Today is the big vote in the House to fund the government through September.
Because of the House GOP’s very narrow majority, Speaker Mike Johnson can afford to lose only two votes — assuming, as I assume, that no Democrats will vote for the funding bill.
And one is already gone: Kentucky Rep. Tom Massie.
President Donald Trump is working to ensure that’s the only defection within thje GOP ranks — using his favorite technique: Intimidation.
But wait, there’s more!
After Massie took to X to insist he is beyond threats, Trump senior political guy Chris LaCivita responded with, well, a straight-up threat:
Ugly? A little. Effective? If past is prologue, probably. Trump has shown throughout his decade atop the Republican party that he not only is willing to go after Republicans who cross him but also is often able to defeat them or drive them from office.
Massie may be an exception. We’ll see! But does some other House Republican want to step out of line and worry about their head getting chopped off (figuratively speaking)?
Today’s vote will tell that tale!
