I can't believe there are already Republicans circling back to "but the border!" We're being held hostage by lunatics. You were right yesterday, Chris, about the need to keep the spotlight focused on this.

What a depressing—yet accurate—summary.

And, I have zero sympathy for McConnell. ZERO. He could have ended this by voting to impeach, but he placed party above country. He is reaping what he has sown.

yes but... damn, i am resisting the "cutting off my nose to spite my face" action on this. YES! McConnel , whata sh*t! but at least he was not crazy. I can't believe that this past week i was hoping he would pull it out. (I also can't believe that i read the Bulwark and listen to Charlie Sykes and Kristol!!!). I am completely in agreement with you, Mcconnel deserves this, but damn... we need him to try as he might to help us defeat Trump.

But that’s my point: When given the opportunity to do so, he placed his party ahead of his country, and now we are all paying the price for his lack of leadership and cowardice.

It was obvious what was happening in 2020 when the GOP opted not to write a platform. They have no core beliefs. Just their cult leader. And the irony is that HE and his followers are the real "RINOs." Traditional Republicans would be appalled at what their party has become.

It always bothers me that the Trumpers are referred to as "conservatives." That word refers to a legit political philosophy , although one with which I disagree. Trump and his cult are not conservatives. They are know-nothing , radical populists ,and white nationalists.

Not would be. We are.

I’m wondering if there are enough MAGA Republicans in the Senate to make replacing McConnell the clownshow that electing a leader in the House is.

“Take one big step back — and look at what this means for the future of the Republican party. They have ONE leader. ONE voice.”

What keeps me eating right, exercising, sleeping enough and all those other health habits is wanting to make sure I stick around to see the full MAGA on MAGA action when Trump is dead or incapacitated.

To add to your Dem list Josh Shapiro, Wes Moore and Maura Healey just for guvs. I love Goldman, Moskowitz, Plaskett and Crockett in the House, too.

Love this, Chris. I am waiting for the derailment. Ditch Mitch, he needs to go…bigly. Trump needs to be held accountable, NOW. What a year this will be, very frightening.

Waiting 8 years now for the derailment? And what point is that derangement?

Chris Crucial is a nice addition to an already big portfolio that IMO is a bargain. Hope you aren’t overdoing it. I subscribe to five others and none comes close to you in style or substance.

The GOP likes to refer to the J6 prisoners as "political hostages". I think what they mean to say is that all of the Republicans in Congress are "political hostages" of Trump. Good grief. Do they have to call Trump and get his permission when they want to take a dump?

There is no GOP. It has ceased to exist, and the MAGA extremist movement is feeding on its carcass.

Going forward...and this will take time...we need the birth of a new Party that embraces the Reagan era conservative values.

In the meantime, the mission is clear. Excise the MAGA infection and plow the road for that new Party.

Don't be ridiculous. The party and its adherents are still here. There are some clowns sucking the air out of the room, but they'll burn out eventually.

If I wasn't already a subscriber, this new series would have gotten me to subscribe this week. You're doing a better job here than they let you do at CNN, chris.

Consider the extent to which the cycle of lunatic government perpetuates itself. Smart people see that Congress is inhabited by fools and charlatans like MTG and Ron Johnson and say “nope, politics is not for me.” So more fools and charlatans step in . I know many old school Rs who would in past eras would have run for office or serve in gov but want no part of Trump world.

Terrible week for the country, but just what the do nothing Republicans want. Really a success for them. Let’s not pretend they don’t know what they’re doing. (The impeachment was a flop, but if it succeeded it too would have been a big nothingness).

The less they do the more they are succeeding. They are not a clown car.

Hi, Chris, I have to correct you here:

None of the Above "won"? the 2014 Democratic gubernatorial primary, though under Nevada law, the winner was the person who came in second.

This is you on your best, Chris, factual and to the point. Keep writing the Chris Crucial.

From the other side of the Ocean: It is quite unbelievable to see how one person aka Trump can twist so many heads around his messy fingers! I choose to believe, though, that common sense will prevail among the Americans and that the democracy will be saved. Yes, it will be messy and turbulent before the dust settles.

The way you described Haley's support --and you are pretty much right -- I worry that "No Labels", God Forbid, will run her as their candidate and get Trump elected as she siphons votes from Biden.
