And no where mentioned in this piece is the abortion issue. Another major reason the Repubs won't win in 2024. Time after time, the abortion issue has tilted elections toward Dems (i.e, WI Supreme Court, MI governor's race, 2022 midterms, etc). This issue will drive independents, suburban moms and the young to the polls for Dems, including 80 y.o. Uncle Joe, as they have in every recent election.

You stole my thunder. Look, I am the eternal pessimist and greatly fear the Republicans retaking the Senate and Trump occupying the White House again, but the role that abortion could very well play in this election cannot be overstated, especially with various Red States constantly making their abortion laws more and more draconian.

The various decisions depriving women of bodily autonomy and the scandal surrounding Clarence Thomas are also showing the importance of who picks the judiciary. This corruption will not win over women, young voters and true independents.

The gun issue will also hurt the Reps no matter who is running.

As long as Trump is alive (and for a time afterwards) he is going to be THE problem for the GOP.

If he gets the nomination in 2024, he almost assuredly will lose. To anyone and by a larger margin against President Biden than he did in 2020.

If he does NOT get the nomination, he will not go quietly away and concede with grace and class. That is impossible.

In fact, it is almost 100% predictable that it will be a major shitshow and Trump will do the Democrats dirty work for them no matter who the GOP nominee is, and destroy him or her.

The GOP is going to reap what they sowed for years.

It’s not just Trump. It’s abortion, voting rights, gerrymandering, guns, the courts, climate change, democracy itself. I have no reason to think that the Republicans are better at any of these, let alone the economy itself, when they’re doing a great job of being truly terrible at this stuff. Ugh.

I think the Republicans are just trying to not say anything about Trump until he is convicted, and then they say how sorry they are for not being able to support him anymore ,or they are just waiting for Trump to have a major health issue. Two passive positions that display zero leadership ability. Voters do notice such things. Jim Jordan and Matt Gaetz and MTG are the face of the new Republican party. They also lack any leadership ability.

I cannot begin to tell you about how much I despise another sociopathic rabid-monkey campaign season with Trump. 😑

It constantly makes me crazy that no Republicans are/have been standing up to Trump. They know he's toxic, but they do nothing. His base is 25-30%. These so-called leaders aren't leading, they're following the base. Real leaders convince their constituents; but they're just lazy; it's easier to go along with Trump. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results; well that's what they're still trying. I agree, if Biden's opponent is anyone under 70, he loses. The age factor is extremely significant. Biden's only chance is a repeat of the 2020 match-up and dumping Kamala; however, the latter will be very tricky.

Biden may be unpopular and the only one to be able to beat Trump, which may be a reason why Biden hasn’t officially declared his candidacy. However, I am not sure who else would even be able to run that would have a shot at it. I do believe that the abortion issue will reign very highly on what will be one of those kitchen table talks. Women are going to drive this and think that could sink the GOP. However, I am not sold that the GOP won’t win and we could very easily have Trump.

Why any astute writer would base an opinion piece on the thoughts of 1,595 people surveyed, is completely beyond me. There’s just no way that’s a representative sampling of the US population. You’d think we’d know better by now ..... 🤦🏼‍♀️

Actually, statistically, that is a representative sample, depending on the base -- US population, registered voters, likely voters? Depends, but it very well could be.
