The tide is shifting. There is too much evidence to make a case that the tide is not shifting. We must all work to put country over party and normalcy over facism.

Chris, you make valid and smart points. Here is another one. Rs have a right wing fringe candidate running for Gov named Mark Robinson, and he is tanking in the polls. He will likely hurt the ticket up and down on the ballot. NC has a lot of Rs who are "normies" : ie., people who lean right but aren't MAGA. Neither Robinson nor Trump motivate these folks to show up and vote . Some of them will even do the right thing and vote D. NC is most definitely in play.

Agreed. Robinson is a horrible person, horrible candidate, and a big drag on the Republican ticket. He's a blatant misogynist and will help motivate women in NC to vote Dem, if they did not have reason enough already.

Well glory be!

Might need some more sweet tea and North Carolina BBQ soon!

She's still the underdog. I'll keep my 2016 results in a locket on my dresser.

Drumpf can never be counted out. Just like a tick, you think you have it completely crushed and dead and then the bugger scurries away (those of us in the country know what I'm talking bout).

But if NC is in play, well, I'm just gonna jump for joy.

Have a great day DonOLD. Don't get in any more fights at cemeteries. BTW, WTF were they thinking was gonna happen when they let him in?

I hope this bodes well for the Democrat to win NC Governor too!

I am encouraging all of my neighbors here in NC to vote Blue! Many were sitting the fence but now there is a good reason to show up and vote!

The way this race has changed since Biden dropped out should be a huge reality check for Biden and totally mitigate any “hard” feelings he has left over being “forced” to drop out of the race.

agreed. He has been so darn quiet, and that is good for her. I could never get the abject hatred for a man who did so much for so many for so long. When I saw the Brandon stickers showing up on gas pumps, I knew he was toast. So I'm glad he has gone radio silent for the most part. Not fair, not right, but really necessary at this point.

The “hard feelings” may be a production of the media. I will bet that Biden is relieved.

He sure should be!

But I’m still amazed that he had decided to run for a second term.

What was he and what were his advisors thinking?!

I told you so, I told you so, I told you so.

Chris, since so much of reporting involves video now, you should also have your students do "The Morning" or your youtube videos so they can get practice

So what you are telling me is that after decades of living in South Carolina, my vote might actually count this year???

Oh, as a Californian in Los Angeles, don’t get me started on whose vote counts and whose doesn’t!!

Robinson, the holocaust denying MAGA loon the GOP was foolish enough to nominate for Gov, is a gift from the normie Gods. His toxic presence on the ballot will motivate A LOT of independent voters... and sane Republicans...to get out and vote. Turnout will be huge. And NC will go for KH.

Although the latest polling is trending toward Harris, in 2020 Trump overperformed his polling by about 2% in NC, meaning Harris needs a 4-5% lead to be outside the margin of error.

True enough. It’s not “lean Democratic” yet, so there’s *much* more to be done.

As others have rightly pointed out, Mark Robinson is a *horrible* candidate and is no doubt pulling the Rs numbers down.

You’ve got to be an amazing salesperson to sell the product the current admin has to offer. Being that the salesperson to close the deal refuses to talks makes it that much harder.

Keep up, @dutchmaga!

CNN announced *yesterday* that Harris and Walz will be jointly interviewed by Dana Bash, so you can drop your lame argument RE “hiding from the press”.

Frankly, given the torrent of absolutely batshit crazy stuff and clear cognitive decline of Trump when *he* gets in front of “the press”, maybe his campaign should consider that strategy…. 🤣

Fantastic!

Can’t wait to hear all these great answers as to why the county and the world is in such a mess!

Hope she or they also talk about how strong the border currently is and how much stronger it will be if they get in office (o wait she’s already there). Also maybe she can site a policy like No tax on Tips, I heard that great too…. O wait some other guy came up with that. Rats! Maybe we can hear how great the economy is and how affordable housing is and maybe just maybe how cheap gas and electric and everything else is! Just wait till she can get all these great policies in place, never mind these last few years (it was that brain dead JB) but really he’s great, a great president! Wow can’t wait to hear all this!

Oh rejoice we will Larry. How nice of the benevolent leader to grace us with her presence and finally do an interview. Also, the “cognitive decline” argument is peculiar to me, because when Pres. Biden was still in the race any mention of his cognitive function was met with such vitriol.

My sense is that polling hasn't been accurately reflecting the groundswell of support Harris is generating - from rally sizes, to volunteers, to new voter registrations, to cash donations. (Where's Nate Silver when you really need him?)

One caveat is that these activities are taking place in "solid-blue" states, so even if polls are picking this up, it doesn't matter in the bigger picture.

FWIW, I think Harris is generating support from these areas:

1) Democrats (duh)

2) Abortion-rights voters (regardless of party, and quite possibly ticket-splitters)

3) Trump-fatigue voters (including those concerned about his age and cognitive abilities)

None of this comes anywhere close to "landslide" territory, and as Chris continues to remind us (and keep us a bit more grounded), it's going to be a freaking close election. In the words of the immortal Bette David: "Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night".

Good Morning! I like the momentum that Harris (Kamalamentum, I think is the term?) is having, its absolutely amazing! But let's be honest here folks, a LOT of things can happen between now and November. I keep holding my breath, waiting for the shoe on the other foot to drop! Chris, two things, 1) What do you think about Jack Smith's (revised) indictment and do you think that it will hurt Trump in ANY WAY? 2) What do you think about Harris and Walz sitting for an interview with CNN? ((I'm sure you are already working on posts about both, just thought I would throw my questions to you now)

Well spoken if you still believe that election officials in the swing states (God, I hate that term!) will behave with the publics best interests at heart. Look at what's happening in Georgia and understand that this is happening, to some extent, in all the battleground states. No matter how the vote goes, violence is coming people! Be aware and be ready!
