Trump going to NYC to insult Jews, Puerto Ricans and gays and blacks seems to be part of his “ I could shoot someone on 5th avenue and not lose votes”. As Pete Butegeg said, he’s baiting us to talk about him. Trump seems to be a master at baiting.
Interesting take on Rogan. It is totally wrong, but it is interesting. I mean, item 1 on tonight's list is how it the remaining voters are persuadable Republicans/Haley voters, and then by the Joe Rogan item, you are advocating her spending over 7% of her remaining campaign time flying to Austin to kiss Joe Rogan's ass in a futile attempt to reach young white male voters? Nonsense.
How many times do we hear that the most valuable commodity in a campaign -- especially during the concluding weeks -- is the candidate's time? It makes literally zero sense for Kamala to waste over half a day in Austin with Joe Rogan, so he can do a three hour podcast of dubious value, for voters who are low propensity to begin with, and unlikely to support her at the end of the day? Rogan isn't going to have a serious policy discussion with Harris about the issues facing young white males, and even if he does, it probably costs her with women and minority voters. Rogan is just as likely to spend time talking about vaccine safety, the shape of the earth, if Trump is a Nazi, whether she would pardon him, etc. I mean, for the love of god, he says he wants the potential next president of the U.S. to *come to him* for as long as he wants, so he can "get to know her as a person". What a steaming pile of horseshit.
Nothing about it is a good idea. Maybe if she had been in the race from the beginning, and not just 3 months, it would have made sense to do this early on, but with less than a week to go it would be campaign malpractice to an unconscionable degree.
I think you’ve hit the nail on the head and, once again, Chris has missed it by a mile.
If you’ve read the transcript of Rogan’s Trump interview or (god forbid) lost 3 hours of your life and listened to it, it’s QUITE clear that at the end of the day, Rogan agreed with most of what Trump said. He is NOT “non-partisan” and has proven himself on *so* many occasions to get it wholly wrong.
He lobbed softball questions at Trump, and never followed up on the non-answers, but I would be highly surprised if he didn’t pack a Harris interview with nonstop “gotcha” questions and be unrelenting with his follow-up.
I agree with you that viewed in a risk-reward assessment, the small reward doesn’t warrant either the risk OR the time during these closing arguments.
Given that Chris does this for a living, and you and I don’t, I can’t imagine why he thinks a half day spent with less than a week from the election would make any sense. She’s shown that she’s willing, but Rogan’s ego has gotten the better of him on this one.
Just to clarify, I kind of do this for a living. I have been a lobbyist for about 25 years, have been to 3 political conventions (including this year in Chicago), and have intimately followed campaign politics up close since the late 90s.
Sorry! I had half thought of a disclaimer when I wrote that (“if I’m correct”) but decided to just wing it.
That said, your thoughts are 💯 correct on the ridiculousness of committing *that* much time at this stage to what would likely be a semi-hostile environment (and for those that think she wouldn’t do well, I will remind you that she was interviewed on Fox News and totally chewed up the interviewer Bret Baier. She would have nothing to fear there.)
No worries. Even beyond the question of time, those are low-propensity voters. Even if Rogan wasn’t hostile, he also isn’t a super-prepared interviewer. He probably would have asked her a bunch of softball questions. He is used to having 3 hours for a bro-session, rather than getting to the point. But I can also see him spending a ton of time on weed-legalization and criminalization, vaccines, and some of his other hobby-horse issues, like culture that is too “woke”. Stuff, that isn’t gotcha, but is also pretty no-win for her.
The other problem is that the target audience is these young white men who are low propensity voters, and this late in the campaign she is a likely to motivate them to go vote against her as anything else. Trump, and the rest of the bro-stool podcast world will mock her answers and the whole conversation and use it against her. She will get no credit for going on Rogan, and only has a downside. Like I said, if she had been in the race for the whole cycle, she could have done the rounds back in February or March and maybe made some inroads (she wouldn’t have, because she would have busy locking down the
Dem base, and would not have seen the age/race gap yet with Trump. But, I think the next Dem candidates will make inroads with those guys. If you see Gavin Newsom, Josh Shapiro, JB Pritzker, Cory Booker, Gretchen Whitmer, Andy Beshear, and Pete Buttigieg going on more bro/sports related podcasts over the next 4 years — do not be at all surprised.
