If Jordan DOES get the Speakership (and for the record, I think that he will, because they're all terrified of Hannity and Fox News), how far to the right do you think that he will be? I can envision all sorts of disaster scenarios, including no budget, a government shutdown that lasts through and past the next election, you name it.
I can't deal with the real life questions that are popping in my head. So I am going to steal a question from the Loyal Littles Podcast's Fun and Dumb questions. If you could squirt a condiment out of your finger, what would it be?
Isn't the business of Congress to work together? Does the inability come from the voters themselves who are no longer willing to work together as a community. So my insight would be that the loss of community is being felt all the way up the ladder.
Are you aware of any even remotely close analogues to what's happening in the House? I mean, I know we don't have members of Congress caning each other (yet). But has there ever been such a breakdown in basic functioning of the institution?
Do you think it is a good idea for the collapse of expanding McHenry’s duties/authority? Someone has to lead the GOP house, this can’t go on forever without having a speaker?
What is your view on Trump pushing the line with his posts directed at judges/staff in regards to the gag order? What should the punishment be? I know he is a former president and a current presidential candidate, but he ia not in office and a civilian like any one of us.
Hey Chris, Can you give us a historical perspective on how long the vote for Speaker has been partisan? Can you explain why "coalition government" is viewed as the most terrible idea ever? Can we not have shared goals of governance? Please, make it make sense!!
Chris - Have you seen any Early Voting data from my Commonwealth of Virginia indicating any impacts yet upon Virginia voters from the now 15-day+ House Speaker vacancy & paralysis of the US Congress that has been self-inflicted by the GOP/Republican House majority? I'm especially interested in stats from areas with concentrations of Active Duty military, federal employees and contractors without contract protection in northern VA Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria, Prince William and Stafford counties and the Hampton Roads area. If so, please share with us. I asked you a separate question under my twitter handle @salions about how the Powers That Be behind Reps. Jordan, Perry and House Freedom Caucus members, such as right wing media, are hiding Congressional Republicans' continuing self-flagellation and Congressional paralysis from GOP base voters. Thanks in advance.
I imagine you have friends all along the political spectrum. Are any of them conspiracy theorists? I have one--and it's not easy to discuss politics with him. One of his beliefs is that the Space Force has collected all the evidence of the 2020 election fraud, and it's going to come out at Trump's trial on the election interference charges to exonerate him. I have so many questions about this "theory", but I find it hard to believe that a guy who can't walk around Mar-A-Lago without discussing classified secrets with his janitor would be able to keep this evidence under wraps for nearly 3 years. At one point, Trump was supposedly going to have a press conference to reveal the evidence of election fraud, but then his lawyers cancelled it. Let's just say I'm skeptical.
The Nixon chapter of Power Players includes several references to the "Washington Nationals," even though the team in DC at the time was the Senators. Blame your Nats fan brain or an overzealous editor?
Why is there such a strong tendency to look at national polls when assessing the state of the Presidential race as opposed to FiveThirtyEight-style state-by-state models? Does national polling really tell us THAT much when we know that these races tend to come down to a handful of states that we can usually name in advance (Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, etc.)?
In honor of Halloween coming...which event in October (so far) is most likely to haunt the Republicans going into the 2024 Election a year from now: Trump bashing Israel, or far-right Jim Jordan getting close to speakership, or the failure of Republican moderates to show any sign of backbone? Anything you think might haunt the Dems?
Regarding Trump’s recent comment that he would be willing to go to jail to save democracy... I have thought for awhile that he is trying to get thrown in jail to fire up his base and cash in on more donations. I also believe he thinks he will lose the election and being in jail during part of the campaign will be a handy excuse... since it just couldn’t possibly be that he’s a terrible candidate. Thoughts?
Regarding the gag order imposed by Judge Chutkan, Trump says he will appeal. How intermediate levels are there before an appeal would get to SCOTUS? Can Trump request SCOTUS fast-track this appeal to their docket? The gag order seems reasonably specific, and should not impede Trump's campaigning, but Trump rarely talks policy points at his rallies. What are the chances an appeals court strikes down the gag order? And, if they don't, does the failure to eliminate the gag order provide a basis for appealing a guilty verdict in the DC Case?
The barking yam doesn't have a legal leg to stand on. He's out on bail that bail has conditions. The judge just added another. SCOTUS wont touch the case. When convicted he can appeal, but a gag order is one of the tools the judge has as that their disposal.

It’s clear that Youngkin has aspirations towards higher office. Do you see him being a major player at some point in the future?
