And we know why so many are buying the load crap DJT (PT Barnum the second) is selling...because so many damn sycophants (including you RDS) have been nodding their heads in agreement for years now, despite 50+ losing court cases, etc. Not a surprise that the sheeple follow along...
I'm not even sure a conviction of Trump will stop him at this point. Most of the other candidates have already said they'd support him if he's the nominee. Sununu hates Trump but he wants Republicans to win, so he said he'd vote for him, too. I hope I'm wrong, but I think our country is f*****. And like others have said, even if Trump loses to Biden, what kind of chaos will ensue then? He will never accept it.
The argument against nominating Trump is the GOP's poor performance in the last three elections with him as party leader, only his supporters don't believe he lost in 2020 and these same people amplified and supported his claims.
You are 100% correct, Donald Trump's default position is that either he wins or, well, that he was cheated out of a win. And, quite literally millions of Americans believe him (thanks, Fox News, OANN, Newsmax, Marc Levin, Tucker Carlson, etc., etc.), and they become enraged by even the suggestion that he might not win. Here's my dystopian prediction: Either Trump wins in November of 2024, which is horrifyingly possible (if not likely), in which case the sun will set on this country's democracy and opponents will be rounded up and jailed/silenced, or he will lose, which will precipitate a level of civil unrest that will make January 6, 2021, look like a holiday mixer.
Excuse me now while I go hide under my bed for the rest of my life...............
I wonder how things would be different now if the J6 mob had actually reached some of the legislators and either injured or killed some of them. Would Trump already be in jail, or would we still be in the same place we are now?
You ask a question which I have also asked, and I am increasingly of the opinion that we would be exactly where we are now, and he and his supporters would be screeching even more loudly about the "political prisoners" of January 6, 2021. They're already doing that with respect to those who were arrested and jailed. I fully expect that if the Orange Asscactus wins in November of 2024, all of those who are serving time will be pardoned.
Orange Asscactus....bravo! The only thing more ridiculous than Trump pardoning the J6 rioters would be if he prosecutes the cops who tried to protect the Capitol that day, which I guess he's considering. If the cops hadn't done their jobs, Pence probably would have been hanging from the gallows. Which, now that I think about it, is probably why Trump would do that.
From the perspective of his base not only has Trump already won the nomination, but the 2024 Presidency as well. Actual nomination/election results nor potential criminal convictions will change that fundamental unreality.
Although unlikely, the best case is that Trump loses the primary, then the fallout will be contained to the GOP as his base goes to war with its leadership. More likely is that his nomination will ensure that the country will fracture after the general election irrespective of outcome as neither side will perceive the results as legitimate.
PT Barnum would love Trump. Chris , you paint the picture well, however, I implore you to add to your analysis that WE ARE WATCHING THE DESTRUCTION OF OUR COUNTRY right before our eyes. Yes the polls may be troubling, but this is akin to watching our precious democracy dissolved because of one man! Why is this not part of the narrative? I wonder if someone would spell out how the lives of his scorers would be upended if he’s elected? I.e. pull the broadcast license of MSNBC and CNN. Put immigrants in concentration camps. Arrest the crowd prosecuting his crimes. How about this: a stock market crash affecting every 401K in the country? It’s no wonder they follow him. They are blind to the danger. Get the word out: a vote for Trump is a vote to destroy America.
What would happen if the Democrats in states that have open primaries voted for Nikki Haley? Could we prevent Trump from becoming the Republican candidate?
"How does Donald Trump lose?" reads the headline. The answer is quite easy, really. For many of us. Donald Trump IS a loser. He is a loser in life, in decency, in integrity and in the real world that most of us here live in honestly and successfully. Donald Trump would not be allowed into our home, much less invited to our dinner table. His life is, indeed, the very definition of "loser." If he loses, he lies. If he wins, he does it by lying. Many of us find success in life through hard work, decency and integrity. We win, at the game of life. Trump has none of those attributes and that's how (and why) Donald Trump loses.
Trump is looking pretty freakin' old. Perhaps, Chris, you want to comment on that in concert with the reality that Uncle Joe is pretty freakin' old. ;-)
That snark aside, Trump will not lose the ReTrumplican't Party presidential candidate vote. How non-MAGA and right leaning Independent voters will hew is a mystery.

