Me too!! She would have been a great president. I was also looking forward to Tim and family living in the Naval Observatory. Gee, what a different world it would have been….
There is no way to have a democracy if education continues to be downgraded. The authoritarians depend on poorly educated citizens and the GOP has been working on making our schools inferior for decades.
There is no way to have a democracy if higher education continues to be captured by liberal zealots. Focusing more on DEI and activism than education, churning out worthless degrees and mountains of debt.
The Democrat party relies on the promotion of identity politics as worthwhile and devaluing work and accomplishment to shore up their voter base.
I agree! There is a huge gap in history in particular! In the past century we had two world wars, Korean War, Vietnam Name, a president resigned, a president ass The Beatles, Hippies so much. I know when I was a teen I knew a lot of history of the early part of the century and my time. I would bet most teens never watch the news , have no idea what happened before they were born etc. That Texas School Book Company that Prints books for most schools in this country has been known to change historical facts especially surrounding the Civil War. Lying to our children is Evil.
Textbooks are tailored to meet the needs/requirements set up in or by the legislatures of each state.
In Texas, for instance, the legislature sets the TEKS for every single course taught from K-12. Those TEKS - Texas Essentail Knowledge and Skills - have to be followed by all teachers. The real bending of the facts, ie rewriting of the historical events, happens in committee work and then voted on in the legislature. After that, those TEKS are inserted into the textbooks that then get shopped to each district for possible adoption. After, people like me, sit on a district-led committee to determine which of the pre-approved textbooks, that were created specifically to align w the legislature's TEKS, should be put forth for adoption. SO many times, this is picking the lesser of 2 evils......literally riddled w/factual inaccuracies. You end up getting a textbook w/obvious shortcomings but ones you, inevitably, just have to live w/as a teacher.
This was a long way to say - while the companies are distorting historical facts/events - it's driven by the pursuit of the dollar. And it's typically at the behest of our elected officials. Which I'm sure you are absolutely shocked to learn!
You are 100% - lying to our children is evil and does us no good.
It's the whole correlation/causation question. As you noted, it's interesting but doesn't tell you much. Women tend toward Democrats and Men tend toward Republicans. But, something fun & hopefully less controversial for a Friday. Happy weekend!
Must have been a slow news day. Here’s what I’ve been wondering the past two weeks - where is JD Vance? I’ve not heard a word about him, or from him. Curious minds (at least this one) wonders why he isn’t at trump’s side, having input or a voice on cabinet nominees, and a plethora of other matters. Seems like Musk has completely supplanted him.
I completely understand that there were multiple strong factors that influenced this election. But every single bit of data I see indicates that men in this country simply can not vote en masse for a woman. It's infuriating. (All apologies to the many men on this site who clearly voted for a woman.)
Plus she was a widely unpopular vice president; plus she didn’t accomplish anything as VP and the only time her name was mentioned was tying her to the border; plus she wasn’t voted on but installed.
And she was a bad candidate, dodged interviews for a month and then when given a softball of what she would do differently she said “Nothing comes to mind”
But I guess if you view everything as identity politics your answer will only focus on identity
I find it rich that you blame Democrats for the preponderance of “identity politics”. What has Trump made his ENTIRE political career virtually solely about? Us vs them. They’re “the other”. And clearly, it worked.
If US means American citizens vs non-American citizens, then you are right. I don't believe (and I could be wrong) that Trump had any policy tied to identity other than US citizen.
But do you really don't think Democrats are over fixated on identity? A lot of Democrat strategists said they believe they do as well.
You conveniently forget to answer my question, I guess you just either agree with my statement, or you don't have any thoughts on it?
He didn't demonize all Democrats, the "enemies from within" comment that I remember is with Maria Bartiromo where they were talking about violence on election day. Trump was vague on that, but talked about "Radical Leftists" which isn't talking about all Democrats. And then he called Pelosi and a couple other Democrats evil. That might be mean, but it's not calling Democrats evil. If you have another instance share it. But he seems to always speaking to a sub section of Democrats when he name calls.
Meanwhile Biden called Trump voters garbage. Which means ~70 million people. It seems your memory isn't so much selective as it is bad,
I guess we will agree to disagree. Even if you believe all the statements you provided about VP Harris (I don't), I still don't comprehend how a convicted felon and admitted thief of national secrets is a reasonable choice by comparison. It wasn't about identity for me.
