There could be video footage of Trump handing the nuclear launch codes over to Putin while he simultaneously launches a nuclear attack on Great Britain and he wouldn't lose a single supporter. NOT. ONE....................
Chris, well said. I 100% agree with you and have said this from the beginning. It’s Trumps nomination to lose and shame on the GOP for not unloading him back in 2015. Here we are 8 years later and he will be the nominee once again. I just pray that Biden pulls this off, as we will be in store for many many dark days. As it is, we are not, as a country, in good shape and this is the tip of the iceberg. Although, Trump losing the election won’t be good for the country, either. There will be more violence than we can imagine, IMO. The whole rigging of another election, etc. I do not understand how this can even be happening, again.
Elaine don't get sucked into what some talking a d writing heads are saying about Trump. Trump may win his party's nomination but can't win the General Election. It certainly will be very good for the Country WHEN Trump loses in 2024. The country will be very ready for whatever violence he plans to unleash then.
Dr. Ibrahim, I absolutely LOVE your endless optimism! As my Jewish friends would say “From your lips to God’s ears!”
I don’t know that I can fully agree with your optimism, though, especially this far out from the election, but I do think that what attracts his Cult Members to him does not particularly work with the independent or centrist voters, and there are a LOT of them! The indictments DO matter to them, and they respond negatively to them, and given that he will be in the middle (or end) of a number of trials come November 2024, that could indeed mortally wound his general election prospects.
And if the media, Chris included, keep on hoisting that “Biden is old” canard, they will allow Trump to potentially sneak a win by less than 45K votes nationwide. Again.
It’s just a truly frightening situation. That said, stick with your optimism, Dr.!
You are right to be nervous. Anyone who is sanguine about Joe's re-election chances is not paying attention to the data or the environment. Trump ( or any GOP nominee) has certain states locked up; so do the Ds. It's all about the swing states , and the margins are tight in each one. Joe's record is very strong, but many are unaware of his accomplishments or view them as outweighed by his liabilities. It is likely to be a razor thin election, and as crazy as it seems to us, it is evident that Trump has a real chance of winning .
It’s absolutely horrifying to think that Trump has a chance to be reelected. I do not think the country can survive this, it will be the end of democracy. Where will any guardrails be? He will be installing his own people and they will follow what he says. OMG, I just can’t even imagine how bad this could be. I do not understand these deplorables. How can people think this is good, how they can this is good for the country. We are in store for a world of hurt, if Trump is elected.
You could be right. I just remember in 2020, the abundance of many big names in the party who didn’t show for the platform-less convention. And this was pre-J6.
This party has to figure out how to be both pro-Russia and pro-Israel. It can't be both. And when Trump gives way to the Russia side, as he has already begun to do, this whole party is going to have to face some reality. He loves Russia, Russia is Iran's closest ally.
The twice impeached con artist loves Putin, loves China and Hezbollah. Pathetic. I wonder why we are even discussing him (Trump) today when more important events are happening in the country and around the world. The crisis in the Middle East readily comes to mind and the way our President is efficiently handling it should be a something we should all be chewing instead of Trump Trump Trump and Trump. The sitting President has taken a lot of very consequential actions against the brutality of Terrorists Hamas and warned Hezbollah (Trump's friends) not to intervene. We should all be proud of President Joe Biden for these decisions and actions. Same as we were proud of him regarding the way he handled the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Remember this same Trump described Putin as being a 'genius' then. It's time to be fair and give credit when and where one is due and not hang on Biden's age people!
So Senator Steppin' Fetchit Scott's money people have come to reality for their candidate will be steppin' aside with the reality that ReTrumplican'ts only want their "Negros" to know their place...as lawn jockies.
Chris, I took your advice from Friday's mailbag and attended one of Trump's rallies in Iowa today. As you said, it really was "a fascinating window into what Trump supporters see in him." Nothing I saw surprised me, but I guess I am a little terrified at just how committed his supporters are to the cult. I heard so much nonsense today that I feel like Trump and all of his supporters are living in a different world than the rest of us. Perhaps the most ridiculous thing that Trump said was this: "I have to win the election so that I can save our democracy." Yes, he really said that. And he was rewarded with a standing ovation. I think I only clapped twice today. The first time was when they recognized the veterans in the audience before Trump came out. Apparently, these veterans don't realize that Trump thinks that they are "suckers" and "losers". The second time I clapped was when Trump was done. I was so glad that the 90-minute word salad was over! Then I came home and poured myself a much-needed beer.
Can you slow down just a tad? Within 49 minutes, you published two articles worthy of setting off two separate panic attacks, namely:
2:12 pm "Jim Jordan might just win this thing"
3:01pm "Reason #356 Donald Trump is going to be the GOP nominee"
Readers' clonazepam barely had the chance to kick in between the first and second article...
We need to get some sleep tonight before the House forces a vote on the floor of Congress, to elect Jim Jordan. I'll look forward to what you have to say about that tomorrow.
You're depressingly on point, Chris. I think the only thing that keeps Trump from being the GOP nominee would be the end result of a diet of fast food and ketchup.

I so want to believe this but never thought it would happen in 2016, so a bit nervous. I will be happy when the election is called...Biden!

Exactly right
My issue with this analysis is, yes, the GOP primary rules rest on “winner takes all,” even if only a plurality of a state’s vote.
In a normal primary, the also-rans and their supporters then rally around the delegate leader and anoint the nominee at the convention.
I predict that will not happen this time, using some of your argument that Trump is a known quantity.
The non-Trump lane is wide, filled with subcompact cars, if you will, ready to push Trump off the road.
When they coalesce in opposition, they will damage him, mortally, IMO.
Trump may survive to nomination, your absolute point, but his presidential candidacy is doomed. And we haven’t even touched the legal
peril he’s in.
I can't see any of them coalescing against him. They're all terrified of him.
The spineless cretins will never step away from their uberfuhrer.
You could be right. I just remember in 2020, the abundance of many big names in the party who didn’t show for the platform-less convention. And this was pre-J6.
It's crazy that no one who actually matters has dropped out yet. Mike Pence, we all saw your campaign filing, wyd.
As Chris has said, the Fifth Avenue quote is the most honest thing Trump has ever said.
Agree, Sam. But I am very skeptical that thinning the herd changes much. Feels to me like this is Trump in a runaway.
Agreed, Trump wrapped up the nod the second he got indicted.
I just don't get why these people are wasting their time on a fruitless exercise. Especially Pence, drowning in debt.

We are at the point of beating a dead horse (or elephant).
They watch him rant and feel empathy for him because he is so persecuted, in their eyes.
He might have 30-40% of the republican electorate but that will not get him back in the WH.
The republican clown show has really derailed.
Biden might be old and a gaffe machine but he is a real American counter to whatever the orange one is.
The republicans have a way of making democrats president (when they ought nought to be).
So Senator Steppin' Fetchit Scott's money people have come to reality for their candidate will be steppin' aside with the reality that ReTrumplican'ts only want their "Negros" to know their place...as lawn jockies.
Hillary Clinton was right -- his followers have been brainwashed and are in a cult..

The Republican Party in its current incarnation is anything but normal and I don’t see any semblance of change on the horizon.

Personality cult. He gives meaning and purpose to their lives. A tangible object of worship.
Republicans will wake up when Trump loses in 2024 again
Love the GIF! Do you ever laugh while writing your essays?
Probably only to keep from crying?
It’s definitely over ...
