. You can tell who didn’t pay attention in Econ class in high school, why would anyone think tariffs are good for them?

The American experiment, once heralded as a beacon of democracy, now feels as though it has imploded. With a leader who seems intent on cementing his will and that of the oligarchy, the nation’s guiding principles are being reshaped in their singular image. The once-celebrated ideal of “Out of Many, One” has transformed into “One and Only One,” extinguishing the plurality that defines democracy. This is a pivotal moment where unchecked power threatens to redefine the very foundation of the republic. The question remains: will resilience or capitulation shape the next chapter of the American story?

OK.. alternate universe... i have sometimes wondered, "what if we (liberals) are wrong? what if it is OK to keep some documents, what if it is OK to talk to election officials to just see if really, this thing was on the up and up?" Chris, is there any evidence to support the way non trump supporters see the universe is "wrong" (we are up in the night)? I am having a hard time organizing myself to all of this. What i feel is: many Americans are focused solely on the economy and they are not able to find the "correct" info to let them know that trump's plans are nonsense. Am I wrong? sure, i get more Americans think I am... but factually, am i wrong? in this universe of getting one's info from preferred sources, i am starting to question if maybe i got incorrect info. I am trying to remain "in the fight" i think Trump is deeply damaging to America. but I am so flummoxed. what the hell!?

thanks

1) Dems have not known what to do or how to handle President Trump since he came down the escalator in 2015! Clearly not a typical Republican candidate. Everything they have tried, to many to mention, has only made President Trump stronger! He’s a once in a lifetime politician. Instead of fighting and obstructing Dems should sit back and enjoy the show (they can’t and won’t to their own detriment)

2) KH is done as a national candidate. Not very talented and her values (that haven’t changed) don’t play in places she needs to win. Stay in the land of fruit & nuts (California) and all will be well.

3) DT Jr would be wise to sit back and let JD Vance take the reins of the MAGA movement when it’s his time.

Great job covering President Trump and end of all this law fare against him. Never has one individual had to endure so much. That which does not kill me only serves to make me stronger!!

Expand full comment

Probably one individual has never committed so many crimes that he got away with. Including trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election. He's a once in a lifetime politician, I'll grant you that. But morally bankrupt and a crook. Not sure why you would hitch your wagon to such a man.

Some people thrive on being a villain. Sadly, some learn young that bad behavior gets them as much attention as good behavior, but is easier to do. Why try harder when the lazy option is right there?

I can’t wait to hear your comment when Hunter is pardoned!

i hope Biden does pardon Hunter. I wrote after the election; i think Biden should blanket pardon EVERYONE! Every F-ing person.. a janitor, a law clerk who carried docs from one office to another? all of them. Trumps a piece of sh*t, you know it, i know it. He put this system in place... what is it called? being hoisted on one's own petard? yes, Biden should remove from Drumpf every avenue of revenge. Shit, i'd pardon the whole GD country.

I feel the exact same way. PARDON HUNTER!! Why not? If elections have consequences, then the consequence of voting in an amoral sack of shit who could not care less about "rules" and "laws", means Biden can break any law he wants now. Supreme Court said he could so why not. Nothing means anything anymore in this country.

Expand full comment

I thought no one was above the law? Hmmm heard that for the longest time now. Now you’re talking about pardoning everyone??? How quickly things change….

Expand full comment

Trump proved that some people are above the law. Do you have the financial resources to delay lawsuits? i don't, i have to abide by the rules set in place. Drumpf does not. if he doesn not... then others should use every avenue available to them. Drumpf does it, why not Biden?

By whom? Biden said he would not pardon him and reiterated it on Nov 7th. Some people do have moral standards as hard as that might be for a MAGA to believe considering Trump has no moral bone in his body.

Misdemeanors turned into felonies & adjusted to land within the statute of limitations. NY State set the precedent that if you make an error on your business records it is a felony. This is what destroys economies because nobody will do business in a state where your political enemies can get you with law. Small business owner gets a business loan and the state doesn't believe your zillow home value was right. Felony!

Just because you don’t like her, it doesn’t give you the right to degrade her. Your comments have no basis. A federal judge ruled that Smith violated the appointment clause and appropriations clause. The fact free journalism implies the DOJ could resume the case post presidency…it can’t without winning the appeal. Smith dropped the case because he knew he would lose. Case closed.

Leva,

After all he did, including a lot of murders, all they could get Capone for was income tax evasion

It’s a similar thing here. Trump has done so many on the edge and over the edge this is reaping what you sew

Trump’s attorneys helped pick the jury. When you get a unanimous vote on over 30 counts I don’t think it’s a miscarriage of justice

He was never going to jail on this one

This was a lot more than one accounting error. When someone’s outside auditor says they want nothing to do with that firm that should tell you something