This gets back to what I think was a real problem for many Democrats - they were unable to say why we should vote for Harris without talking about Trump. The conversation always turns back to Trump.
We can disagree on the conclusion, but I wasn't putting forth any false facts. Polling had her as a deeply unpopular VP before she was installed as the candidate. She wasn't given any nation-wide visible tasks from Biden, except when dealing with immigration. She did say "Nothing comes to mind" instead of establishing how she was different than the President with a 38% approval rating.
As for Trump. The NYC charges were a blatant political attack, numerous Democrats (high profile and low profile) came out and said "if his name wasn't Trump he wouldn't have brought the cases). The classified document case was an actual case, but that didn't get heard.
Honestly, I think the obviously fake NYC cases made a lot of people believe that the other cases had no merit as well (which is incorrect Georgia, classified docs, and Jan 6th were all serious cases).
So people discounted that and you have one person that was already President and had a great economy (pre-pandemic) and generally peaceful world vs someone associated with an economy that food, housing, and credit card interest was through the roof with multiple wars that seem to be dragging on (Ukraine / Israel). If that's how you are viewing things, Trump would get the nod, if you vote for personality I see people voting Harris.
Pete the border czar is a very poor title Her job was to go to the Central American triangle and work with them on the immigration issue She had absolutely nothing to do with the border itself
The actual statistics on the economy showed them about equal Biden brought a huge amount of new manufacturing and new jobs in that sector. He got the infrastructure act passed which benefitted Republican states more than Democratic states Since Covid the US economy is the best performing one Including Covid to realistically look at job growth Biden had better growth than Trump
Trump had double the deficits Biden did
Yes the pocketbooks were the number one issue and I understand that But that is only part
The president has very little control over the economy The Fed has a lot and the chairman was appointed by Trump
This is not to knock Trump and promote Biden Just the facts
On wars the Middle east has been going on for close to 3K years The only president who had any real impact was Carter when he helped to negotiate the Camp David accords Even George W said on the Middle East I have low expectations That way they are met
As far as Ukraine it depends on your point of view Do you (generic) consider Putin a threat We didn't invade Ukraine Russia did
I said "She wasn't given any nation-wide visible tasks from Biden, except when dealing with immigration". But a lot of people believed Border Czar, mainly because the news at the time called her "Border Czar" and the White House didn't tell them they were wrong. They issued corrections months later, but no one sees corrections.
It's true what you said that pocketbooks (inflation) was the number one issue. The President doesn't affect the economy much, but they can affect inflation. At the time it happened, despite warnings from Republicans and even former President Obama’s own economic advisor Larry Summers that the American Rescue Plan would trigger inflation Biden pushed that through and we got record inflation. So it's not hindsight about the inflation.
Hamas killing/kidnapping a couple thousand Israelies is not normal part of the conflict in the region. And Biden policy of giving money back to Iran and empowering them most likely gave Hamas the funding and support from Iran to allow the attack.
And Russia only seems to invade the Ukraine when Joe Biden is in the Whitehouse as President or Vice President. Russia invades Ukraine when they believe the US to have weak leaders.
So, we didn't do the invading, but we didn't do anything to put a stop to it. All we are doing in the Ukraine is making sure our defense contractors stay rich and making sure more Russians and Ukrainians die.
Those were deeper dives but most Americans feel they had a more peaceful world and was doing better monetarily under Trump and I really do think it's that simple.
Put forth a competent woman and you would see otherwise. Funny part is that most women who keep saying this don’t turn out to support Republican women. They just want support for the women on their side.
And Hillary Clinton had a lot of men voting for her. So got so many more votes than Trump and they weren’t all women. She would have won easy, but we don’t go by popular vote.
I would happily vote for a Republican woman. I would not support Nikki Haley or Susan Collins. I would seriously consider supporting Liz Cheney or Lisa Murkowski. It is the candidate, not the party. And if folks need to support someone in their party, why did Hillary Clinton with far more experience and knowledge get shoved aside for President Obama? Both were democrats. I truly believe there is an inherent bias against women. The only point I do agree with is that the bias isn't limited to just men.
There are some people that won't vote for a candidate because they are a woman, there are also some people that will vote for a candidate just because they are a woman.