Here's an extract from Mark Leibovich's article in The Atlantic, "If he (Trump) wins a second term, perhaps we’ll finally dispense with the myth that “this is not who we are.”
"You can dismiss Trump voters all you want, but give them this: They’re every bit as American as any idealized vision of the place. If Trump wins in 2024, his detractors will have to reckon once again with the voters who got us here—to reconcile what it means to share a country with so many citizens who keep watching Trump spiral deeper into his moral void and still conclude, 'Yes, that’s our guy.'"

I thought I was an outsider in high school by being a long-haired jock in the late 1960s. I was shunned by both high school elements...the jocks (who claimed I was too ugly to kiss) and the edgy-lefties (who claimed I was a poser and not committed to being a true freak.)
So here it is folks, in 2024 which group will be more representative of the United States of America:
~ the fun-loving, immigrant-hating, to hell with the actual Constitution MAGAs/right centrists, or
~ the fact-loving, fascist-hating Anti-Trumpers/left centrists.
If the former, I'll be phoning it in from either "República Portuguesa" or "Reino de España" in 2025, at least those two countries are honest about their fascist proclivities.
Trump is certainly going to be the “Republican “ candidate. He will win the primary, but even if he didn’t actually win, Republicans know that he would mount a behemoth third-Party bid and annihilate whomever they might choose. He will be on their ticket. Trump and his machine are preparing to make our 2024 election a living hell. There will be cheating, there will be boxes of votes burned by the millions, there will be violence at voting locations , it will make January 6 look like a school picnic. Buckle up. Will be wild.
The RNC is the only potential barrier to a Trump nomination. If they can convince enough "important" people to dump Trump as a means of virtually guaranteeing a Republican presidency, the levers of power could shift.
Desantis is absolutely correct through and through .People are not going to buy Trump's complaints when he loses to Joe Biden again in 2024 as people did not buy it in 2020 when he lost to Joe Biden. The evidence that people are not going to buy it is that when he lost in 2020, he went to court about 60 times, and he was turned down some 60 times. When the time came for him to vacate the White House for Joe Biden, he left . Majority of Americans believe that Joe Biden was legitimately elected in 2020 and majority of the people will believe that Joe Biden is legitimately elected again in 2024 when he [Joe Biden] WINS again
Spot on, Chris. Exactly my feelings since Trump put his hat in the ring and it’s all gone downhill from that point on. We would all be letting a big sigh out and have a huge party, if Trump was not the nominee. However, don’t see any which way that that occurs. Whatever happens, this country is going over the cliff, we will be in our darkest days ever. Very sad, indeed.
Agree, unfortunately, Trump will never accept a negative verdict on anything. He'll push until his last breathe. And as long as he breaths....people(lots of them) will follow. Its just so sad to watch....

There's your quandary!

And you know he'll do this when he loses next November to Biden. This time when the dimwits come to DC, they should be met with machine guns.
I wonder how things would be different now if the J6 mob had actually reached some of the legislators and either injured or killed some of them. Would Trump already be in jail, or would we still be in the same place we are now?
I know what I'd like the answer to be, and I'm at the same time afraid of what the answer would be.

I have little doubt that Trump will indeed launch an investigation of the Capitol Police.
I completely agree Chris.

America is in for a very dark time.

If your state has a closed primary then change your registration to Republican and vote for Nikki Haley.

Yes, there is NO EVIDENCE that E2020 was stolen FROM Trump. But, and I hate to harp, there is a good deal of evidence that various thumbs were on the E2020 scales FOR Trump and his GOP cohorts.
