Chris, estimate how much consultants and pollsters and fund raisers etc have been paid to date by the DeSantis campaign and the PAC that certainly has well paid key players. Those folks are all still financial winners; just bet on making him what he cannot be; or maybe they knew that and took the money anyway

Many of your readers doubted early whether GRD would be appealing to a general audience outside of Florida, and they appear to be correct. Further, it adds some context to his latest gubernatorial victory in Florida - his large victory there was less to do with GRD, and more about the circumstances and the weak opponent.

While the ‘fat’ lady is not singing yet, it sounds like she is warming up her voice. . .

What is equally as newsworthy is that Swarmy Rice-a-Roni is in second place.

Wait until the MAGAs realize that Smarmy is not White...but then neither is White Supremacist, Proud Boy leader, Tarrio, isn't either.

Seems like White Supremacists are actually equally opportunists.

Solid analysis , Chris. Some pundits talk about how others have bounced back after dips in polling, but those candidates had retail politics skills, and DeSantis has demonstrated that he lacks those. Gov Sununu is correct is saying that only if the race narrows can someone beat Trump. My gut sense and the trend lines tell me Haley is the one with the best potential . Christie serves a purpose in calling out Trump's numerous flaws. DeSantis and the rest are accomplishing nothing at this point other than helping Trump.

Chris, other than woke this woke that, what does he stand for? He wants trump voters but can’t out trump , trump.

His only option is to go after the orange one but he is reluctant to do this.

The other numbers tell me that people are starting to have some second thoughts on trump’s electability in the general.

Am I wrong?

Great article, as always.

Is there any good recent poll that looks at Republican's 2nd choices?

I wonder what percentage of Republicans do not have Trump as one of their top 2 choices, and which of the other candidates polls the highest when top 2 choices are considered (and who they are getting those votes from).

This may be informative for thinking about non-Trump coalitions.

Prior to even Trump announcing his candidacy, all eyes were on DeSantis as the alternate. Some said DeSantis would make the race competitive, some said he would be worse than Trump and others liked the looks of DeSantis as an alternative to Trump. However, DeSantis failed to launch and not really surprised. He just doesn’t have the “it” factor, no clear message, not relatable, woke this, woke that, etc., etc.. Thanks for this, Chris.