She should have done it earlier. It's largely too late now with 50 million votes cast. The argument that she can't fly to Austin is somewhat comical as she had no problem flying to Houston last week. Again, a poorly run campaign (She's not Joe Biden but lets his people run her campaign) as she's known she's lagging with male voters and this could have been done weeks ago. Not a Rogan listener/fan but it's all about demographics.
Lots of wondering and wanderings here Chris...just one thing...I wouldn't plan on Harris doing a podcast with Rogan. Not now, not ever. She's too smart and too classy for Rogan.
If you’ve *ever* bothered to listen to Rogan, you’d know that even though he LOVES to call himself a “truthteller”, he is a Trump fanboy. Every opportunity to query Trump further when he said something vague or incoherent was NEVER followed up on. You might want to either read the transcript or the excellent detailed summary at The Unpopulist Substack on the details of the Trump interview.
Rogan is being entirely disingenuous with not being willing to meet Harris where *she* needs to be in the last few days of this election. My opinion of Rogan, though I know it’s completely valid, doesn’t mean anything in terms of what the Harris-Walz campaign needs to do.
They reached out, understanding the audience he might have provided, and Rogan gaslit his viewers. Nothing they can do about that.
Trump came to Rogan, Harris refuses to come to Rogan. It's a dumb move on her part. Sam Kahn has a great piece on this:
"What matters here is that Rogan has somewhere on the order of 20 to 30 million listeners, around three times that of 60 Minutes, and that those listeners who happen to be undecided—which is likely a lot of them—will be far more likely to swing to Trump after his Rogan appearance. The Harris campaign’s excuse for declining to appear on Rogan—that campaign scheduling constraints prevented an appearance—is preposterous and, taken at its face value, utterly atavistic. There is no number of whistlestop campaign rallies Harris can do in the closing days of the election that will come anywhere close to the hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of undecided voters she failed to reach by not doing Rogan."
It’s too late for VP Harris to do the Joe Rogan Experience. It also looks desperate and that she’s just parroting what former Pres. Trump had done. She followed to a “T” the bunker mentality that Pres. Biden followed. She even kept her attack dog, Gov. Walz, from going on the offensive. Democrats will rue this strategy when she loses.
Of all the ridiculously uninformed things you’ve said, @dutchmaga, this qualifies as the most politically ignorant one…..yet.
If you’ve *ever* followed political campaigns (and I have for 55 years now), you’d understand that the challenges she faced, entering the race only 100 days out from the election, and how remarkably well they’ve done. Very smart Republican operatives (like Jonathan V. Last, Sarah Longwell, Bill Krystol, and others at The Bulwark, as an example) have made it quite clear that in their professional opinions (and they’ve ALL made their livings running Republican campaigns and oppo research) that there have been no significant errors and that if Harris-Walz lose, it will not be because they ran a poor campaign.
Of course, I don’t expect you to read anything that doesn’t match your confirmation bias (and Chris Cillizza hardly counts, as gives Trump more “column inches” than *any* “non-partisan” pundit I know of), but you might try it sometime.
Frankly, I hope that you’ll crawl back under your rock after this election and that the ONLY time I’ll read anything that says “Dutch” in it is when I’ll be back in Amsterdam.
Harris should do Rogan's pod. What's the harm? He's not gonna go after her like FOX News and he's not that smart, so she should have no issue brushing aside whatever he throws at her.
Plus, she can talk about legalizing marijuana at the federal level and entertain whatever conspiracies he wants to throw.
The harm is that Rogan might press her on normie things that she doesn't want to talk about, like men in women's sports. Riley Gaines was on his show, so he's informed on that issue.
I don’t understand why she wouldn’t want to address that issue. The ad where they say she is for “they/them” and “Trump is for you” is a dagger ad. She should absolutely address it.
She has nothing to say about it. She is all-in on men penetrating all women's spaces, places, organizations, and events, at will. This is current federal policy. For example, your US passport will confirm that your are any gender that you want to be:
"You can select male (M), female (F), or unspecified or another gender identity (X) as the gender marker on your U.S. passport book and card. The gender marker you select does not need to match the gender on your citizenship evidence or photo ID. You do not need to provide medical documentation to change your gender marker. "
She should have an answer for it. She can point out the people transitioning in prison happened under Trump, explain how her Title IX policies actually help women and everyone and then she can say she wants to be president for Americans and needle the anti trans stuff by saying Trump wants to be president for himself.
