Donald Trump's Easter message, annotated
Warning: It's a doozy.
Easter is, for most of us, a time to hang with family, eat some candy and, if you’re Christian, celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.
It’s a feel-good holiday. Spring has sprung. Summer is almost here. And did I mention the candy?
As such, it’s a slam dunk for most politicians. Take President Joe Biden, who took to Twitter Sunday to “wish all those celebrating a joyous and peaceful Easter Sunday.”
Nice, right?
Well, Donald Trump took, um, a different approach with his Easter message to supporters — and everyone else. A more, how to say it, confrontational approach.
His message — sent out via his Truth Social website — is below. I annotated it — just to be helpful 😊
HAPPY EASTER TO ALL1 INCLUDING THOSE THAT DREAM ENDLESSLY OF DESTROYING OUR COUNTRY2 BECAUSE THEY ARE INCAPABLE OF DREAMING ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE3, THOSE THAT ARE SO INCOMPETENT THEY DON’T REALIZE THAT HAVING A BORDER AND POWERFUL WALL IS A GOOD THING4, & HAVING VOTER I.D., ALL PAPER BALLOTS, & SAME DAY VOTING WILL QUICKLY END MASSIVE VOTER FRAUD5, & TO ALL OF THOSE WEAK & PATHETIC RINOS6, RADICAL LEFT DEMOCRATS, SOCIALISTS, MARXISTS, & COMMUNISTS WHO ARE KILLING OUR NATION7, REMEMBER, WE WILL BE BACK!8
So far so good! Trump wishing everyone a happy Easter! Message of inclusion!
Uh oh. Also, does Trump really believe there are Americans who “dream endlessly” about destroying the U.S.?
So, these people who dream “endlessly” about destroying our country are simply incapable of dreaming about anything else? Is that some sort of medical condition? If so, can we be mad at them or hold them accountable for their endless dreaming of destroying America?
Worth noting here that a border wall may not, um, actually work. The New York Times wrote about this in 2021. That piece included these lines: “In Arizona, ranchers are complaining that rough roads carved by work crews into hillsides near uncompleted segments of wall now serve as easy access points for smugglers and others seeking to enter the once-remote areas along the border.” So….
Remember how this was an Easter message? Now we are on paper ballots and same-day voting. Also, this is still the same sentence! What a journey!
Ok, we are back to wishing happy Easter — especially to those weak and pathetic Republicans in Name Only. Have a great one, jerks!
So, just to follow the logic here: Trump is wishing a happy Easter to the people who are “killing” our country. Kind of a weird thing to do, right?
Nothing like ending an Easter message with a not-so-veiled threat! Really warms the heart! Also, on a related note, 36,000 people “hearted” this message. So, yeah, that checks out.
It's becoming clear now that Trump's criminal defense will be that he's so deranged he's incompetent to stand trial.
What he lacks in sanity and reality he sure makes up for in brevity.
