"you really are counting on a President Harris, because the idea that he would make it until 86 years old is not something that I think is likely.”
And what exactly is wrong with a President Harris? A black female president may be just what this country needs to move ahead of seeing white men in constant charge of things.
I hope Joe Biden lives to enjoy retirement after another term in office; however, the thought of a President Harris is nowhere near as troubling as having Donald Trump win another term and then having whomever he chooses as his vice-president assuming office. President Kari Lake? President Sarah Sanders? President Kristi Noem? No, thank you.
President Harris is better than any of Trump's possible choices.
Trump’s diet, exercise and general condition have to concern everyone. He is incapable of uttering a single thought intelligibly and seems demented now. He could keel over at any minute. Even a relatively young pol, like De Santis or Haley could fall down a flight of stairs or die of a previously undiagnosed heart ailment. Death awaits us all.
What is your issue with Kamala Harris? She has strong experience, has traveled around the world on foreign policy on behalf of this administration. She has shown herself well-versed in domestic policies as well. She will lead us, should that be required. Let the Republicans spout whatever they like. Do you or they really think Donald Trump is more physically and emotionally fit to be President than Biden? He talks about naming MTG as his VP. Or Kari Lake. Why don't you raise those questions? Rather than jumping on the anti-Harris bandwagon, why don't you talk about her many strengths? This is a press and media issue, because you have made it one. This is a fight for our nation. We need to get on the team. There are many young leaders emerging across the country for the Democrats, and they will be ready for the future. Harris is only one of the first. In the meantime, I'm with Joe.
You write that "...would [Harris] be a danger to America if she was thrust into the top job?". How on earth do you in good conscience arrived at such a wild postulation as to question her leadership intentions towards her country?
I have followed your analysis and interventions since your days at CNN, and even more so here. Despite the publicly available evidence (both as businessman and as President during his tenure) about Donald Trump as one individual who poses a clear and present danger to decent conduct and to democratic ideals as we broadly understand and share these, I don't recall you characterising him in such a condescending manner or language.
Extremely biased speculation-as-journalistic analysis struggles to mask hidden agendas. In this case, no so much.
Trust me, I will continue to follow and read your work nonetheless.
“American politics is dominated by old men and that needs to change,” you write. For godsakes, it WILL change! It will change in 2028. That’s FIVE YEARS from now. Can we have a little patience?
I think that we are over hyping Biden’s pending “death sentence” and forgetting that Trump, who is likely going to be his opponent will be 77 in 2 months and lives on McDonalds cheeseburgers! Let’s try to stay focused and compare apples to apples!
An important issue that I'm glad you have raised. It's hard to avoid the impression of a thick fog of unreality blanketing all politics right now, with wishful, emotionally based thinking and absurdities dominating. Of course, you could say that's always been true, but it just seems more so at the moment. Maybe that's why the focused and uncluttered Jan 6 committee hearings seemed so much like a bright light in the darkness.
Now ... I appreciate that this is a nerdy response ... but to quote Popeye ... "I y'am what I y'am." Don't confuse an unconditional expectation with a conditional expectation. According to the actuarial tables used by the Social Security Administration, conditional on being a male born on 11/20/42, Joe Biden's life expectancy is 8.6 years -- or to 89 years of age. Now ... this hardly invalidates your argument because (1) it is an expected value not a guaranteed value, and (2) Incapacitation is as big a concern as death. But ... you still want to use the right number ...
Is age an issue? Certainly. But cherry picking stats to make your argument is disingenuous at best. The avg. life expectancy of 73.2 years is for all males. The avg. life expectancy for non-hispanic white males is 76.4. (same article you linked). Why chose one over the other?
Lets go a bit further, though. The life expectancy for a male in the Top 1 Percent of Income is 87.3 years (http://www.equality-of-opportunity.org/health/). Seems like money may not buy happiness, but it can certainly by you about a decade. Now isn't that a stat worth talking more about?
Have you watched any of "The Diplomat" on Netflix? The whole frame of the show is an aging president needing to dump his female VP, who's described as vain and incompetent, in favor of another woman, Keri Russell's character. My point -- Biden age issue is so big that it's shaping Hollywood content...

Nikki Haley wanted to prove she is just as assholic as the boyz...
...but then Southern "Christians" seem to believe they are directly connected to the mind of God...
...ergo, she KNOWS Uncle Joe will be dead in five years.
The voice of God to Nikki's ears proves once again that GOP political hacks will spare no effort to deep dive into the worst slime.

As a mathematics work-arounder with ADD in my youth, I came to love statistics in grad school.
Thanks for offering the "Age now/expected age of death stat."
Plus Uncle Joe eats well compared to the Sessionist-in-Chief pounding two Double Quarter Pounders.
A full quote is needed here:

Well, then. This was quite a headline to read first thing in the morning.
