SPEAKER 1
Welcome to the morning. It is Friday. It is June 7th. We made it to the end of another week. People, congratulations. High five. Okay. I have been thinking about... a lot this morning, the Trump veep stakes, because it appears to be heating up in that almost every major major media news
0:20
outlet wrote about it in the last 24 to 48 hours. And effectively, they all wrote the same thing, which is that Trump has narrowed down the number of people who are being considered to eight-ish, okay? And I think that list is Doug Burgum of North Dakota, J.D. Vance of Ohio, Marco Rubio of Florida,
0:42
Tim Scott of South Carolina, Tom Cotton of Arkansas, Elise Stefanik of New York, and Byron Donalds of Florida, as long as former Trump Health and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson. I don't really wanna talk about that. I wanna talk about a quote that was in Politico.

The Morning: 'People who are rich and have hot wives'

Inside Donald Trump's VP search.

Almost every major media outlet has, over the last 48 hours, published a piece on Donald Trump’s VP search.

There’s not all that much to these stories other than that Trump has “narrowed” his list to 8 people. Which isn’t super narrow!

But one quote — from POLITICO — stood out to me about Trump’s vice presidential process. And it’s this: “Trump likes people who are rich and have hot wives.”

I think that is deeply revealing about something we know is at the core of who Trump is: He wants people to “look” the part. And he mostly (only?) cares about surface traits.

I explain further in today’s edition of “The Morning.”

Discussion about this video

Do you think you could do a piece ranking the VP candidates from least to most scary if they were to become president? There are a few who instill genuine fear in terms of how they might approach the job, were it to fall on them.

So sad that Trump may pick a v p based on the looks of their spouse, but I guess nothing should be surprising about Trump at this point. Chris I agree the line you mentioned may be the most important factor in the decision about who may be a heartbeat from the presidency.

Elise the curmudgeon must be bumming out. All of that arse kissing..and morals compromising..for nothing.

Burgum is the likely pick off the list. It will not be a person of color or a woman, because the fervent Trump base, the racist and misogynist core, will not have it. It won’t be someone younger and better looking than Donald J Trump, because he doesn’t want to stand next to someone who will emphasize that Trump is a wrinkly old roué with bad hair. Burgum is a whitebread as Pence, his wife is better looking than Mother(although I cannot find her age!) and he is rich. Checks the boxes nicely.

I agree!!!

I’m sure part of the price for the veep job will be offering the wife up to Orange Nero, too. Good move by Tim Scott acquiring a sacrificial lamb.

😢 Elise.

“I moved on her actually. You know she was down on Palm Beach. I moved on her, and I failed. I'll admit it. I did try and *schtup* her, she was married."

Agree, Chris. He has always been obsessed with appearance, and especially the appearance of women. I wonder though, whether his ego, especially at this time, can handle a man who is richer and more successful than he is..

Hey Chris!, what iteration of Trump's story are we getting for Lunch and Dinner today? And for your graph/chat for tonight, can we please see a bar char or even a graph showING how the unemployment rate has fluctuated since 2016 and how each sub group of the population has done since then too. This metric (unemployment rate) would help decide who wins in November.

Lace, on an unrelated topic - who's decision was it for you to not discuss the impact the guilty verdicts on TTKS this week? The I enjoy your political takes in that forum....

As a loyal little since the ESPN radio days, I beg to differ. I know it's not often but when you do it's usually very well done and informative.

Doug Emhoff is hot. I think it will be JD Vance for no other reason than because I liked Hillbilly Elegy the movie without knowing any better the same way I liked The Apprentice without knowing any better. Or the ND Governor because he's got Lincoln's eyebrows.

This marks my first time ever reading, “Doug Emhoff is hot.” Trump will go with the eyebrows and say that he looks most like VP.