And if you are intent on seeing sexism in the result of an action, that's a boogeyman you won't catch. Did Obama get it over Hillary because people didn't want to vote for a woman? Or was it because the Clinton name had some tarnish on it and Obama was a fresh and vibrant face? It's impossible to know for sure. But Hillary got 66 million votes in 2016. Makes me believe people were fine voting for a woman.
Ugh. It wasn't because she was a woman. I don't know why Dems can't see that she just flat-out sucked as a candidate. People wanted to know what she would actually do as president, not what celebrities she hung out with. She just couldn't give interviews that weren't carefully controlled and apparently couldn't make decisions under pressure.
I think you are succumbing to confirmation bias. I am sure what you are saying is true for you. Lots of data suggests that for many voters, sex was a factor. As Pete suggests correctly, however, it is a boogeyman that will never be proven. To me, it is a clear factor.
Check out WhiteChalkCrime.com and listen to teacher whistleblowers trying to do something about this! They can teach you what needs to be done. Then run for school boards on a save democracy platform. We have corrupt schools because good people don’t run for school boards, plain and simple. And now they’re the only thing we could seize and flood with democracy. So go for it and do it on blocks to control each board.
Karen my mother and aunt were both teachers and neither got abused or terrorized I know a lot of other teachers who would tell you the same
You don't fix the country by banning books or changing history I once heard a pentecostal preacher say As far as prayer in school my mama prayed with me before I went to school Very few school I know of force students to read books Those that do leave parents the option of their children not reading that book
We would fix a lot more if we could get parents actually participate in their education
What would happen if school libraries and teachers had a list of students who parents should be checked with
No the real threat to democracy is the 15-20% of parents who are trying to force their views on the other 15-20%
By the way a lot of those "concerned" parents have been voted off boards
Of course everyone isn’t abused and every school isn’t corrupt but enough are and NONE should be. That they weren’t doesn’t mean you should ignore the teachers who have been or dismiss what this did to our society.
I missed the valid statistics comment. I started an organization for abused teachers in 2002. Over 2200 people joined - mostly teachers - and some of their stories are at EndTeacherAbuse.org. The book Breaking the Silence by Drs Joseph and Jo Blase shows research on teacher abuse. Rosalyn Schnall’s book detailing her research on teacher abuse - When Teachers Talk is another. A very interesting statistic is: over 150 people joined each year until I wrote a book that had Trump ax a con man in title. I get a handful each year now. It appears that most of these teachers went MAGA because our government failed us. They loved what I was doing but then loved Trump more because he gets somewhere and I don’t. Just think we might have won these people disgusted with the way our schools are to our side. They know there’s no democracy in our schools or taught in our schools so why not go with autocracy?
Keep in mind that issues like this are more like the priest abuse issue or what if anything Harvey Weinstein did. When predators have too much power what they do remains hidden until someone investigates and forces change. That’s what I’m trying to get started. It hasn’t happened because they brilliantly made teachers and their unions behave in ways that made us quite disrespected. People blame teachers for what they made teachers do. My objective has been to get an investigation going. I promise you the statistics will be spellbinding.
Thanks for caring. Basically they do exactly what Trump does - demand loyalty to their acts even if they harm children or primary you - for teachers it’s fire you. Listen to the teachers at WhiteChalkCrime.com. It isn’t every school but way too many. Abraham Lincoln warned that the way of the school room one generation would be the way of the government in the next. It truly is! A
If you go to that site you’ll find my contact information. Email me and I’ll send you a pdf of my book that’s a memoir that goes into exactly what they’re doing.
I'm a woman, own a dog, and voted for Harris. I don't care if I owned a guinea pig, or whatever, it would remain a vote for Harris.
So much for dogs. Cats rule anytime, no matter what the polls say. Just ask a cat.
Cats were worshipped as gods in ancient Egypt. They have never forgotten this.
And never will! They see into your soul, and being careful does not work! Happy holidays! Love our cats.
I like both! Voted for Harris

Great question! I was thinking that earlier as well. He has been completely kicked to the curb as of late.

But every single bit of data I see indicates that men in this country simply can not vote en masse for a woman. It's infuriating. (All apologies to the many men on this site who clearly voted for a woman.)
I think it hurt that the woman in question was a woman of color; plus she was in a mixed marriage to a Jewish man.
Plus she was a widely unpopular vice president; plus she didn’t accomplish anything as VP and the only time her name was mentioned was tying her to the border; plus she wasn’t voted on but installed.
