Shortly after JD Vance was named Donald Trump’s vice presidential pick, a comment he made in 2021 in an interview with Tucker Carlson became national (and international) news.
He referred to then VP Kamala Harris as one of the “childless cat ladies” running the country, adding: '“If you look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, AOC, the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children.”
Democrats went crazy — insisting that Vance was deeply out of touch, and that childless cat ladies would deliver the election to Harris. That fervor hit its apogee when Taylor Swift endorsed Harris via Instagram with a reference to herself as a “childless cat lady.”
Harris, as you may know, did not win the election. But how did she do among childless cat ladies?
We don’t have that exact data but we have something close — a massive Associated Press survey of 120,000 voters on whether they own a dog or cat or both (or neither) and who they voted for.
Here’s the chart on women:
And here’s men:
So, Harris’ strongest voting group was women with cats (+19). And Donald Trump’s was men with dogs (+19).
Draw your own purrfect conclusions. But don’t be too ruff on either candidate.