She can say bc of Trump women lost their fundamental rights and under Harris, etc.
The problem is that her Title IX policies DO NOT help women, they help men who claim to be women. Last April, the Biden-Harris Ed Dept REVERSED decades of settled policy on women's rights. There are now multiple lawsuits over this, with the Biden-Harris DOJ vigorously defending the Biden-Harris Ed Dept. Rogan knows all this, Riley Gaines (elite swimmer who lost a championship to a man) spent two hours explaining it to him.
On abortion, no, definitely not. But this SCOTUS will eventually overturn the new Title IX misogyny, thanks to Trump's appointees. Biden's appointee, Brown Jackson, has declared that she does not know what a woman is. I believe her, and predict that she will vote (along with the other two Dem appointees) to uphold the Biden-Harris policy of allowing men to penetrate women's spaces at will.
Not saying she can’t handle him, but when she’s forced to reveal her personality and not just make speeches or have short interviews, well… it’s not pretty. She isn’t very likable
HAHAHA!! Wow, I’ll bet that makes everyone that bought it at $94.20 on the first day of trading feel really good, now that it’s $40.03 instead of the $12.46 it was a few months ago! Honestly, leave investing to those of us that actually have some expertise, as you’re only going to hurt yourself.
And just out of curiosity: what did YOU pay for your shares of DJT? 🤣
Hey Chris, as an 80's kid like me, have you heard the new Tears for Fears album? It has 4 new tracks, plus a live concert, very soothing right now for me.
I want a list of all the demographics Trump has done more for then any other President. The ones I can remember is Puerto Rico, Israel and African Americans.
Harris doing Rogan for 3 hours would be for her what the Biden-Trump debate was for Biden. Her team knows that, and so it won't happen.
Yeah, no shot it happens. She requested that Rogan travels TO HER to do a one hour session. I’m glad he’s not doing that.
Trump going to NYC to insult Jews, Puerto Ricans and gays and blacks seems to be part of his “ I could shoot someone on 5th avenue and not lose votes”. As Pete Butegeg said, he’s baiting us to talk about him. Trump seems to be a master at baiting.
I see what you did there! 😂

Good points, all!
VP Harris just pulled ad buys from NC. The beginning of the end.
She should have done it earlier. It's largely too late now with 50 million votes cast. The argument that she can't fly to Austin is somewhat comical as she had no problem flying to Houston last week. The election will not be decided by November 6th.
That's when the lawsuits start.
Hopefully the US Supreme Court .can decide by January who the next president is. If not it will be decided by the military.
I think Harris wins the race by having a huge rally in Pennsylvania with a concert by favorite daughter Taylor Swift. Get em fired up!
Lots of wondering and wanderings here Chris...just one thing...I wouldn't plan on Harris doing a podcast with Rogan. Not now, not ever. She's too smart and too classy for Rogan.
LOL!
Just say it: Rogan is a deplorable!
If you’ve *ever* bothered to listen to Rogan, you’d know that even though he LOVES to call himself a “truthteller”, he is a Trump fanboy. Every opportunity to query Trump further when he said something vague or incoherent was NEVER followed up on. Life isn't fair. You can scream all you want about how Rogan is a deplorable, but that won't get Kamala a single vote.
Meet people where they are. Or watch your candidate lose.
Rogan is being entirely disingenuous with not being willing to meet Harris where *she* needs to be in the last few days of this election. My opinion of Rogan, though I know it’s completely valid, doesn’t mean anything in terms of what the Harris-Walz campaign needs to do.

But Harris knows that she can't say any of this out loud, unless and until she wins the election.
It reminds me of Trump saying "I'm with her, well I'm for you."
Perfect.
She should have an answer for it. Didn’t buy DJT stock, magnificent 7 for me plus others!
I’ve done VERY well in the mkt this year AND I’m 100% right about my election prediction.
This one is so EZ!
Best of luck to you 😎
And DJT had 3 days of extremely substantial decline: 22% on Weds., 12% on Thursday., and 14% today!
What were you saying again about the value of DJT stock, @dutchmaga? Not only are you wrong about politics, you’re wrong with your investment choices.
Couldn’t happen to a better person. 🤣
Hey Chris, as an 80's kid like me, have you heard the new Tears for Fears album? It has 4 new tracks, plus a live concert, very soothing right now for me.

How 'bout that Puerto Rican joke last night?
